Lee Majors is an American television actor that is best known for his titular lead performance on the 1970s action show The Six Million Dollar Man. Despite the invincible character that Lee became known for playing on the screen, the actor has not been without his vulnerable moments. Lee has had a dark cloud looming over him since childhood, leading to many tragic moments involving him even before the moment of his birth.

Lee’s father passed away only weeks before he was born, which was something that would have been bad enough on its own. However, tragedy continued when a drunk driver killed Lee’s mother when the young boy was only three years old. After Lee’s mother was killed, the boy was forced to go live with his aunt and uncle in Kentucky. Despite the tragic circumstances of their coming together, Lee’s makeshift family proved incredibly loving and helped the young boy overcome his tragic past.
More trouble came when a serious back injury put an end to Lee’s promising college football career. Lee had been such a great college athlete that he had even been considering becoming a football player professionally, but the back injury put an end to these hopes and dreams. Luckily, his college’s drama coach had taken a liking to Lee and encouraged him to take part in a theater production.
Lee ended up liking acting so much that he decided that was going to be his career instead. Lee was married and had a child at the time, and subsequently moved his family to Hollywood in hopes of striking it big. Lee’s wife ended up moving back to Kentucky with their child a year before Lee was given his first major break on television. Join Facts Verse as we reveal the tragic real-life story of Lee Majors.

My son (he’s 50 now) enjoyed those shows too. He also liked Charlie’s Angels. He collected the dolls from the Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman. He also collected cards of each of the Charlie’s Angels that I think came in bubble gum. (I was afraid he’d get teased at preschool but a lot of the other kids had “action figures” too.)

His dad owned a thriving car dealership and his mother worked a one of the banks in town. There are many pictures of him playing football for MHS. I am a huge fan of Lee Majors . Who didn't want to be The Six Million Dollar Man when they were a kid in that era and The Fall Guy was a great show too . As a die hard Western Cowboy fan , his role in The Big Valley was also iconic . Everything this actor did was awesome . He also made the myth of "Big Foot" a legend as well and look how relevant sightings of Big Foot creatures are today . True Hollywood legend himself . Lee , you made my childhood thrilling for sure . When all the other kids were crazy over super heroes like Superman and Batman , The Incredible Hulk and Wonder woman , The Six Million Dollar Man was my super hero .

The crash footage used in the pilot of the Six Million Dollar Man and its intro every episode was in fact a real crash. The crash of the M2/F2 occurred on May 10th 1967 and the pilot was Bruce A. Peterson, who was a US Marine Corp pilot who had transferred into the NASA test pilot program in 1962. Bruce survived the crash but suffered a fractured skull, several broken teeth, a number of broken bones and the front of his skull, (forehead) was peeled back exposing the skull bone, later requiring several plastic surgeries over a two year period. Peterson also lost sight in one eye due to infection settling in on the injured eye. He wore an eye patch in public for the rest of his life. He was in and out of the hospital for nearly two years for surgeries but in spite of this he returned to full duty after his recovery and flew until 1971. Peterson stated several times that he did not like his crash being televised every week on the Six Million Dollar Man and he could not bring himself to watch it.

The Six Million Dollar Man is in syndication today Cozi TV runs episodes. And it follows it's spin-off- "The Bionic Woman" Lee Majors is also rumoured to have detested the bionic sound effect. The crash in the opening was a real crash- the pilot walked away unharmed from what I heard.

Lee Majors was my first boyhood action hero. Followed by Sly Stallone and Big Arnie later on. But out of the three I will have to turn to Lee…why he had spiritual charisma that was missing with the other later two. I can see why Richard Anderson (Oscar) loved working with him.

I grew up in the 70's and I watched the 6 million dollar man religiously, he was my hero until I began studying martial arts seriously in 1980. Lee Majors was a gentleman. That was back in 1975 and 76. Now look at the world, it's turning to shit. Do not make the mistake of thinking that if a given behavior or activity was morally condemned back in the 60's and 70's and now it is championed that we are evolving. In most cases, looking to the past and to History we tend to make poorer choices the more time goes by. It was poor choices that led to the fall of the Roman and Greek Empires. Debauchery and "anything goes" type of attitude never ends well for those of us who make honest livings, it only serves the purposes of the very rich.

The actor stated in one interview he was adopted. Not sure how that played out with the statement he was cared for by his aunt in the clip.
