"It's a casual train vlog" - that's not just what I'm here for, it's what I stan. I *LOVE* a casual train vlog. Add both a funicular & and an incline railway, a special guest, and a trip down to the water? And some infrastructure as well? This is premium grade Downie Live Love! This is 100% what I follow for, your raw & infectious enthusiasm for this sort of trip.
The classic DownieLive video: visit to an interesting place by train with a special guest and a bathroom tour. Ticked all the boxes and was a masterpiece. Such a nice way to start the weekend, a little trip with Mike. I don't know where you are going next week, but I am already looking forward to coming along.
Eyyyy DownieLive finally made a video in Toronto! Welcome back to Ontario! I always watch RMtransit as well, and take the GO a lot since I'm from Toronto
@TransportGallery which GO Line do you take to Downtown? I take the Stoufville Line from my home Kennedy GO or I take a bus down to Eglinton GO and take the Lakeshore East Line. I wonder if you have been on any other GO Line. I know I have been on every single GO Line except for the Richmond Hill and Kitchner unless the UP Express Counts.
@@miguel.adv_ Perhaps you can take the Kitchener Line to London for $30. That's how much it costs to go just ONE WAY Adult fare from Downtown to London, Ontario. It's an extra $2.50 from what it used to cost to ride the UP Express from Union to Pearson International when premier Kathleen Wynn Built it. I am hoping with this Trudeau coming back, he wakes up to smell the Coffee and invest's in more Transit for Ontario by providing more routes to Pearson International because many people land here at Pearson than any other International Airport in Canada. Sorry, Mike, but you don't claim Top Spot for Busiest International Aiport in Canada.
Having grown up with GO trains I really appreciated the insight. Did not know those details about it. Very interesting. It was so empty when you were on it. If you go during rushhour it is much busier. Also, during that time the upper level is a quiet zone. This makes great a bribe when taking kids to the R.O.M. They always want to ride in the top but they only can if they are quiet. On the ride home we look for the accessible car. The reason being that this is where they announce the stop locations from. Which is also fun for the kids and gives them the chance to ask questions. Love Niagara Falls. Thanks for sharing this video.
I was there at The Niagara Falls... Romantically Powerful and Gorgeous...This time will never missed The Train that usable for the trip of Niagara Falls and it's the fact that The Train Powered by Niagara Falls due to I've seen the most people coming along the way by that as well...💖
I'm not a regular on the GO train, but have used it to get downtown from Mississauga, Pickering and Oakville. Always during rush hours. PACKED. I mean PACKED!!! Maybe COVID changed that with so many working from home now, but WHEW! That empty GO train looked SOOO inviting! I love that ride - packed or not!
@@JLFRuppent I'm Australian so I never used Go but Sydney has these types of trains which also get packed in rush hour. I wished Melbourne had them our trains are single and always packed
Wasn’t mentioned here but the bi level concept was pioneered by GO transit. It is now used all over the world based on GO’s own idea. They still use many of the first bi-level cars on the system today.
I’m glad you got to the falls, Michael. I’ve lived in the Niagara region all my life and spent a considerable amount of time in Niagara Falls, including fishing down at the Niagara Gorge. I hope you enjoyed your visit!
The WEGO buses are great to get around Niagara Falls. Especially to the attractions that are outside the tourist area. And the Green Line will take you from the train/bus station right to the Table Rock Visitor Centre. There are a couple of stops along the way that will let you off a short walk from the hotels near Casino Niagara and Clifton Hill and you can take the Inclined Railway to the hotels on the Fallsview Casino side. Probably not ideal if you're a family with kids and a lot of luggage, but if you're a couple or traveling alone with a small rolling bag or a backpack it's great...and cheaper than a taxi. It's also worth mentioning that most of the hotels charge a lot for on site parking, so if you can get to Niagara on the train or train and bus combo you're going to save a considerable amount of money if you're staying for a few days. Great video, my girlfriend and I LOVE going to The Falls. We make a trip there part of any trip we take to Ontario.
Welcome to Niagara Falls! I am from Niagara Region. I have been following your videos for a while now, and I absolutely love all of them. Wish one day I can travel around like you!
My first time travelling abroad was to Toronto, Canada from May 1993 to July 1993 and I travelled on the Go Train to Downtown Toronto at the waterfront on Canada Day to watch the fire works. I really like Canada.
Holy smokes, I didn't know Niagara Falls had a funicular and incline railway, we visited in 2014 and we took a jet boat tour of Niagara Falls, the tour guide did mention it, but we never saw it. The next time we go back, we'll definitely go check it out, thank you very much for this special vlog Mike, much appreciated
Hello Mike! How are you? I ONLY could watch your Niágara falls vídeo today, i think it is, as usual, very Nice and i found myself so happy by knowing all about it😀 Thanks again🙏 See you soon!!
