It's bullshit that he lost his voice! Listen to his "I'm Yours" album. He was over 18 when he recorded it and his voice had already changed. The notes he hit were phenomenal!! Frankie was a major talent and should have been bigger than anyone at that time. Mad respect for this musical genius!!
Lost his voice meaning he wasn't soprano anymore. "I'm Yours" voice is deeper than his 'Why do fools fall in love" voice. Mix puberty and drugs I'm surprised he could still sing at all but his voice was still beautiful 😍.
This is the E network I grew up with. I used to love watching Mysteries and Scandals. Frankie Lymon was a talented young man. It's a shame he lived such a troubled and short life.
I was in the Army in 66-69 and had a friend who served with Frankie at Ft. Gordon , Ga. He told me that in the barracks several nights, they would get a bottle of Scotch ever now and then and Frankie would sing for the soldiers. They all thought he was a great guy and great singer. I can remember his songs so well when I was a youngster and remember seeing him in a movie in the 50s.
I just watched the Alan Freed bio pic and Morris was a snake whereas Freed did all he can to help popularize so many black artists back then including Franky
Frankie and the Teenagers are Such Inspiration especially to the Jackson 5 and Michael ❤️ you know his talent was an absolute inspiration. Rest in peace
Now that I think about it Frankie and the teenagers were like the original Jackson Five. They also made a movie about Frankie it starred Lela Rochon, Vivica Fox, Halle Berry, and Lorenz Tate as Frankie.
Catspaw l WAS WATCHIN THA MOVIE LAST NITE AND SOMEHOW REALIZED THAT I HAD SAW THIS MOVIE B 4! SO I DECIDED 2 LOOK UP FRANKIE LYMON AND WAS VERY SADDEN BY WUT I HAD READ.... FAME AND DRUGS IS A DEADLY MIXITURE 2 MANY WHO B'COME FAMOUS.... HE WAS SO SO YOUNG 2 B ON DRUGS... HAD NO IDEA PEOPLE DID HERION AT THAT AGE...
@Emontre Waters They would've had to include his wives because they are a part of his life. But since you think they should do a movie just about him they should include the rest of the teenagers after they split from Frankie. We get to see through their eyes what they went through I know they were heated when they were cut from the group & that Frankie was the guy they wanted.
I had the honor of meeting Herman Santiago in Manhattan NY, He was the most elegant man. Class and Style Frankie Lyman & The Teenagers were! GOD BLESS YOU Herman Santiago & THE Teenages♡
Its sad bc he really needed guidance. He was a soul that needed someone to talk authority over his life. He needed a parent figure. He had to be in a lot of pain bc of all the drug use. Those kind of people are fragile, but essential to life. At least I believe. Rest well Frankie. You reached even us born in the 90s.
Frankie was such a handsome boy I love watching footage of him from back then so sad the way he died even though you was way before my time I love you frankie Lyman
Dennis Minor it’s the business. They still getting robbed. When Tu Pac was killed he owed Suge 2 million according to the books. Ditty refused to pay Faith Evans biggies royalties. Tony Braxton got such low royalties off her fist few albums she had to file BK. The emotions were never paid their royalties for boogie wonderland because they signed as a part of EWF and EWF kept the $$$. Motown artists got robbed outside of Smokey, Marvin and Diana. Some died broke despite having massive hits because Barry’s writers I e Motown owned the publishing rights. The funk brothers..I e Motown played the music..so nobody wrote their own sings. Perfect hustle. Petey Green was right when he called Barry Gordy a pimp. The music business is more dirty and corrupt than the sex industry.
Franky Lymon was the best his voice was still good even after it changed musty listen to him sing a song titled "sea breeze" loves all his songs but my most favorite is a song called "foot steps" it's thee most beeauutiful song to here him sing!! r.i.p Franky.
When you’re a singer you have to take care of your voice. My mother sung back up for people that I will not say. That means doing breathing exercises keeping your vocal chords soft because if hard you have to have surgery. Then along with the drugs on top of it didn’t help. He lived a quick fast life as if he was a ninety year old man. Great voice gone too soon like so many others…may just soul forever Rest In Peace🙏
its just as the man said he "lived fast and died young"...The kind of stuff that he was using was way heavy..(Thats the flipside) If he had stayed in Georgia and the Army he might just still be with us...
Yay found it! Part 2! I’ve heard Frankie’s recording when he was older and personally I think he could have been another smooth singer like Frank Sinatra or Nat King Cole his voice was mature and excellent.
I've read tons of books and talked to alot of people.i have never heard a good word about Morris levy.i was told by one singer that levy was so low he invented the limbo.
My late biological father was heroin addict and was found dead in his home at 42. It still hurts me to this day. This performer had everything going for him but he had chosen a poison that he couldn't get enough of.
Sabre Lock even if you do, it’s too easy to get caught up. Especially when you have baggage. This kid went from straight poverty to famous and temporary rich overnight. That’s a lot for a normal mentally healthy person to deal with. Take a immature kid, no father in his life, mom was ill, snake oil managers, shady adults, then he leaves the teenagers so nobody had his back, he had no shot to come out of that.
@L. G. it also one of my favorites. The first time I saw it was at a drive in movie theater. Which was back in the 80's and it was so much fun to see a movie. In the summer we would sit on the hood of the vehicles to watch.
That is why I rate Serena and venue father he looks over them and till they come big women so no one can mess with them Mr Williams you is a good father gob bless you I wish you was around to help Franky Lyman will old people always say what goes around comes around rip Franky one love
Having public success before you're even done with puberty.... I can't think of a sharper double-edged sword. The public wants you to be ageless and maintain the cuteness of a kid... When you're transformed into an adult, unless you're drop-dead gorgeous, it's going to be damn hard maintaining celebrity as a relevant and successful star. And that's precisely the seat of depression for so many former 'child stars' .... They ultimately transform into normal everyday people. And they learn the key to their success had an expiration date. That must be heartbreaking!
