@johngarbarini1048

Lymon was, like you say, the forerunner of many black singers today. He had a gig in lower NYC right before he died; he had friends in show biz who wanted him to stage a comeback after a lukewarm 60s career. They set him up with sweet weekend singing gigs in NYC, for about $1K per week, which was nice money in those days, while they sent him to acting auditions during the week. He promised them to stay clean. However, he went back on the dope, much to the frustration and anger of his friends and family, and died young.

He pretty much fell because of the times. He went solo prematurely, when his voice changed for some reason people didn't like it even though his voice was much better once it changed it was more soulful more mature and deeper. (It was mainly because of the drugs why the industry turned on him. He OD'd because he celebrated his potential comeback (he recorded two songs "sea breeze" and "I'm sorry") days before his death

Believe me any kind of opioid addiction is tremendously hard to get off of. It took me a long long time. I had a lot easier than he did because they put me on a suboxone treatment program and I was able to get over this. Back in his day it wasn't so easy, they had to do it cold turkey. It was so hard that this addiction could actually kill a person if they were weak. I thank God I had it easy! Thank you Lamont for sharing! I do love your shows I just don't always have a lot to say.

I loved the "Why do Fools Fall in Love" movie. Lorenz Tate did a great job playing Frankie. It's not uncommon for ppl to accidentally overdose after being clean for a while. When they relapse & use, they believe they can take the same amount of drugs they were takng when they stopped using. They simply can't handle it that much after being clean for so long.

Oh wow so they finally put Frankie's head stone 😳 👏 on his grave because for many years Frankie had a unmarked grave, and now they finally did it because Italiano first thought of hosting a benefit event to raise money for the headstone, he consulted Lymon’s widow, Emira Eagle. She married the singer less than a year before he died in 1968, at 25. Eagle was onboard with the fan effort, which brought in $3,000 for the memorial. But when it came time to place the stone, she had other plans. The tribute clashed with another part of Lymon’s legacy: the legal battle over his song royalties. in the tangle of trying to determine who would be legally entitled to Lymon’s royalties, Eagle decided that it would be better if she provided a tombstone for the singer. “In Loving Memory of My Husband Frank J. Lymon,” reads the headstone at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx. (Eagle died in 2019.) #facts we Studied the aftermath about frankie lymons death

A Big THANK YOU For doing a video of Frankie Lymon who was without a doubt Talented beyond compare. It sad that he died so young due to drugs. I always wondered where he was buried and you just answered it.

Odd side note: His grave was unmarked for about 20 years. A bunch of fans realized this and raised funds to have one made. During the late '80's when "the three wives of Frankie Lymon" were fighting in court, the wives (or some of them, one of them?) forbade fans placing the headstone upon the grave. Then they quickly put up their own headstone. The whole thing was bizarre. Frankie Lymon's original headstone sat in a record store window in Clifton, NJ. During the late '80's and early '90's (and beyond). I used to pass it on my way to school. Then it sat in a fan's backyard for a few years. Now, the original Frankie Lymon headstone is in a museum in Michigan.

Lamont u sing so great. I was singing with u. Don't stop keep singing. Sad story of Frankie he could have become more success in his music career. He was addicted to drugs. Gone too soon. Merry Christmas Lamont. I hope u sing some Christmas songs for us. 😎
