Hey Warren, I have a suggestion that I think would be completely out of the norm, but might be amazing: Enya! Not only a tremendous musical talent, but she does some super wizardry in the studio to produce those haunting and ethereal vocals! Anyway, great vid for the absolute beasts Iron Maiden!

@@Producelikeapro, while "Iron Maiden" was breaking new ground started by "Black Sabbath" I disagree that they have good songs or really helped heavy metal. For that "Black Sabbath" was the ground breaker and "Led Zeppelin" though I certainly wouldn't call most of the latter's songs really heavy metal popularized listening to it. "Iron Maiden" broke new ground making heavy metal more fast paced. "Megadeath" or "Metallica" would be the ones who took fast paced into the realm of people really knowing about it. KISS may have been famous heavy metal after "Black Sabbath" but they weren't as fast paced. These are my thoughts, though I might have forgotten some bands worth mentioning. I guess I'd love to hear someone's top five songs by "Iron Maiden" only in the sense maybe I should be forced to hear five songs from start to finish which are considered their best, but this song absolutely sucked in my book. I can't think of a good one they had.
@ReligionOfSacrifice
@ReligionOfSacrifice Год назад
I guess the other thing I'd love to ask for is the top five shredding songs. I think Eddie Van Halen shredding sounds like a song, but I don't think Steve Vai has the same ability to make shredding sound like a cool song. Certainly, these idiots in Iron Maiden never shredded anything that sounds good, but I'd love someone to offer up five songs with shredding by them and give the minutes of beginning and end of it so that I could evaluate it. Maybe I'd change my mind, but I doubt it.

I don’t know how many of you noticed this, but Bruce Dickinson‘s vibrato is sort of an “above zero“ vibrato. That means many people use the vibrato type where they go down and then back up to the note, down and then back up to the note, etc. However, Bruce goes UP, and then back DOWN to the note. You can hear it if you listen for it.

BIG goosebumps watching this Warren! This band are 100% the reason I picked up a guitar in 1982 and spent the next 6 years learning every guitar part from their first 7 albums. They are one the reasons why I'm in my home recording studio tonight, over 40 years later. The first time I seen them live, on The World Slavery Tour at Glasgow Apollo in 1984, my friend and I had our tickets autographed by Steve Harris and Dave Murray, in the alley by the backstage door of the Apollo, along with a crowd of 100 or so others who were lucky enough to catch them entering for the soundcheck. Steve and Dave signed autographs for everyone and were beyond cool. Delighted, we made our way down the hill to Glasgow Central Station, for a bite before the gig. Who passed us in the street outside the old Odeon cinema? Bruce Dickinson himself! He was hot-footing it to the Apollo, along with a couple of tour manager types. We stopped dead in our tracks, then ran after him. He was already well on his way to being a worldwide rock star by then - and could have quickly signed his autograph then made off, but he stood there in the middle of Renfield Street and chatted to us, two spotty teenagers, for at least 5 minutes - mainly us gushing about how incredible we thought Powerslave was! He was incredibly gracious and down-to-earth. A life-changing experience. Every guy in that band, past and present, is a living legend and deservedly so. I'm taking my 15-year old daughter to her first gig in 6 weeks - yep, you guessed it - Iron Maiden at Glasgow OVO. We can't wait! Enjoyed every second of this Warren, thank you.

One of the things I love most about their early recordings (and Judas Priests' as well), is they allowed raw takes to make it to the albums. Certainly, there were never sour notes or bad timing, but maybe a pinch harmonic didn't quite squeal, and maybe a string rang out a little instead of being fully muted. The raw energy of their takes just can't be denied!

And yes, please adress the (to me uncalled for-) critique I sometimes hear about how Martin Birch handles bass in his mixes. I mean, Ritchie Blackmore said Martins mix of Rising (by Rainbow, one of my favorites) lacked bass. It doesn't, but it's not in your face. It lacks perhaps the deep end bass. My father said the same thing about The Number of The Beast, and he is in the recording business. I've never reflected on it myself, but I can see what they mean.

