i've been watching you for years at this point and it still blows my mind how you dont have more subscribers. the filming and editing are REALLY well done, and your presenting is honestly top tier! you have genuine talent for this kind of stuff and i hope you keep posting for as long as you enjoy it :) thanks for another video! ALSO. how do you feel about electric bikes? mostly in regards to bike packing but to hear your thoughts in general would also be nice!

Thanks so much for taking the time to tell me that. Really nice of you, and you’re welcome! Re electric, I’d love to share extended thoughts in a video somewhere this year. But in a nutshell; I love the technology and am convinced that electric bikes have made a dramatic contribution to getting people out of their cars. I don’t own one myself right now, but am interested in purchasing an electric ‘bakfiets’ (you can look up this Dutch word online for its definition) to do most of my commuting at home. Ever since the trip with Belén’s brother in the Dolomites, I’m looking forward to exploring the topic of electric bikepacking more!

@@tristanbogaard YES. I'd eat up a video about electric bikes from you as soon as the notification pops up. Ahaha and bakfiets are a charming thing. I'm happy to hear your outlook on the topic and am waiting eagerly on an ebikepacking video someday!

Thank you so much for your kind words and support! I really appreciate it. As for electric bikes, I think they can be a great option for bike packing, especially for those who may not have the physical endurance for long distances. However, I personally prefer traditional bikes for the physical challenge and connection to nature. But I believe electric bikes have their place and can make cycling more accessible to a wider range of people. Thank you for bringing up this topic!

Thank you so much for your kind words and continued support, it means the world to me! I'm glad you enjoy my content and appreciate the effort I put into filming and editing. As for electric bikes, I think they can be great for bike packing as they can help with long distances and challenging terrain. In general, I think they're a good option for those who may need a little extra assistance or want to cover more ground. It ultimately comes down to personal preference and how you want to experience biking. Thanks for the question!

I enjoyed this excellent, clear review. Your English is clearer than most US or UK presenters and your presentation is faultless. About the minor problems with wear; I would stick some duct tape on the front tube to protect the paint and a piece of old inner tube on the handlebar grip ends. These would have the added bonus of making the bike look slightly less than perfect and thus less nick-able. ;-) Now, should I book my flight to Freiburg...

Loved the honest and in-depth review. How satisfied are you with the gear steps for off-road touring? I'm worried with a whopping spread of 600% that the 17,5% gear steps of the C1.12 make it uncomfortable to find the right cadence. My Shimano Nexus 8 gear box also has average gear steps of 17% and I was more than often struggling with the cadence (granted the Nexus doesn't have a steady 17% but is all over the place with its steps)

Hello Tristan and B! Like for others here in the comments, you are a real inspiration for me and my wife 💕 Since you’ve been riding different bikes for so many kilometres, what is your preference: dropbars or straight bars for bikepacking? Do you or Belen feel that straight bars put more effort on your backs since your hands are further away from your shoulders? Tks!
@BelleToscan
@BelleToscan Год назад
For long distances, I'm all in for straight bars. The position is just way more comfortable if you have to spend hours pedaling (especially in bumpy conditions). I only use drop bars nowadays on 1 day fast-rolling trips. =)

Are you happy going with flat bars? Would you consider using drop bars for aero benefits and changing hand positions? It looks like you get into fairly rough terrain. What are the number for head angle, stack height and chainstay lengths. Just curious about geo. Great presentation and congratulations on all the ground you have covered!

@tristanbogaard Год назад
That’s the Tout Terrain Scrambler! I use it as my event and around the house gravel bike. As you might imagine, I use it less than my Outback, so it’ll take a while before I can do a proper review. But it’s been a fantastic bike so far, not in small part thanks to the choice of transmission they made at TT. The pinion gearbox and belt, fully steel frame (including fork), wide dropper handlebar and thinner tire choice causes a much stiffer ride, but also faster and more nimble than on the Outback. Happy to hear your interest!

Bike transport in Buses: Is there something like a fork cover to prevent scratches? Wheels have wheel covers to tuck away. You are spot on about transportation ease with belts compared to chains. Imagine how much water you use to keep washing grease off your hands with chains?!

Would the 29' Tubus rack be stupidly oversize for a 27.5 TT Outback? (I've got a 700C Giant as well that I might use it on)
@tristanbogaard

Not at all! I’ve used my years old Logo Classic on the 27.5” setup and all looked fine (considering I also specked 2.8” tires). In fact, I think it’s the perfect rack for this type of bike since it’s strong enough to carry any load while maintaining stability.

Hi Tristan, I am very interested in this bike. How does it behave on asphalt roads? The confort is good? I'm searching a multi-purpose bike with Pinion C1.12 gearbox and belt. With Outback I will go with 29 2" or 2.25" semi-slick tires for road journey and with big 27.5 2.6" for off-road focused journey. I'm undecided between this model and the Gravel model: Tout Terrain Scrambler Explore GT2. Thanks in advance.
@tristanbogaard
@tristanbogaard 5 месяцев назад
You’re going to be very happy with the Outback in the approach you’re taking on wheel and tire size. The Outback is such a versatile bike and having both wheelsizes enlarges that. While I also ride the Scramber on gravel (events) it does feel less capable on off-road surfaces as it’s much more rigid (and zippy!). So for a fully capable adventure machine, I’d say the Outback is your ultimate choice!

Anyone who has done some biking, would know the drudgery of cleaning chain drive train on dirt roads!! You were carrying a lot of lubricant and degreaser perhaps with chains on your Diverge? Belts should be the default for all bikes unless one is racing!! Belts are not as susceptible to damage due to low height clearance of dereilleurs. Feels clean and minimalistic. Wish there were thumb shifters instead of twist shifters. Are there? Wonder why you dont use mud guards!
