After getting the storm damage on our roof at home repaired we are keen to get away again in the little red camper. We decide to head for the Lake District.
After spending a lovely night with Stew & Jane (check out their channel - Getaway Geese) we head off to explore the historic town Bridgnorth in Shropshire.
We park up for a rest at Wenlock Edge then go in search of shelter from Storm Dudley in Ironbridge. Future episodes will explain why we were defeated.

When I was a teenager back in the 1970s, I worked on clearing out those furnaces. They were a fascinating piece of technology. They had enormous bellows driven by a water wheel to provide the air to the blast furnace. The water reservoir was on the hill above. There was a steam engine which pumped the water from the river (reason for the location) up into the reservoir. The reason for this complicated arrangement was to prevent the possibility of the bellows stopping working during the smelting process which would mean the iron solidifying inside the furnace and effectively meaning thing would have to be rebuilt.

We live close to Bridgnorth and Ironbridge. Next time you visit you should go and have a look at the steam railway at Bridgnorth. Even when there are no trains running there is an old pub with an open fire and they are often working on the trains so there is something to see. Ludlow isn’t far from there and that is lovely, nice walks by the rivers.

There's quite a few old cave dwellings in the town. Some were lived in right up until the 20th century, by all types of people. A friend of mine has a big cave in his back garden, it's the biggest "room" on his property! By the way the ones shown here are on the opposite side of the river to the ones where the unfortunate accident mentioned in the video happened.

I agree about road closed signs too Ken. The turning or spot you're looking for, may well be before the actual road closes. (i think they should put a distance to closure on those signs).......Also, if its on country lanes, it may well be an old sign left by the workmen, or even perhaps its only closed between working hours and is open again in the evenings.

Mind you, my old legs would struggle with all that up and down nowadays. I saw someone being moved on from that park up (exPawers maybe? it was a few weeks back) by rangers concerned about the flooding. It might have been the earlier storm than Dudley... anyway - am now anxious to see the next episode here!!! YAM xx

Another great video. It's been years since I visted that area. I remember eating those as a child and thought they were really yucky 🤮. Some relatives had moved from Wales to Lancashire and decided to cook us a dish that was popular in Wales. Never had the urge to try them since especially once I knew what they contained🤣

Another lovely video. Our local butcher here in Gloucestershire makes his own fagots. Apparently they are excellent. I always feel a bit of a fraud when I go to buy then as 1) I am vegetarian, but the butcher thinks I am buying then for the family and 2) I buy then as a treat for my dog, but he is family but definitely not vegetarian :)

Another interesting and informative video. Your clip date problem had me go check my own Osmo Action and sure enough, the date set was an hour out from the date recorded! I linked up to the DJI Mimo app (which I almost never use) and that seemed to correct the problem. Must be something to do with daylight saving time, but odd that that can't be addressed in the camera!

As you said that’s a typical example of why a closed road isn’t necessarily completely closed. Just because a side road is closed doesn’t mean the whole route is closed, I wish the councils could put out better signage to say that. That sign should have read “a road closed ahead” not “road closed” I bet loads of people have made long unnecessary detours when like you they could have got through ok.

Are you going to do a cookbook please? Your van seems to be the ideal size or would you prefer something bigger. I'm thinking of downsizing from a 6m van. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Love following your travels
@LifeistooshortCK
@LifeistooshortCK 2 года назад
I doubt we will ever do a cookbook Alex. We have some Q&A videos coming soon, 1st one this Wednesday where we discuss the van. We sacrifice a lot of comforts for the ability to get under any barrier and be able to park almost anywhere. That was our priority and deliberate choice coming from a large comfy caravan. Only you know if you can do without those comforts 👍

@@LifeistooshortCK I think your van is ideal, but perhaps I'm being idealistic. A dry, warm tent on wheels is effectively what you have. My van, has a shower that is rarely used, 2 sinks which is ridiculous and a fixed bed. You suffer with storage. Your mpg must be better than mine. What is your rfl please? Perhaps that will be answered on Wednesday..

Blocking those caves is actually a disservice, it's adventures like that during childhood that makes men. I was in a chat last night with a bunch of late teen early 20's boys, very odd reading their conversation they have no sense of adventure and view the outdoors with a sense of dread.
@LifeistooshortCK
@LifeistooshortCK 2 года назад
I would normally agree with your view but apparently the kids lit a fire inside and the heat caused the roof to collapse. Knowing that could happen again left them with no choice I think. I suppose they could have placed warning signs but once it’s dark they are pretty useless.

@@LifeistooshortCK yeah, we had old limestone caverns and actual man made caves from mining limestone for concrete where I grew up in Missouri. We went in those hundreds of times even driving in the mined out caves, but I don't think we ever even considered lighting a fire. Live and learn :) .
