That poor thing! Even from here, 100 years later, and somehow communicated through an old photo, her dog looks traumatized and filled with incomprehensible grief. The poor pup had seen some things and the media's seeming gleeful torment of the animal is an abject horror...

My Grandmother used to have these magazines around her house. I was fascinated by them. Woman tied up and in all forms of horrifying poses. No wonder I have a true crime obsession.

Ah, yes. I've read about this case and have seen a few true crime show episodes about it. This case needs a lot more exposure and this was brilliant as always my friend.

A fascinating and truly horrific crime! Thank you, Dearest Oddie, for bringing this to us! A beautiful victim of "wrong place/wrong time". Thankfully, her case was solved! All 3 victims deserved justice. And poor Ethel, losing her mother and sister in one fell swoop to a vicious and deceitful "friend".

One of the saddest things I ever heard. A girl gets murdered for coming home and getting ready for bed. Who cares what she did for a living? She did not a thing to provoke the situation. Disgraceful exploitation by the press. And her poor innocent mother and boarder! What a terrible story. But very well done, Oddy!😮

I actually showed an apartment once many, many moons ago in the building this took place at - 316 East 50th Street, known then as Beekman Place. Very interesting story, but so sad all the same. Harold Schechter wrote a book about this case in 2014 titled “The Mad Sculptor: The Maniac, the Model, and the Murder that Shook the Nation.”

I cannot imagine what her sister Ethel went thru after her mother and sister were murdered. Then to find out that she was the intended victim.

Your videos are so interesting to watch, you don't add a lot of the same old stock footage in every single video. You have the vintage photos and I like that you put the scrolling script in there to fill in between photos. Much more effort than a lot of other channels. Such a shame youtube is such a butt about censorship.

Wow! How sad was this story. Can you imagine confronting a suspect instead of just calling the police…. That was ballzy or just dumb. She could have been murdered too!!!

My mother used to buy those "detective" magazines when I was a young kid....all I could figure out from their lurid covers, Oddie, was that something horrible was happening to the...underclad...women portrayed, screaming, on the covers of those things. I don't know why she read them. I never had the courage to ask. She left them laying about sometimes, I'd see and read the covers, and I don't think she should have done that, left them around like that...they weren't pleasant to see. Guess she didn't care. Sèeing them during those years did not stop my later fascination, starting at 19, with criminal investigation and forensic science, which, to this day, over 50 years later, is one of my passions. It's fun being an old "armchair detective", you know, it's great intellectual exercise (however strange that kind of intellectual exercise may be!), and I imagine I'll be studying this stuff, our Oddie, for however much longer I'll be around. Your elegant and beautifully researched videos are a fascinating joy to me. They get my old neurons firing away! American cases are fascinating enough, but I also love learning about cases in other countries, too, which you often present so very weĺl. And you care about the victims, as all who portray cases in the media should do. Just surprises me how, back then, the reporters were allowed to overrun crime scenes, interfere with and contaminate these situations in such a crass and insulting way. They were turning horror and sadness into tabloid fodder...still done today, but at least they are no longer allowed to overrun and contaminate, and even steal things from crime scenes as they once were allowed to do. Another superb video, beautifuĺly done, and fascinating, Oddie Beau. Yours are truly the best I've seen, and I'm picky! Thank you again , with love and best wishes. 😊

This isn’t the only story about a sick man who can’t abide good looking women. Then the fact that the woman is an actress, dancer, model means she’s been begging for. The fact that cops don’t bother with it means they too feel that she deserves it. Once the murderer gets to trial well he’s insane. The beauty of the woman drove him mad. It’s her fault. The good old misogynistic motive is totally unfounded. After all nobody can challenge it without being dragged in the mud.

One things for sure...media has not changed one bit. Also, the Mattawan State Hospital was in NJ. Close to where I lived & we took a class trip there in the 5th grade, I don't know what the school system was thinking. I also lived on the grounds as an au pair for one of the psychiatrist that treated patients there.

Quite a few parallels with the Kohberger case.

this was an interesting story, Veronica didn't deserve to be murdered, what went thru this mans mind before he murdered her Ill never know, i really think their brains are lacking something or wired totally different in some sinister way, the part about the cast of her face being made is eerie in itself, but these cases often have bazaar turn outs, thanks for bringing this story to us

Bob was a bit coocoo and I'm really surprised or not surprised the system allowed him to be free on the streets to where he didn't even have any remorse about killing three people in cold blood.
