Harry seems to be an extreme case, but there’s a slight parental element in many marriages. Wives do need to be motherly sometimes. And women look to their husbands to be very protective ( almost like a father) at times of special need. In some enduring marriages, those roles a quite pronounced. The Wales marriage would never have worked. Diana was very young and out of her depth. She wanted a hero-protector. Camilla would have been perfect for Charles - a comfortable lady, unambitious and gentle. Always there when needed. Rather motherly in fact.

Understand what you are saying, but Diana set her sights on Charles as a young teenager, when he was dating her older sister. Maybe Charles saw her, as such a young woman, someone who would come without baggage etc. The Spencers are one of the most infamous aristocratic British families, with a history of wife beating etc. which it is alleged the reason why, Dianas mother Frances left. She was so young and after being made to feel unwanted decided to show Charles she was wanted and loved , it's human nature, but despite everything she really cared about her son's.
