This is been my home park for years. I thought i305 would’ve changed it for the better when it first came out, I had no idea kings dominion would lose so much traction over the years! I remember when it used to be booming, and now with volcano gone, it just feel sad and a little bit neglected. The biggest thing that this is taught me, that it doesn’t matter how success or big a park, it can always fall apart. I do think they’re trying to build it back up, but I think they’re just taking their sweet time because of the huge debt they had to pay with i305. I don’t think all hope is lost yet, I just think they’re taking their time building new attractions so they don’t go in debt again.

I love that park so much!! I blacked out on I305 😂 Dominator was amazing Twisted Timber’s is absolutely amazing. I went a month or 2 ago and it was the best theme park experience I’ve ever had so far

I went to KD in 04. Very fun. Volcano was dope, hypersonic broke down, but i managed to get a ride, shockwave was a standup. So much potential.

As someone whose home parks are BGW and KD, I think the one major thing that will keep KD from ever being in the bottom tier with MG, WoF, Dorney, and Vallyfair is that it Isn't in the middle of no where. KD is close to Richmond and it will naturally have more people coming to the park than the ones in the bottom tier. I think Cedar Fair recognized this, and decided to go more conservative with KD. While we haven't gotten many major investments, Cedar Fair has taken really good care of KD. We got Twisted Timbers,They completely revamped the section where Twisted is, They've removed unpopular rides, We got Winterfest, and the Grand Carnival, We have track for an S&S free spin, Coconut Shores, and lots of general park improvements. I honestly doubt KD will become a priority park for Cedar Fair like KI or Carowinds, but Kings Dominion is no where near a lost cause.

Same here I really want to go to Kings Dominion for some reason, I305 and Twisted Timber’s are in my Top 5 Bucketlist coasters

The green coaster was the shockwave, it was a stand-up coaster that was removed shortly after the art was made, the drop tower has the wrong design. As for the other coasters you have a point on. I will say I do still love kings dominion, besides the change of the rebel yell name and the removal of the volcano and tornado I think it’s a great park, I really hope they make a fantastic successor to the volcano but it’s a shame they removed it I will say kings dominion does typically have the upper hand to BGW, it’s sad that they removed the volcano though, it’s something that probably really hurt KD. As long as they don’t remove the best ride Intimidator then they’ll be okay. As for the 0%, I would disagree with that, I went weekly on a weekday the season that twisted timber’s release and every single day the line went beyond the que.

I enjoy going to kings dominion, its always so neat and beautiful everytime I go. I went to six flags great adventure in New Jersey and man altho I had a lot of fun I enjoy KD a lot more.

I commented something similar on another video about KD, but it's really pretty common for Cedar Fair parks to have 2-4 really amazing coasters, and a bunch of decent/okay/bad supporting coasters. This is definitely the case with Carrowinds, Canada's Wonderland, CGA, and even arguably Knott's (although that one's kind of got a different vibe). I don't think Cedar Fair considers KD to be a failure, they're probably not adding a ton of rides to it because they don't think it desperately needs new rides right now. In fact it almost seems like they were catching Carowinds up to KD. Also despite what enthusiasts seem to believe, I don't think BGW necessarily blows KD out of the water in most people's eyes. I recently went to both parks for the first time with a group of (mostly GP) friends and almost all of them preferred KD's rides.

I’ve been on every ride at KD except Twisted Timbers and I can’t convince drive all the way down there to ride intimidator x5 and Twisted Timbers. Especially when i have never been to Hershey park and its the same distance away as KD.

Love the video. Keep up the great work. My note is that you talked about this concept art a ton but didn't make it clear where it was from or why it was significant other that something about cedar fair buying the park. Also would like a wish list/speculation for new standout addition. Like please cedar fair give us a gravity group shuttle, won't break the budget but will keep this park feeling fresh and not be a filler coaster. Kings Dominion will not be falling into the lowest tier anytime soon. Unlike the smallest parks (Michigan's Adventure, Valleyfair, Worlds of Fun, Dorney), the park does get good investments, however they come a lot less frequently than the largest parks.

