1. The game was fun at first, but got tiresome super fast due to the fact that a match can easily go up to 20+ minutes, it was *really common* for multiple players to just gang up on you, sort of creating a "don't let them see you bleed" meta and the monetisation didn't help. 2. The Raids were awesome tbh. Pretty fun and it actually encourages people to work together. And the fact that The Monarchs are the bosses was a nice touch. 3. Master Duel *definetly* stole any sort of hype Cross Duel might have had. 4. I *really hope* they actually take the models and animation they made for this game and put it into another, better, game.

I actually enjoyed this game, and you do make good points. The second the other players smell blood, it's a hard fought uphill battle, but i didn't mind. But what made me stop playing and uninstalling this game was the fact that I needed either the same card OR a certain amount of the same rarity to upgrade a card. Meaning I got an unimpressive Holly Angel unless I give them my money and role the dice. I also like that each monster had its own Flavor Text

A Christ-like Fragrance Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. -2 Corinthians 2:15- Some people like to wear a lot of cologne or perfume. And if they hug you, you will still smell like them hours later. But what is fragrant to one person may not be fragrant to another. For instance, nothing smells better than when you walk into a kitchen where someone is making spaghetti sauce with garlic. And nothing smells worse than the breath of someone who just ate garlic. That is true of the gospel as well. The apostle Paul described it this way: “Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume” (2 Corinthians 2:15-16) Some churches have become a little too preoccupied with being the cook, and they’ve forgotten how important it is to confront people with the claims of Jesus Christ. Sometimes we have the delivery system in place, but we don’t have the message to deliver. And sometimes in our attempts to cross over, we fail to bring the cross over. But if we miss that, we have missed everything, because the gospel is the only hope for our nation and our world. It is the only hope for nonbelievers. When we share the message of the gospel, it will be a fragrant perfume to some. But to others it will be offensive and repulsive. Some people will respond favorably. And others will respond unfavorably. But we still need to share the message. We still need to use every means possible to get the gospel out to as many people as we can.

Honesstly, Cross Duel reminds me a lot of the early experimental YGO video games where they had wacky playstyles and formats. It makes me wonder if they had fleshed it out a bit and released it as a console game with online multiplayer rather than a mobile game competing with Duel Links and Master Duel, would it have fared better.

I think a franchise like Yu-Gi-Oh is a difficult one to make spinoffs or games w/ revamped mechanics. Duel Links got a good reception because it’s main selling point of being a fast paced and back to basics Yu-Gi-Oh really piqued our interests at the time, and currently it’s still a good alternative to playing Master Duel. Yu-Gi-Oh to me doesn’t have that many routes open for spinoffs. Even if they decide to make a game out of Dungeon Dice, Labyrinth Duels, etc., it won’t do as good as Duel Links ever did.

Because most people don’t want to even give them a shot,if it’s not regular yugioh, they won’t bother. And saying that it’s hard to make something differently for yugioh? I strongly disagree, you have infinite ideas when it comes what kind of game you want to make relating to yugioh. It’s just that one,Konami are notorious for not even bothering with a ip’s full potential and two, most people just care about the card game and don’t want to give someone different a chance. People want tag duels, people wanted something like master duel and people played duel links because it was a quicker version of the og card game.

Honestly I put the blame squarely on Big K's shoulders here. Early on, Yu Gi Oh enjoyed myriad spinoffs and side games. Capsule Monsters, Dungeon Dice, Duelist of the Roses, as well as games made before the ruleset was really ironed out like Forbidden Memories. These games and side projects ranged from failure to moderate success, and I can remember friends being excited about the ideas of different play styles and whacky rulesets. But the MOST money to be had was in the tcg, competing with mtg and pokemon, So Konami pretty quickly put all eggs in that basket. To the point that anything that isn't just like the tcg will fail on two fronts. 1, most tcg fans will ignore it b/c it's not the tcg. 2 most non fans will ignore it b/c they'll ASSUME it is the tcg. A shame really, I miss whacky Yu-Gi-Oh.

I definitely agree with a lot of your points. The game was fun, but it had a high hill to climb to compete with Duel Links and Master Duels. Definitely liked the Battle Royale format, but I had designed a deck that I saved free gems for that (and even that, newer cards/strategies made it harder to compete when I was saving for the boss monster that I really wanted to build). Like I personally really enjoyed the Guardian monsters, especially since it allows Maximum monsters from Rush Duels work in a Yu-gi-oh format alongside other monster types. My first real competitive deck was XYZ-Dragon Cannon that evolved to WVXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon. It was fun and I liked a gimmicky deck where I essentially ran all machine monsters to make the deck worked.