We used buy our cassettes at this little hole in the wall music store. He turned us on to Judas priest, merciful fate and others. One-day he pulled us aside and said youve got to listen to this new band. He played a song and we were blown away. So of coarse we bought a cassette. We drove back to the community center where all the teens drank and got high. Threw the tape in the pioneer supertuner with the 40 watt kraco power amp and Jensen tri axial speakers and introduced everyone to Iron Maiden. That first album literally blew our minds. We must've played it 20 times. I can remember like it was yesterday, seeing all of us playing air guitar in the parking lot. One of my friends was blown away by the bass player. He later on became on of the greatest metal bassist for the biggest metal band of my generation. That band was Metallica and his name is Clifford Burton. May he rest in peace. One of Castro Valleys legends. Along with the band Tesla. And Michael Borden of Faith no More.

When I was a High School Senior just over 30 years ago, I was in English Lit. My teacher introduced "Rime of The Ancient Mariner." Being a 17 year old kid, I blurt out "Iron Maiden!" However, This was "Rime of The Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Taylor-Coleridge. Whoops....lol. But I had first heard of "Rime of The Ancient Mariner" because of Iron Maiden, so that's pretty cool.

Piece of Mind was my first new-to-me Maiden album and have had the pleasure of seeing them live many times from the 80s to the 2010s, they never disappoint! Bruce's speaking tour that he did for his book was really fun and he shared a lot of great stories from his family and personal life along his life & career, just a guy that really seems to get it with the fans, though that can be said of the entire Iron Maiden experience with fans.

Fantastic video! Thank you for recognizing the genius of this band when the R&R Hall of Fame cannot. Iron Maiden opening for Judas Priest in 1982 was my first major concert as a kid. Saw them again on the Piece of Mind tour the next year when they finally started headlining their own shows. I've seen them a few more times over the years and have even played both Dave and Adrian in a few iron Maiden tributes. The live feel of those early studio albums contains so much energy. You can FEEL Nicko's whole drum kit virbate. You don't get that today with every drum isolated and masked and replaced with samples. Even the guitar solos have a few tiny "mistakes" that you can only hear in isolation, but today a producer would insist or redoing. This era of the band is a perfect representation of what great musicians playing live together can sound like.

I'm late to this, but it was a great watch. I agreed with every word you said. The first album I bought was Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, and I had no idea I'd already hit the pinnacle. I actually drifted slightly away from rock and metal until the Japanese scene reignited my love of it a couple of years ago. It's common to see fans of e.g. Band-Maid, Sokoninaru, Asterism, Gacharic Spin and Lovebites say "the problem is, I now find the simpler music I used to listen to boring", and I have to admit, there's some truth in that for me too. But with a big exception: Iron Maiden. I can put on their albums and they sound as rich and creative now as they did decades ago. They are timeless.

Rock, ; Aerosmith, Gun`s & Rose, Paul Mc Cartney, Elton John,... Jazz, Pop, Classical ... I LIKE MUSIC !!! And without of a doubt Maiden was THE BEST live band ever period. They are just PERFECT ! Every musician are 1000 % professional, each show was like a final of world soccer cup OR a Super Bowl. They are NEVER sold her music for commercial pupose ( the always refused pub no matter how much the money was...). At almost 50 years in business they always keep her music on integrity side, with almost always on the top stage of Hard rock scene ( except 2-3 years with Blaze ). The only album i doesn`t like is Virtual ( few good one , but not really good at my taste...). SO TOP 10 singer ( rock-metal...) of all time My List : 1- Bruce Dickinson / * Freddie Mercury ( cannot put Freddie second... or Bruce... ) 2- Ronnie James Dio 3- Ian Gillan 4- Robert Plant 5- Chris Cornell 6- Michael Kiske 7- Steve Perry 8- Rob Halford 9- Sebastian Bach 10- Steven Tyler

great video, thanks Warren! Maiden fans are something else. Some years ago I went to see my GP. "Doctor, I've got this problem . . ." I began. "Yes, yes," he interrupted me, "have you got tickets for Maiden?" I'm generally not a huge metal fan but Iron Maiden I love - they got songs about serious, real issues; fantastic musicianship, great melodies & harmonies, and they actually play and pull it off for for real without correction. Their most recent couple of albums are as powerful as those classic '80s records, still the majestic sound of a great band just laying it down. Kevin Shirley's production (how about an interview with Kevin?) sounds enormous. Go Eddie!
