In many episodes of Thomas and Friends, they used a sound effect from "The Train" from 1964. Its a really good war movie if you want to see great shots of real trains. Let us know if we missed any!
It’s really nice to see how the world of Thomas has a huge connection to the world of cinema from title references, music and of course the sound effects!
Seasons 1 through 3 used old 1920's recordings used for The French Connection (1971), Chattanooga Choo Choo (1984) and the most famous, Emperor Of The North (1973). The one here used for The Train (1964) was recorded back in the 40s.
One an engine, attached to a *NOTHING* Heard the wurr of the nazi planes. With a squeak of its funnel, it went into a tunnel, and waited till it was safe again.
James was puffing smoothly INTIL a spitfire was chasing behind him! James picked up speed and SLAMED his brakes and flew into a tunnel and stopped safely in a tunnel.
Did you know that in the books and by extension the show, the only reason why they get put back together when they crash is because they’re all famous? Rev. Audrey’s books canonically saved the entire cast from being outmoded with the rest of Great Britain’s steam engines, and subsequently dismantled. Gordon actually had an arc where he mourns the loss of his “brothers” on the mainland.
O_O dang... I did not actually know this, I used to watch so much classic model thomas and friends episodes a lot as a kid. Learning a new thing every day :D I found it highly intriguing how real train effects are used in this great series making real world connections.
I think drivers in crash Scenes were the Narrator says "So *engine Name here*'s driver applied the brakes but it was too late!" wait until the Moment to Brake late, so The engine Crashes

fun fact:I have noticed the sound is also used in the 1970 war film "tora! tora! tora!" during a scene where a P40 (if im correct) skids across the runway during the raid scenes
the one good thing about the wrecks and trying to stop is that this really shows to how long and how heavy the trains really are and they take a long time to stop
You forgot Toby's Triumph (Season 11) - This scene is where the red signal stopped and Henrietta bumped into Toby and all of the cakes and tea fell onto the floor.
