I did the same exact thing in the early 70'2 after Nam, had the same horse problem, and had a mule with me also. I did the Pacific NW trail, the first time I tried but failed, and planned wrong. The following year completed it.... praise God. Yes, I came back a different person...after the war,I need that, changed me for the better. Semper- Fi.

Number one I am a retired fish and wildlife officer from Alaska and I can guarantee you if a man is starving the hunting laws do not apply. Number two you actually have to kill something to break a law to begin with, I'm thinking behind the scenes The producer slips you a sandwich in your sleeping bag along with the hot hands😮. And certainly a sack of cracked corn for seven.

Support crew does not automatically mean food or shelter. It does mean more for him to ultimately consider/worry about than himself & his horse. Honesty is a major part of survival & filming survival, as it happens, when it happens. There are enough of us that know about real life survival to help keep most of these survival shows fair & square. If you don't think it's on the up & up don't watch. There are plenty of others to watch. I am enjoying & identifying with this trip enough to want to see more from Laramy.❤

It really blows my mind with so many rules on what/how you have to hunt in the middle of nowhere. Wasn't like that growing up for me. If it passed on my land of 80 acres then it was fair game. And we ate dear, rabbit, wild turkey, beaver, and snake. No rules. Mind you we also had a very big garden and other farm raised animals to eat as well. We only killed what we needed to live. And we always ate what we killed and tanned the hides, dogs got the bigger bones. Good way to grow up.

I can’t believe you don’t have a blanket on 7 and have brought him into the Lepanto with you. You’d both be warmer! And if you start at the bottom and hang your limbs frond down layered to the top like shingles you’d also be warmer and drier. Also you could’ve tied the rope so you could dry your clothes and use them for wind breaks while they dry. This is my first time watching and it’s beautiful country. Good luck hunting.

This guy can challenge himself however he likes, but I wish he'd wouldn't say that he's doing it the way the origanal mountain men did. Right from the get go "I'm not gonna have a gun out there." Every mountain man story I've ever heard they at minimum had a musket and as much black powder and lead that they could carry. The other big one was something along the lines of hoping he could find some going out there to keep his knives sharp. People back then didn't leave home with out having a flint and steel to start a fire with, both of which can be used to sharpen a knife.

The mountain men utilised what was available at the time. They even learned from and utilised accoutrements the Indians had. I’m certain it was a constant learning process of trial and error. Without question, they were tough and rugged men who blazed trials into the unknown wilds. We can never fully duplicate their lives, but we can have fun reenacting what portions of their lifestyle are possible. I’m an IronHorse mountain man. I blend the old with the new while riding my two-wheeled Horse named Old Lady Harley. Let’s not be too harsh on Sasquatch. He’s having a good time.

I watched this last year once and I'm watching it again on my breaks from working on some of my lifelong dreams. At my age (72), I suppose you might say it's one of the items on my bucket list, but with a strong body, good health, the grace of God and a degree in mastering old school larnin', I am (and I say this under my breath) finally in a place where I feel I can act on them. I used to work for a man in North Idaho who trained horses. Then we would ride them ten miles up the mountain to fine tune them for what this handsome feller (okay, you too) is doing right here. We saw BIG cat prints, moose and elk dropping and evidence of bears in the hood. They're all up there just 20 miles from the B.C. border. When we reached the top, we could see all over creation including Canada. That's one of many I can tic off my list; smiling from ear to ear! But for now it's pause and back to making another one happen. Until later, the absolute best to you and yours! Don't stop what you're doing! Peace out, Naomi🌹

May or may not be something but he called pine bows "pine brows". He said it at least twice so apparently that's what he calls them which, to me, indicates inexperience. Along with all the other indicators that you pointed out, I don't think he's as genuine as he makes out to be. I agree, telling the truth is the foundation to any real man. Start lying and you lose all respect.

@@dontfearthereaper9528 Yeah, I noticed that too “pine brows or broughs”, but It’s “pine boughs.” I think he maybe has a desire to portray a mountain man, but you have to be authentic and truthful. He has a lot of “Hollywood” fluff added to his videos. That might be ok for him, but I prefer the simple straight forward approach. Oh well, to each his own…

I would've brought an older horse 10+ years w/the youngster to help teach him to stay calm. Also, how will you pack out an elk or moose?

I'm so grateful that you showed me how to do all this stuff, including starve for 13 days. Might just try that first, LOL, but no seriously I enjoyed the tanning and the smokehouse and the cabin and also how to take care of 7. I'm so thankful!

I noticed the arrow took all the feathers off the Grouse and nothing to the neck and did nothing to the squirrel. He never misses. I’ve seen professional hunters miss but he is better then they are.

@@kimbishop8217 very true. Most of the state votes republican. Only the big cities vote Democrat. But they make up the biggest percent of the population. So we get Democrat politicians. Portland will never recover.

My 23 year old mare ive had over twenty years is overcoming an eye irritation safely in pasture with her horse keeping her company who she still bosses. I dreamed of just getting on and going in order to finish what I started in my relationship with my first horse. Just go and deal with whatever mood (mare) and unexpected situation together with safety highest on my list of priorities. Its my biggest regret I wasn’t able to do that. I would have been happy with 4 hours! I cared for my old dad so I had to be sensible. I lived solo and had dogs and cats too plus my mares pasture mate. I wasn’t afraid. I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. But anyway. We all have a main regret dont we?
