On May 2nd, during our "Drunken Quarantine Karaoke" livestream for COVID-19 relief, Patreon backer John Hoban from Duluth, MN pledged $99.99 to hear Fang sing "The Touch" by Stan Bush. The song was listed at $10. Overwhelmed by his generosity, as well as the generosity of many others during the stream, we wanted to do something fun to surprise John. Jason Ashcraft and Fang worked in secret to put this track and video together, and we hope you enjoy it!

Saw Transformers in the theater. I had no idea what would happen, and was an uncontrollable sobbing mess for half of the movie. Not only with Optimus, but Wheeljack, Prowl, Ratchet, and my favorite, Ironhide. I still get a little choked up hearing this song. Banger of a cover.

Yeah I was one of those kids who cried when optimus died too. I'm kinda bummed they didn't do more seasons considering the popularity. But it only goes to figure after toei sold to the Koreans and then parents whined about optimus. It wasn't even an American cartoon anyway. Its a dubbed anime. Toei makes dragonball and one piece.

@Daniel Cafarelli technically yes for 3 episodes at the end of the show. But the original storyline had optimus staying dead. But there was massive fan and parent backlash when optimus died. Of course this also varies whether your referring to American transformers or Japanese transformers. It was altered and dubbed for America. Its technically an anime by toei, sourced out to Korea.

@Daniel Cafarelli not really. While the toys were enjoyable and in general cheap for kids. They broke easily. And once Hasbro got licensing to the cartoon. They divided all the season into videos, that were kinda expensive for the time. Vhs. And worse they forced you to but parts of seasons. Nickel and diming us to death. It wasn't an issue with storage. The tapes were literally a few eps. Usually 4. A vhs could hold almost 2 hours then. And then when they branched the toys out and lost part of the rights. You saw other companies making better, more durable versions. And they did all they could to chase that off in America. Lost world wide. Hasbro was tough on gi Joe toys also. Theres no angels in this story. Just adults wanting to remember their youth fondly.

@Daniel Cafarelli Hasbro didnt have rights to the cartoon at that point. 1985 i believe. I think toei had handed off the project as well. This was around the time they would be doing fist of the north star. Im not sure you'd consider it Canon even. Not that the series followed the comics anyway. It seemed awful flimsy. Optimus is retrieved out of space. With a robot infection. Almost destroys all transformers, and is saved at the end by the matrix. And worse hot rod just says I'm out cya lol. It felt extremely rushed and just inserted. Id imagine they had an actual ending. Probably similar to the til all are one ending. I love optimus prime, but a good story teller shouldn't let the fans dictate the product. Also it had such a short run. Really just 84 to like early 87, maybe late 86. While the Japanese version had many spinoffs. Headmaster, masterforce, robots in disguise, and star saber just took the optimus cool factor and made it even more cool. And then they merged which was epic. It wasn't until way later we got these Americanized spinoffs. Like beast wars, etc. They were good, dont get me wrong. Even the Netflix stuffs not bad. But you never really get that same nostalgia. I mean literally get off the bus and catch the end of gi Joe and watch transformers. On WGN. Then they made that Generation 2 crap lol. On fox I believe early mornings. Literally just gen 1 with inserts.

@Daniel Cafarelli while the truth isn't so pretty. As kids we enjoyed the plot, got some life lessons, and it made a few voice actors huge stars. Like Chris latta, starscream cobra commander. And of course optimus and Megatron but they both were big already. Doing Scooby-Doo and hundred acre forest. Yeah optimus prime did tigger awhile.

Kinda tough to get this on spotify for a few reasons: A) the licensing fees to make it happen would cost WAAAAAY more than we'd make, even over the course of years. B) it's a collab between us and Helion Prime, so we'd have to even further split the income, which is tough. Trust me - I would if I could! :(