Even though KD has more coasters, BGW is the better park in my opinion, because the coasters and rides there are all really nice and it has great scenery

I went in with high expectations for twisted timber’s but kinda got disappointed

"They can´t just build an Invert, they have to go to Vekoma or something" Given how great Hals über Kopf is I see this as an absolute win and a chance for Cedar Fair / Kings Dominion to get both a new partner to work with and an Invert that would be, at least for the time being, a unique Invert model that could offer a Lapbar only experience (or Vest restraints if CF wants to be stupid about this) with a Layout unlike any other Invert around. I mean, they can feature solid Airtime on their new Invert.

I only ride every parks 1-2 punch so KD is easily in my top 5

I went to kings dominion not to long ago and it rained during our visit so we lost an hour of play but we waited and it was worth it nobody was there and we got to go on all the rides like dominator twisted timber intimidator and I thought those were great coasters

The little info you know is crazy but I got you. The wood one is the grizzly it’s an og, the green one was the shock wake it was taken out, the yellow and blue one is dominator, there are 2 launch coasters black out stunt coaster which isn’t as extreme and the other is an indoor si-fi themed launch coaster (a personal favorite) the purple coaster is truly unknown but this is an older photo where twisted Timbers was not built yet and a few rides have been taken out.

The most tragic thing about KD is I never managed to get on Volcano :'(

The investment they made for I-305 ruined the park. As someone who has had KD as their home park for 17 years... I love the ride, but in a certain way, I hate it. Ever since I-305 flopped so hard with the GP, Cedar Fair was hesitant to make any big investments into the park again. KD was known as the "Volcano" park for so many years even AFTER I-305... and then when they took out Volcano, I know several people who literally told me "oh, they took out Volcano? Well, guess I'm not going back to that park again!" You hit the nail right on the head: it's truly tragic. The crazy thing was that BGW was getting their asses KICKED by KD until I-305 happened. Everyone at my school thought of KD as the "cool" park with all the craziest rides, and thought of BGW as the "family" park that had a few coasters but was more boring. But Verbolten was a smash hit and I-305 was a total flop... and the rest is history.

I believe the green coaster is meant to be shockwave, I may be wrong, but they colored it that exact color in its later years.

I’ll have to stand up for kings dominion. Way back in the early 2000s, the one in VA wasn’t very well cared for. There was trash left everywhere, safety wasn’t a big concern, and all around it wasn’t a family place. After new owners took over, they completely changed everything. It’s spotless now, they focus more on safety, and actually care for their customers.

When my mom lived in Virginia before she had children, she went to Kings Dominion to visit her cousin that worked there. Suddenly, one time, she heard a really loud thump. Someone committed suicide by jumping off a replica of a building ☹️🙏.

Maybe instead of a standard B&M hyper coaster, what about they add a B&M hyper wing coaster (Examples of wing coasters: Wild Eagle, Gatekeeper)

That green one was the stand up coaster they used to have, the green and red one used to be the colors for the Anaconda, that wooden one looks like the hurler (which is now twisted timbers). And ofc the dominator and intimidator. I'm pretty sure all of those rides are in the park or at least were at one point some are just a bit exaggerated, other than the purple one im not sure about that. Edit: the volcano was removed after it had caught on fire during a test run or something of the sort.

A month ago I had a chance to go and I chose a second day at BGW and I’m salty. I was so hyped to go on pantheon again I passed up twisted Timbers, i305, tumbili yeah you get the point. I will always stay mad.

KD definitely isn’t the best park, not even by a long shot, but it holds a place it my heat as my favorite park. I have vivid memories Anaconda when I was younger having the time of my life.

Unrelated, but I have a hypothesis that the feeling I got when I rode El Loco at Adventuredome 7 years ago (the almost falling out of my seat feeling during the inversions which is what made my not ride coasters with lap bars and inversions) is just airtime, but upside down, since you get several negative G’s when undergoing ejector airtime but only one positive G when hanging upside down. Is that true?

Kings dominion is a legacy park with hypersonic xlc without hypersonic xlc no ka no excalerator no dragster volcano easily the best invert ever it’s so sad see the park either away when they need a major edition and seeing how anadaconda grizlly and flight of fear expiration dates are closing in they need something to replace those soon

I'm not sure how much they decided to remove volcano as opposed to it simply broke. I guess in the end they did decide to remove it but if fixing it would cost more than getting a new coaster, its semantics at that point.
