She definitely was 47. She just looked a lot older because of all of those years spent abusing drugs and alcohol. There's a special place in hell for people like Ethel Gumm and Louis B. Mayer. How a mother can subject her children to something so horrible all for money and fame is just beyond me. And what's worse, is she allowed Mayer to continue abusing Judy like he did with all the other young starlets at MGM at the time. Everyone knew what was going on at that studio and nobody did anything to stop it. Disgusting.

What is probably the most tragic is how she was really treated when they filmed Wizard of Oz. Her husband stated that the actors playing the munchkins molested her on set and most of the cast turned their backs on Garland except for Margaret Hamilton aka Wicked Witch (ironic). On top of all of that is that someone from the crew slapped her really hard at one point when she found something to be funny.

They have similar problems around the world. Like one lady from Korea took her own life, because of the abuse she got and nobody believed her. Rocky Dans You‘ve clearly been living under a rock. For starters it’s a well-known fact that Judy’s parents gave her drugs from a very young age to “help” her keep up with her Hollywood’s working regime, and because of that she struggled with substances abuse (and if I recall well, alcoholism too) all her life....and that’s the least. Check any biography or documentary - or any testimony from people who were (contrarily to you) really close to her - about Judy, they all will tell her life was far from happy. Next time inform yourself a little before commenting.

Judy Garland is my childhood icon, from about the age of 4-5, after watching 'The Wizard of Oz', and learnt all trivia about her, read multiple books, documentary's, as well as watching a large majority of her filmography. Also having framed photos of her in my University room. Her life had awful obstacles but her life wasn't tragic, she was a fighter, powering through all the showbiz BS, being put onto performance enhancement pills from joining MGM. She crushed every performance through her 15 years in making motion pictures, 100s of radio shows, 1000s of concerts, The first woman to receive the Grammy for 'Album of the Year'. I wish this video was called 'The life of Judy Garland and the implications of Golden Age fame', just sick of people saying "poor her" "so tragic".

Hi Will, I didn't read books, but watched a couple of documentaries. She was iconic, yes, but I do think she deserved so much more in her life, and I think she never had any stability, with family, with marriages, and with life eventually. I think it is tragic how they treated her, and I believe that point that out will hopefully prevent something similar today. I always love to think that Judy is the kind of woman who is brought to this world as a gift to society, but in being that, she suffered a lot. Hope I didn't make you angry with this, it's just my humble opinion, and I'm not discrediting your opinion with it, because she was truly one of a kind.

Her father was the only one she had, and was her inspiration (alongside her children) to carry on. Such a tragic that he died way to early. Just imagine how different and happy Judy would be if her dad was there to support and encourage her. Hollywood didnt deserve judy, they only focus on the *beauties* (lana turner etc) and not the talent at that time. And Judy belittled herself, she was extremely beautiful and talented, she had it all those people only made her think she wasnt
