These setpieces were great. But if the open world was excluded, WAY more people would be angry. Everyone was banking on the world map aspect returning. Not gonna please everyone unfortunately. I personally like the open world stuff, reminds me of how Xenoblade does it.

@@Ultinarok47 You're very right. I think the open world was indeed necessary and good. The problem I had with it is what they did with it. It was simply repetitive and each zone had the same tedious stuff to do. Only the protorelic stuff was different each time and actually engaging. The open world in rebirth in terms of activities don't respect your time and are forgettable. So whilst the open world is amazing in terms of arriving in the new zone and seeing this big expanse, they fumbled in other ways. But tbh I can't think of any open world done well ever. A good example was Metal Gear Phantom Pain, which had open world which turned out to be completely useless too.

@Bahamut3525 I think they were trying to avoid padding out each region with new tasks since it would make the areas seem too daunting to bother with for many players. An itemized list that is consistent across all areas makes it easy to know how complete each region is, what you need to look for, and what your prizes will be for succeeding. I agree that it feels artificial for each region to have 6 Lifesprings, 3 shrines, 6 towers etc. But its to streamline the exploration so you know "X is complete, Y is complete, I'm done here." At least the phenomenon intel and the monster battles were different of course.

@@Ultinarok47 Personally, I think making each area with a unique set of activities would have made it less repetitive. What I find extremely EXHAUSTING in a game is not the LENGTH of a game, but how that time is used. If the activities are repetitive, I get mentally exhausted quickly. In Rebirth, I feel exhaustion once I've 100% a single zone and need sometimes one full week off the game before I motivate myself to go and do the next zone. I think once I did grasslands and Junon, fatigue set in. I'm nearly completed with the game, but that playthrough was nowhere near as pleasant as Remake part 1. However, I will play the game on hard, and maybe if I ignore the side stuff this time, it might be less annoying. Lets see.

@Bahamut3525 I personally really enjoyed the open world if only because of music, characters, story etc. If it wasn't FF7, I'd probably agree with you a bit. I give it a pass on that notion, and really the only burnout I've felt after 160 hours or so is minigame burnout since I'm 100% the whole game. Which means A LOT of doing well at minigames. Would actually prefer some of these items be locked to world exploration instead of minigames sometimes lol