Frankie Lymon Also Inspired A Young Up And Coming Singer, Songwriter Named " Howard Beverly " Who He Had So Much Of A Influential Impact On That He Even Changed His Name To Commemorate The Singer....He Changed His Name His From " Howard To Frankie " And Later Formed The Smooth Sounding R&B Group Called....Wait For It... " MAZE "!!!!!! 😇
My goodness, what a sad thing 13 years old doing drugs and having sex with 20 and 25 year old women ....that's child abuse.. well I guess anything goes in the wicked entertainment business and look at as normal ...my goodness how stan rob him of his childhood and his life , what bitter pain and abuse ...........he was so talented but lack positive guidance. poor guy didn't even stand a chance , how sad..... and shame on his parents.
shame on his father only! he was hardly ever there for frankie and when he was he a drunk and abusive. his mother was a good mom bit she was very sick! she was in and out of the hospital dying of cancer she passed away when frankie was just 18. frankie and his brothers mostly lived with his grandmother in her Harlem apartment.
Lakeshia McGee I am so sick of the US morally reprehensible, pseudo Christian majority attaching every sexual encounter with someone older partner, “child abuse” or pedophilia etc.! That is such crap. I have dated several men in my life, and nearly everyone confided their early sex encounters were between ages 13 and 15! Most said the woman was older, occasionally several years older, and that it was the best thing that ever happened to them...😊....So what!? My first boyfriend was 18 and I was 14..,the nicest, most respectful guy...my parents approved. I guess you would call that child abuse!? ........Frankie’s problems were heroin addiction and no support and judgment surrounding money and management, not the older gals he bedded.. the woman were the least of his issues......poor Franky...RIP
Anna Brown We are aware of who are responsible for introducing drugs into Black communities and the entertainment business. Drugs and various forms to distract Black entertainers to steal hundreds or more of monies and claiming the fortunes for their white greedy lustful desires and their families. Old Monies. ....
Don't do frankie! He NEVER "lost" his voice. it matured and those wicked industry people didn't like his matured sound but he could definitely still sing!
This is why I despise the music business from the beginning it's been run by criminals and is designed to screw over the the artist and make these crooks rich. Everyone talking bout frankie like he was a mature man he was 13 when he started all he needed was a little guidance and care. But once you become a star Everyone around you becomes a snake outta of jealousy and envy. Rip 🙏
I listened to records Franke made after his voice changed, (matured), unbelieveable, his voice was even better than anyone could ever imagine, simply beautiful. This man could sing. He was oNE of a kind. I wish he could have gotten help for his drug problem. He died too young.
Hi, I notice alot of mangers would tell these famous singers, I could give you something to keep you up. Like Billy Holiday in the movie, Mahoney, the five heart beater. The list goes on and on! Drugs git the best of a lot of famous people. Their music will always be in millions of house hold.
Knew Zola very well, when I was commissioned to take backstage photos of the Platters at the Paramount Theater in 1957. Unlike the many accolades for Frankie, he was an absolute A+++++E!
when he was singing and performing under the legal age where was his parents? where were his legal guardian?why was he allowed to be doing drugs under age and running wild and free? the guardian and the parents are at fault. he grew up too fast and had no guidance whatesoever.
after his parents divorced his father abandoned frankie and his brothers. frankie mother was in the hospital dying of cancer she passed away when frankie was just 18. So most of his child hood he and his brothers lived with their grandmother.
Frankie Lymon made or sing so many more other songs than just" Why do fools fall in love." And they were all big hits. So he was rip off out of lots of money that he or his wife should have gotten royalties for all of them songs on his Greatest Hits .And Well to me his songs were hits. Don't know who else have heard them.
They ripped a lot of people in the music industry. Leonard Chess and his brother comes to my mind. They were in Chicago. The same thing happened to Jackie Wilson, he got ripped off by his managers that were Jewish.
White people will always be ripping us of our shit. We gotta learn to own our shit. Lock stock and barrel. Even though oprah is a snake. She owns everything just like Tyler Perry.
what they did to Frankie was a shame, but with Elvis they did it legally, with a Dr. who gave him Rx's and the same with Michael Jackson....just those 3 was such a loss. When does it stop...fast forward to 2015 and it still happens. I loved Frankie's music. Such a gr8 voice, at least we can still hear his songs and travel back in time...PTL
Frankie should have learned that you don"t trust any body ,before you sign any contract, make sure you know what you"re signing, and if you are successful, watch out for the bastards who put their hands in your pocket!
He was married to his last wife for 8 months she had absolutely nothing to do with his career or writing the song Why Do Fools Fall In Love I can't believe she profited inst instead of the Original 'Teenagers'...truly a shame!
Of course I may not know much about yesterday but it all applies the Same many singers or performers were given drugs by managers, people in music industry, “friends"...and sadly got addicted while those measles smile all the way to the bank. Sure they rip off black musician so badly too. Song writers never given rights or money to they own songs, songs taken from blacks groups and given to white groups, look they always did us badly. But he was so young even to be involved in drugs...I felt managers or whatever got him hook so young and basically took his royalties and money. Died black and broke.
Yes it happened to many. not just young black musicians. It still happens today. most up and coming entertainers go to school for business management which also includes entertainment management. so sad to see some one so young die. especially some one as special as he was. He made his first mistake when he left the group. all down hill from there.
