When it comes to Gords vocals, I would disagree with anyone who says that he doesn't deliver as well live vocally. I found him to be very consistent. On the other hand the quality of the recording of many of their live shows coupled with his rants left some people thinking he sounded better in studio mostly because they could understand what he was saying. I think he's got pretty good range and rarely misses pitch unless he wants to and is the perfect front man. I can see your point for the simplicity of the songwriting. For me, the connection to The Hip, has always been about lyrics, live performance, and Canadian pride. RIP Gordie.
I think this is more than just another blues track. But I am a fan. The guitar work is great, and Gord's delivery of the lyrics really works well. Looking forward to the next one. Hey North, You're South so shut your big mouth You got to do what you feel is real.
The lyrics in this one hint at their quirky potential that comes out later (I forget the song, but the vid was a bunch of workers in an office setting)
I can see why Justin, as a musician who is certainly not unfamiliar with the stage, would really appreciate the live stuff. I also get the sense that the thing he likes most about the Hip is vibe, which also reveals itself better live.
This song is all about its potential as a live song … they found a way to turn it into an event everytime live (especially in the early years). You just said this, as I typed it. I like the way you think