The power creep in this game is real. Dark Magician of Chaos turning everyone on your field into A Wizardry beat down Ace was the start of the modern meta. Where you can expect monsters with 7000 atk coming down your lane with only one turn of warning. Spell card being the fastest, most interactive/reactive card type in the game give this a mechanical advantage. Then came Borreload Dragon. Who literally steals all your opponents skills becoming an unstoppable snowball of aggresive pressure. But his design flaw is being a link monster. Meaning a quarter of your deck had to be anticipating him being put in defense position. Then finally came YamiRuler the Dark Delayer, with “Determination” most popular interruption effects like swords of concealing light and Enemy controller not only were powerless to stop him, they boosted his attack and defense by 1000. In a game where defense points matter being able to switch your monster positions and get the maximum value out of each body on the field already is doing laps around the other decks. Add on top of that that he is a Kashtira and zone Locks your opponents setting you up for direct attacks that can only be defended against with a guardian monster and you have a card which is head and shoulders above powercrept clunky awkward strategies like Arboreal Power, or Extra attack. My determination deck with only 2 slots and missing gyakutenno megami but still cleans up.

Yeah. Bots only exist in the very bottom rank. The people you’re matched with in rank are real people. Not only because they have names like “big caulk” “B.EyzWTrash” and “Ligma” Which obviously konami would never program into the game. But also because they are highly intelligent and you can feel the spiteful hatred expressed in their game decisions. Honestly the psychological aspect is part of what makes cross duel so fun. Displaying dominance. But not overextending yourself to lose card advantage. While also not looking like a pushover is a balancing act. Then sometimes theres no coming back and you can devote the rest of the game to fucking over the person who fucked you over and making sure they get 3rd place and go down in rank with you.

Instead facing off against each other, you all had to work together to defeat the Raid Boss at the center of the field. It felt so cool to work with other people in this manner, and depending on the boss, you and your teammates would have to use different strategies and abilities to efficiently take down the boss. Some of the possible combos you could pull off as a team were absolutely nuts. I'm gonna miss this game for sure.

I just rewatched it, and I feel like Adrian could have won if he'd crashed Exodius into Hamon instead of Uria, the turn Exodius got up to 4000 atk. Because damage was never his win condition to begin with, he had no facedowns he was setting that turn that Uria could destroy, and Yubel literally stated out loud on their previous turn that Eternal Reverse could negate battle destruction, yet Adrian still seemed completely surprised taken by surprise when she used it. That would've changed the outcome because Yubel couldn't have summoned Raviel, let alone Armityle, without controlling both Uria and Hamon. I checked it just now to make sure, and it holds up.

I kinda liked some of the new-ish play styles Cross Duel had going (Every monster having a skill tree and it being 4 players). Both made me think of Season 3 of the original series. The first half of the season was the virtual world arc where deck masters were a thing: giving sometimes vanilla monsters an effect like the skill trees in Cross Duel. Then in the second half of the season, the Battle City finals arc, Yugi, Kiaba, Marik and Joey were in a 4-way duel to see who faces who in the semi-finals. I wouldn't mind seeing these mechanics again in a new Yugioh game that has a lot more planning. Cross Duel in a way did feel like a rushed project.

I agree with a lot of your points. I played a lot of Cross Duel on the month of release. I even bought packs and whatnot. However, the monetization was horrible. The beginning meta was just Blue-Eyes at max level up because it had the highest base attack for 2 sacrifices AND you get to destroy any single one monster card. The most frustrating part was the dog piling. Like you mentioned, once you are at a slight disadvantage, two people start attacking you and it is damn near impossible to fight back. It becomes a case of, eliminate 1 person to end the match so everyone else keeps their ranking (or goes up).

I don't think it helps Cross Duel's case that, as far as I remember, marketing for this game was _non-existent._ I learned the game existed because I just randomly found it on the google play store weeks before it was released and looked into it. And then since it was mobile only, my phone wasn't good enough to even play the game.

I love how the board and the gameplay was for this game but there were problems. Mobile only, now I don't mind this but with battery usage is a problem. Four people at once, I love the idea but that's it. The gameplay should have been a two vs two tag team where one team share the same board but the monsters moving to the other side to fight can be kept. Full field, I don't like boards similar to speed duel or dual links. Animations and music are the two things I really love. IF his was team focus, I would have played more.

Me and my 3 Yu-Gi-Oh friends do a free for all thing where we basically do turns around a table clockwise or anticlockwise with someone chosen to go 1st. No one is allowed to attack until everyone has had a turn and other than that its like normal Yu-Gi-Oh but you choose who to attack when. There are some really funky rules like how Raigeki and Mirror Force can only destroy monsters on 1 player's field due to cards having "opponent" and "opponent's" (singular) respectively and it in general feels more balanced, Dark Hole and Heavy Storm do still destroy all opponent's cards but none of us use them. It is really fun and I spent most of school in the library with my friends playing like this.

