Saint had a fighting spirit similar to a great player from City - Mike Doyle.

My all time football hero. I was 9 when he came to LFC and was a chorister in Liverpool Cathedral. When the Bishop announced a reading fro "StJohn" I used to do the StJohn clap in the choir stalls. Happy days! What a Man he was, met him a few times and told him stories and he always had time for the fans. THAT Goal at Wembley in 1965 cemented his legacy! RIP "Saint" YNWA!

What a brilliant footballer The 'Saint' was for Liverpool. A tenacious battler, he certainly propelled Liverpool to greatness when Shanks brought him down from Scotland in 1961 along with Big Ron. A director at Liverpool asked Shanks can we afford these two players as they mulled over splashing the cash. Can we afford not to? asked Shanks, the rest as they say is history. R.I.P Ian, you were the greatest as so often acknowledged by the KOP.

What a great player St John was. He scored the winner in the 1965 FA Cup Final, the first time Liverpool won the trophy. Famous for the mention on the Church Notice , 'Jesus Saves', to which some wag added, 'but St John knocks in the rebound'. Brilliant.

There was also “ What would you do if Jesus came to Liverpool?” “ Move St John to inside right”

Had the pleasure of being approached by Sir Ian. I was metal detecting in storton wood, Bebington, he asked what I'd found! I was star struck, I showed him the two ship half pennies I'd found just, he laughed and said, 'I remember spending these'. I gave him one and I kept the other separate from my other finds, as the man had held it and laughed with me right there

As a young lad I walked from Bootle to what we thought was posh place, to Briars lane Maghull where Ian and his family lived, one day Ian arrived and we froze on the spot,Ian said hello and emptied his pockets of half crowns shillings and a few sixpences and offered us the bounty, we just couldn’t accept his generous offer, to put those coins on EBay now would probably worth millions, in my dreams, haha

A great player who represented his country and club with distinction. Listening to the commentary on this tribute is nauseating repeatedly going round in circles trying to drag as much time as possible.

This is a cheap and nasty insult to the Saint, who I knew well. The soundtrack would embarrass a six-year-old. Garbage

Appalling!! This reduces a brilliant player to virtually nothing, repeated sentences, repeated points, nothing from the family unlike your title states!! This hasn’t honoured Saint at all. Do better. Bob England
