Tonight I'm taking a closer look at the C5 Corvette A/C Heater Controller. I go over the basic function and design of this piece, and then disassemble it to show the inner components and point out the which ones have the highest failure rate.

My dad has need trying to fix his for a bit we just got the Freon charged professionally and thought that might the issue but the ac light turns on for a second still blowing hot air and then turns off what could be the issue

Jason, it sounds like you could have a blend door actuator issue that's causing it to blow only hot air. If those check out, then you may have an internal circuit board fault on the HVAC unit itself. Let me know how it turns out or have any more questions👍.

Good video ! I need my unit repaired. I have some lights out and also my unit has turned on by itself on a couple of occasions. Who can I send mine too ?

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I would recommend looking at some of the ebay listings under "C5 Corvette HVAC repair". Many of the rebuild vendors advertise there and you can get a good sense of their reliability through the ebay feedback system.

Is there any aftermarket C5 climate control units? Or are you essentially stuck with OEM?

Unfortunately no aftermarket supplier has invested in the tooling necessary so we're stuck with used or remanufactured GM units.

My display looks just like yours is this fixable with having the burn spot on it?

Most likely not. By the time the burn spot is noticeable, it's time for replacement.

When I bought my used C5, I wasn't advised that the heater control module and door blend actuators were not functioning properly. I didn't know anything about Corvettes so I really didn't know what to look for or what commonly breaks. MY BAD. Now I have discovered the clicking of the door blend actuators and warm air comes out of the passenger vents and cool air from the driver side vents. Also, while the passenger side temp control knob worked at first, it does not change the temp or the temp indicator on the display screen any longer. I know I will need new door blend actuators but I'm concerned that the circuit board in the control module needs repair for the passenger temp control knob as well. My question is this: Do you know where I can find working door blend actuators? As you know, GM is out of stock on these. Also, can I send my module to you for repair and return to me?

Hey Tom, I don't offer a repair service, but I would recommend looking into the vendors on ebay that rebuild the ac/heater control units. Also, even though the blend actuators are no longer available from GM, they are readily available from the aftermarket suppliers online due to the high failure rate. I would check eBay and Amazon for the actuator applicable to your car.

Do you know what causes the HVAC unit lights to stay on and kill battery

I haven't encountered that one personally, but it sounds like an internal failure of the circuit board that is keeping power flowing when it's supposed to be switched off.

I have the same problem.. it drives me insane. My car will die within 24 hours. How long does your battery stay charged?

Would that be the cause of my heat not working but the a/c is working great

Possibly, but that's also a symptom of a blend door actuator not operating properly. Definitely will need a little more daignosis.

My heater stuck on hot should this be the reason?????

Most likely. This is the major failure point for correct A/C and heater operation, including the temperature adjustment.

You're correct, there isn't really a video for that. Truth is once you get the shifter/radio bezel out, it's a breeze to pull it out of the dash. I'll see what I can put together for a future video👍.