1. Vancouver's own West Coast Express - about which you've never done a video, BTW - uses cars very similar to those GO uses. One car of each WCX train used to have a coffee bar - nice for a good "cuppa cap" in the Big V - but those disappeared some time before COVID. GO developed the cars in the 1970s because they needed more capacity than the old single-level cars offered. They were built at Thunder Bay by, successively, Hawker Siddeley Canada, CanCar Rail-UTDC, Bombardier, and now Alstom. 2. Vancouver has double-deck buses very similar to those GO uses, as does Ottawa. 3. I was on the "Maid of the Mist" once, on my own visit to Niagara Falls in 2010. I went all the way there and back by GO train, on a Sunday. The "Maid of the Mist" was also featured briefly in the 2003 movie "Bruce Almighty". 4. IDKWYGNBIKIBTWY.
3:55 you don’t understand the pain we go through to try to open those sliding doors and then Reece just breezes through it like nothing 😭. I didn’t even know about the fact that there was a sensor there even though i ride the train almost every day.
Hi. I’m new to your channel. Looks like you had a great time visiting the falls. I live near the falls …it never gets boring to see it! Thanks for sharing this fun adventure!👍. Have a wonderful day.😊🇨🇦
Tip from a local: taxis in the area are EXTREMELY overpriced - plan ahead to get from the train station to the falls! If you have a Niagara Parks adventure pass, you'll have access to the WeGo busses, which has a stop either right at the bus terminal, or at the end of the road down on the parkway (5 min walk max) and will connect you to all the major attractions! Green line should run by the GO bus station, and can take you to where you were dropped off, at Table Rock.
Thanks for posting this! We are traveling from Niagara Falls to Toronto and haven’t figured it out yet. We’re in NF Monday thru Thursday and Toronto for a few days following NF.
Hey Mike, I got to go to Niagara in the summer of 2019, being from Prince Edward Island the go train was my first ever train ride because we don’t have them here. Such a great trip hope to make it back there again once the restrictions ease!
As a train buff, I miss the line that ran across the top of Clifton Hill. It had its own (now-abandoned) bridge right beside the currently-used train bridge which goes to the States. I understand, in the old days, the train would stop so passengers could see the falls.
Wow he's really cute lol Love his free and energetic spirit! Even if he's by himself! It's really cool to see that you can enjoy your own company as well as with others :) I'm so aching to head back to niagara and I've been a few times on the go train! So peaceful and pleasant the rides there is!
Wish I would have known you were here. I’m 10 mini outside Niagara Falls. If you ever come back this way, Mike, hit me up. Lots more to show you outside of the typical spots. Excellent content. Keep it up!
Standing at the Table Rock at Niagara Falls is one of my fave things! ANY weather, ANY temp, including frozen and icy. Best time for me was April as the tourism wasn't heavy duty at that time. It looked pretty sparse for this, too. Great opportunity.
Niagara Falls....always great times there, even in winter...yes, it's fun in winter too. The CN Tower....where my friend wouldn't go near the glass floor panels. Annoyed her no end when I jumped up and down on them (not a small guy...lol). Did not know there was a train to Niagara from Toronto....but I've made that drive several times and yes, once you're away from Toronto...the scenery is pretty cool. So far, the only place I've crossed an international border on foot....parked on the NY side and walked over the Rainbow Bridge, had dinner and by the time I walked back to the US, the cool light show was underway. The Skylon tower is nice....but it's no CN Tower. Haha. Looking forward to the next video!!
The ultimate Canada vlogger collab! Love the both of you guys and I watch your videos religiously from (currently) Japan. I haven't been back home to Toronto in years and I love seeing how much it's changed and not changed. Keep it up, you two!!
2:47 leaving the Port Credit GO going past the Credit River, the Mississauga Canoe Club and the Rowing Club, next stop Clarkson (3:02). (The area I grew up in.)
Awesome video and collab w/ RMTransit. Can't say I've ever done the Hornblower, but it's something I'm hoping to be able to do before I move west to Vancouver. Pre-covid you also could do a tour behind the falls. Would be interesting to hear your take on the Westcoast Express and how it compares to the GO.
This video bring back memories of before covid I'd go on vacation to Niagara Falls Canada almost 3 or 4 times a year. I'd take the Go Bus to Burlington Ontario then take the Go Train to Union Station in Toronto. This the only part of Canada I've been too. I had plans on going to Montreal and Ottawa then Covid ruined my job and finances so no plan just hope and dream now. Thank you great video viewer from Pennsylvania USA
During weekdays there is one express train on each direction ( morning = Niagara -> Toronto, Afternoon = Toronto -> Niagara ) during weekends there are three to four trains in each direction.
One of my all-time favourite things to do is to visit Niagara Falls while in the area! Usually drive myself there every time. Last time I was there I did the Niagara SkyWheel...that was pretty cool with some great views! Take great care now and have a wonderful week! Bruce and Otis
I am eagerly waiting for Amtrak to resume service to Canada. To visit Niagara Falls, I usually take Amtrak to Toronto and then an excursion bus to the Falls. Now I know how to get to Falls using Toronto's public transit system.