The animations had so much character and charm to them. I think it was amazing that even trashy monsters got animations because usually, it's only ace monsters. I usually played single player or the event single player/raid because pvp was so slow. At least in single player there was the auto duel button for passive grinding if you were doing something else and also the 2x speed button for the animations and all that. The pull rates were horrendous, though. I got mostly lucky but not as lucky as Sam, but something definitely doesn't feel right when there's an event box going on and you can sink 15 max pull gems into it and still get a duplicate UR if you're *lucky* when all you want is the new boss monster. Also, while some of the stories were very basic and just revolved around the player being in a tournament and meeting the anime characters and having fun, some were really intresting honestly! The Akiza event where the player is also a Psychic duelist that was in Sayer's group along with Akiza was really neat and intriguing and I'm dying that we'll never get the conclusion to that plotline to see if the player and Akiza escape the basically cult. Oh, and of course all the custom voice work was great too. And japanese audio available day one. I see why Cross duel wasn't successful but I think with some simple changes that konami kept refusing to make it could've been a very fun side game for people who arent as into the tcg or just want something new. (Or shorter than master duel because when speed up was allowed the matches are definitely quicker than Master format). If anything I hope Konami learns from their mistakes here but also isn't afaird to try new kinds of ygo games and not just newer ports/versions of the standard tcg. Like I do miss when the ygo video games would try more "out there" things like with Forbidden Memories or Duelist of the Roses.

I actually made a Reddit post about this. One of the many problems it had was and not limited to: 1.) Never released on PC/Steam 2.) The animations take way too long to finished. 3.) the game itself is a phone Battery eater. 4.) Sometime the rewards were not worth the battles. 5.) Constant disconnects and crashes. 6.) Matches/Raid take too long to finishes. 7.) Getting any SR and UR monster slots after the first slot is a pain to get before the free 10 pull event day. 8.) heavy Monetization Sadly, I like Cross Duels, it was an interesting game and playstyle but the lags really hurt the game.

All my opponents (apart from player 3) were about to attack me directly but I played Mirror Force to destroy them. There were still monsters on the field but they were in Defense Position and I had Red Dragon Archfiend. At the end of the duel, nothing was left apart from Red Dragon Archfiend. I had 8000 life points.

We still need to use every means possible to get the gospel out to as many people as we can..

Cross Duel is a brilliant example of the (lost) potential of these spinoff games, my only consistent gripe was that deckbuilding was the hardest part to figure out, i.e. what are good ratios of of monsters-spells-traps. I loved the opening animation and the way that Utopia felt like it was bending the rules when it stacked up a few buffs/debuffs. A console game would have been a good idea; it would have made navigating the menus a lot easier and allowed the room to add more engaging Single Player content--I can easily see a Story/Campaign mode where the plot revolves around trying to revive Exodia. Raid Duels would be a perfect way to display that a fight is more serious.

Cross duel was a fun idea but like you said, the fact that you could just get ganged up on and insta lose was a big problem. I personally liked Cross Duel. Did I play it every day? No. Were there times in Ranked when I felt cheated? Yes (although that happens in every online game). Was it a bit slow? Yes (animations were cool though). Overall, though, I thought that the gameplay was unique and interesting. It’s a shame to see it go, but I understand why it’s going. One funny thing that I’ve noticed is that, since the announcement of the end of service (+MUCH better gem rewards and free daily pulls), there have been more people online in Ranked. Not a LOT more, but a noticeable uptick compared to before the announcement. The one thing I don’t like about this end of service stuff is that the Duel Links rewards (Gems) and Master Duel rewards (Icon + Gems) are for Android users ONLY, which sucks, because the Master Duel icon that you get looks really good (plus who doesn’t want free gems).

It was a cool concept. Reminds me of the time when Konami released those weird not quite yu gi oh games on consoles. But they worked because they were self contained packages. It's really hard to make a live service out of something that is such a departure from the main thing. Have they made this a stand alone game with online play maybe, then I think it would've been a different story. But Konami doesn't seem to like making games like that anymore. And so, the dream of a World Legacy RPG will never come to fruition...

As Yugioh Everything brings up in his video, the fact no-one streamed to promote it either did it no favors either. This game might have done twice as well if it was released on PC.

I still think they should have just released this as a mode inside of Master Duel, streamline the mechanics so it moved faster, let you use certain cards that you earned while playing the main mode of Master Duel. Not only would that have not cannibalized Cross Duel's potential player base, it would have bolstered Master Duel's features. Especially at the beginning of the game, where there wasn't a ton to do.
