Good for him. He has kept his humility and integrity. His dad is a deadbeat dad. You don’t abandon your own kids no matter what. There is no excuse for that. All the while still singing and working but making his own son live in hunger. He is not only an amazingly talented actor, he’s kind and handsome too. His drama It’s Okay to Not Be Okay was my all time favorite Korean drama - just masterful. I wish him and his mother all the best. I think everybody has someone in their family who has questionable integrity, morals or conduct. We have a choice to not associate ourselves with those kinds of people whether they are relatives or not.
I wouldn't call his life tragic. He has a bad father, and a struggling single mother, that's a very large club. He has made something for himself and his mother, it's not tragic but commendable.

What a lovely soul. His father is despicable for abandoning his own child and wife. I am so glad that he surpassed his father in success because he deserves some happiness after a hard young life. He’s a great actor. My favourite show he was in are plenty, but my first one was Moon Embracing the Sun. The children in the drama were also really good and I am so happy to see them all grown and continues to act in their own shows.
His iconic og drama ‘ my love from the star’ was my 1st ever kdrama and what got me into the kdrama culture. He is one of the most in demand and wealthiest actor in SK, he deserves everything.

His father is a dirtbag. Period. Trying to re-write narrative, present himself as a selfless, hopeful parent. "Misunderstanding" is the oldest excuse. SH is the genuine thing beyond his many performing talents - a good man, diligent, humble, warm and honest. I wish him and his mother every happiness in this world, including his right to privacy. Ι don't know how true it is, but I read one article that Kim Soo Hyun helps support Dad, his mistress turned wife & daughter. If true, all I can say is he has a much bigger heart than I have. If my Dad abandoned me, he'd not be in my life. You can go on divorce your wife and still have regular contact with your children. After betrayal and dereliction of paternal duty (child support, etc) it's dandy to let his son know that he (the father) is available. What is clear is that his father wasn't 'available' through his and his poor mother's UNDISPUTABLE struggles at his most vulnerable years. In SoKo's tainted social norms of open bias against fatherless/motherless families and even exposure of a star's past along those lines could have possibly hurt his career. Only after one is well established does it become a badge of honor in overcoming adversity. What I do suspect is that as a gracious private person he is not blaming his half-sister for her existence, i.e. she didn't ask to be conceived, and may on occasion send something their way. One positive aspect of Hallyou wave is that Western nonchalance toward single parenthood, etc is adjusting archaic biases.

Regardless of who his father was, he obviously was not around when he left his wife and child alone, nor did he provide any support when it mattered. Just because his father was in the entertainment business, does not mean anything. A foot in the door, does make someone a success. If KSH was not a good actor, he would not have made it as far as he has.
But according to reports back then... his father reach out to him in 2012 and Soohyun did choose to mend his relationship w/ his dad (not his 2nd family just his dad). This is because no matter what he is still his father. KeyEast confirmed that father & son were trying to mend things so atleast we know that is true. Then around 2016 his dad did an interview and said that since he no longer have much work as musician, Soohyun support him and gave him monthly support. Although this just got him more hate from Knetz back then. 😅

Just the sister news was early 2016 while his dad interview was end of the year. In that interview his dad rebuke reports they aren't talking & said they already mended their relationship in 2012 and that Soohyun is even the one giving them monthly support since he no longer have much gigs as musician. Ofcourse all these just came from his dad but he did provide photos of him & Soohyun together back them is what seem like a vacation. So many Soohyun did forgive him. 🤷🏻♀️
A amazing actor who has over come life’s hurdles with humility,honor, and success. The fact that he allowed nothing deter him from his goal of success and is able to maintain his humbleness and his humanity is awe inspiring. Too often actors become egotistical and arrogant. His father can't call himself Kim Soo Hyun's father because he was in no way a father figure to Soo Hyun in any part of his life. It's just sickening that he would use his own son (only biologically, not in the father figure sense *I'm only emphasizing my point*) for publicity. To say that he hopes his song inspires parents around the world is beyond me. You can't call yourself a parent if you were never around for your child and you didn't try to do anything for them. You can't call yourself a parent, when through divorce (co-parenting), you didn't make the time to help his mom raise him, you flat out abandoned him and his mother. In no way, shape or form can he call himself a parent or father figure to Kim Soo Hyun. He's too pure to endure all this. Nice people really are taken advantage of and that's a sad fact. I rest my case.

I think he is the kindest, and most compassionate and caring actor. A very genuine person. There are quite a few video sharings of him rooting for other actors, being happy for others' success and buying things to show his care for his fellow colleagues. He has also done many charities to help those in need. Although he has suffered quite a lot in life, he has grown to be a respectable person in terms of his good character. His mum must surely be really proud of him. He is a good role model for many. He has made his life as meaningful as he can. ❤

Something’s you could never forget but he grew up very grounded. The pain he has kept inside has never broke him, since he had a goal to ensure his mother’s wellbeing. I hope he faces his demons and can truly be free of it. He’s not wrong that he is the only child to his mother, may not be to his father, that’s a private matter between him and his father. The word “tragic” can be misleading as title for this video. It turns out the actor had a rough and tough life growing up and I truly feel for him. But the best part about it was that he chose to do better for himself and his mum regardless of how difficult their circumstances had become. All that hardship, courage and tenacity rewarded him as one of the most outstanding actors of the kdrama world. It is always very sad when we hear of single parent households, since children need both parents to grow happy, healthy and productive lives. I'm always very impressed with people beating the odds and becoming successful due to their own hardwork and skills. Good luck to him and his mother to live a happy healthy life going forward.
children do not need both parents to grow. tons of marriages with useless fathers or mothers who are in name only. I see twenty families per year. the single parenting children came up just as good. all depends on how good and wise is your parenting. two different opinions will dissect a child's path. only one view and guiding light will help a child progress.
Correction : *2 healthy loving parents. As a Psych student who has a deadbeat Father I can attest that this mindset that both is needed no matter how toxic it is, is what breaks a child's soul the most.

Children pine for both father and mother from an early age and they need the influences of both to grow up psychologically healthy. I've just finished watching Kim Soo Hyun in My Love From the Star and was absolutely blown away by how amazing and charismatic an actor he is. I knew next to nothing about the show when I started watching it and totally fell in love with it, and am so happy to learn it did so well upon its release. A quick criticism of this video: at the 3 minute mark it goes into WAY more detail about his deadbeat father than I ever wanted to know, taking well-earned attention away from Kim Soo Hyun. What an amazing actor and impressive young man. Now I'm off to binge It's Okay to Not Be Okay and hope it's even half as good as MLFTS. :)