Besides this being a really nice trip to Niagara Falls, its pretty obvious that Mike, and TheDownieLive Channel, is finally breaking out of the local trips he was taking us on during this whole Covid nightmare and he's getting ready to take us with him, "albeit virtually," on some really amazing travels and this casual trip to the Falls was just a taste of what is to come! Thanks for bringing us along on your travels Mike! ♥♥♥
Glad you made it to my neck of the woods! So happy you had a great time. Love your videos and loved you loving Toronto. Oh, and so Canadian how you said sorry to the bathroom door lol.
I've been living in Vancouver for 20+ years but haven't had a chance to visit Toronto and Niagara Fall. I hope one day in near future, I'd be able to see all this in person. 😍 Thank you for today's video!
You should definetly come and visit Ontario we have Transit Networks like you have never seen before. From the TTC to MiWay to Brampton Transit and ZUM to Dhuram Regional Transit to YRT and everything Inbetween. Also, GO Transit takes just about anywhere within the GTHA short for Greater Toronto Hamilton Area.
You crammed so much into this one!I loved it.Niagara Falls looks spectacular. The front seat on some double decker buses have no leg room,so I’d be happy with the second row.
❤️ taking the GO train from Toronto Pearson Airport directly into downtown Toronto. It’s the only sensible (and least expensive) way to get between the two. Never have to worry about traffic delays either 😉👍🏻
The "Via Rail" service between Niagara Falls, Ontario and Toronto was actually the beginning/end of Amtrak's New York City / Toronto service on the Maple Leaf. When the train was in Ontario, it was operated by a Via Rail crew but all of the equipment was Amtrak's.
Yeah 😥 Headed to St Catherine's , On. Gotta get of at Aldershot, On. My Sister or niece picks me up. Used to go to Thur St Catherine's to Niagara Falls ✌️🙏🏻👍🏻🇨🇦 I'm a Detroiter 🇺🇸
Im watching this on June 16, 2024 and currently at 2146 Train 63 The Maple Leaf is just arriving at Niagara Falls and has a projected arrival in Toronto Union Station as VIA Train 98
FYI for everyone the Via/Amtrak service is now back. Once a day, seven days a week departing Toronto, Union Station 8:20, arriving Niagara Falls (Ont.) 10:20. Departing Niagara Falls (Ont.) 17:45, Arriving Toronto, Union Station 19:43.
This was lovely! My husband and I took our honeymoon to Niagara Falls. As Americans I specifically wanted to go and honeymoon on the Canadian side. I’m so glad we did! (I had never been to the falls nor to another country). We went in October 2019, who knew right be covid. Our first vacation after we can travel again is to go to Toronto and take the train down to the Niagara :)
My wife and I went to Niagara Falls in 2019 and stayed in the hotel just behind the funicular at Table Rock. We didn’t even have to get out of bed for an incredible view! We got to ride both funiculars. If (when) you go back, be sure to ride the Spanish Aerocar on a cable over the whirlpool at the end of the gorge, a thrilling ride that’s over 100 years old. Actually, I can hardly believe I did that. A hidden gem is the cat 6 whitewater rapids in the gorge, nearly as spectacular as the falls themselves but much fewer people see them (you have to buy a ticket for about $10, then you go down an elevator and thru a pedestrian tunnel that comes out right by the river at the bottom of the gorge). Just an amazing area, and not just because of the falls. It’s a long trip from California but I’m looking forward to returning once we start traveling again. One other note, when Metrolink started here in Los Angeles in the 1990s, at first they were using old Toronto Go Transit bilevel cars since they didn’t have their own equipment yet. They didn’t bother repainting them, so for several years the “highway green” trains were a familiar sight around here.
Mike, your videos are still so supremely edited, and your energy keeps me coming back. This video did not disappoint. I had not a clue about the heavy rail "GO" system in Toronto. I think that is so smart! The last time I was in Toronto, a friend took me to Niagara Falls and (now my ignorance is showing) I was HORRIFIED to learn that the famous part of the falls sits inside Canada and not the U.S. Then he took me to a place where we could see over to the U.S side of the falls which was a mere toilet flush compared with that of the Canadian side. I was so disgusted 😂. Unfortunately, we did not wind up taking a boat ride underneath the falls, but it was still beautiful to witness for the first time. Sorry to change topics, but about 3 weeks ago I took a Princess cruise to Alaska. I thought it would have been so fun to go with a travel vlogger such as yourself. Passengers were mainly comprised of people 60 and older, but for me, that made it all the more relaxing. Lots to do in Alaska, and certainly lots of magnificent beauty to see. Traveling by ship or by train is so incredibly exciting to me, I just thought I'd share. Thanks again for another most excellent video, Mike! Scott
Enjoy the video Mike made many visits to Niagara Falls great place…but is it only myself but confused a little last video your down east now in Toronto…no videos on that part of Canada…🤔
