I appreciate you. Keep educating the people. I was in the park and someone asked me this about my Rott. I tried to explain about American vs German but ignorance is bliss and they acted like I didn't know what I was talking about, but that's okay. lol

You know what you are talking about. I am from the Netherlands and I grew up with Rottweilers from the age of 6. We got to pick a puppy from a nest from one of our neighbors dogs, because earlier that year their dogs jumped over the ditch between our yards and mortally attacked the dog that we had up until that day right in front of my eyes. Gosh it's been a long time ago that I had to bring up those memories. Because of all that, my parents got involved into dog shows and dog training, and my mom even became a dog trainer for a local dog training school. They went to these big international dog shows and even won first prizes with the dog that we got to pick from our neighbor, and that is how my parents eventually got involved into breeding dogs. It was a labor of love for the dogs, they were treated like any other family member, and in many cases even better hahaha. I can remember that the standards were indeed very high. A lot of paperwork and veterinarian tests and dog psychology and dog behavior tests and dog shows were involved even before you were allowed to breed with Rottweilers, at least if you wanted to have all the official and correct paperwork. And if all that was alright, the dog also had to have certain looks before people were even willing to let their dog breed with another dog. I mean, it was not just the looks, but every little detail in every aspect had to be as perfect as it could be, according to their standards in that day and age. My parents even traveled to Germany to breed with our dogs because according to them they found a dog with the right pedigree, looks, character and everything else that comes with it. As far as it is possible to judge that, because all that doesn't give any guarantees for a successful breed. And our puppies were sold in different countries as well. And I can remember that we visited each puppy at it's new family after a few months or as they were a year old or so, so that my mom was absolutely sure that the pup was well treated, and only if my mom thought that it was all good she would give the new family their final paperwork that would make them legally the owner from the dog. My mom made absolutely sure that the people were up for the task of raising a Rottweiler, and that the dog was treated very well. And she had a very good reputation among the Rottweiler scene and the veterinarians here in the Netherlands. People from all over the place would call her for a puppy or to ask her if she was ever going to breed again with our dogs. I mean, not just because the pups looked good and all that, but also because they were taken care of so well. I mean, these puppies were born inside the house in a room of the house that was specially adjusted for the dogs, warm and cleaned every single poop session. Man, I can remember all the old newspapers that I collected for that hahaha. And the puppies wouldn't leave our house before they had reached a certain age, and not without all the shots that a puppy needs, and not before my mom made sure that the puppy had the right weight and that everything was alright with the puppy and well checked by a veterinarian, and that she was convinced that the new family was up for the task and that the new family lived at a place with enough space for the dog to play and run. I mean, my mom went far and beyond to check all that stuff well before she even decided that you were the correct owner for one of her puppies. And the new family also had to name their dog beginning with a letter that we choose. So one nest all shared their first name starting with the same letter as my first name, and so on for all our family members names. If we visited the people and the pup after a year or so, those pups would go absolutely nuts from joy just by hearing the sound of my mom's voice. They all loved her, and although they had a new family, my mom was always their first mom. If the new family and my mom called or gave a command to the pup at the same time, the pup would listen to my mom :-) So from my experience, as a very young boy who literally grew up with and between Rottweilers, I can confirm that you are absolutely right that you can't really speak about a "German" Rottweiler, not even if the dog was born in Germany, because it might very well be that the direct family tree from that particular dog has it's roots in a totally different country. And you are also absolutely right about the "ugly" Rottweilers, as I call them. They are here in Europe as well. And you are also absolutely right about the high standards when it comes to dog shows, dog behavior tests, and breeding Rottweilers with the correct paperwork. I mean, there are always people who are not honest, or breed without paperwork, or breed just for the money, but besides that, looking at it from the purist point of view and the people with the right intentions, you can indeed say that in general there is, or at least was, a very high standard in the Rottweiler community. At those dog shows they check every little aspect possible. If the dog is too nervous or even snaps to a judge the dog gets disqualified. If the pigment is not correct the same thing happens. I mean, those are just two examples, but every part of the dog, from tip to toe is checked and judged, and if the behavior from the dog doesn't seem right according to the judges the dog doesn't make it either. I mean, before a dog can even enter a show it had to do several official behavior tests, but even when a dog passed those tests the judges would judge the behavior from the dog again at the show. And the winner from the show, like our dog was, gets a lot of phone calls from people who would love to have a puppy. I wrote this story because it was refreshing to see somebody with actual accurate knowledge about Rottweilers, and since I am from Europe I can only confirm what has been told in this video. And I believe that it is good to bring out good and accurate information about this breed. There are enough people who are taking advantage of people with lesser knowledge, so all the lessons that we can learn from each other will help to prevent that. And besides that, if your dog loves you, and you love your dog, who cares if he looks German or Belgian, or American :-)

I don’t want to argue but I will say that the German Rottis, I have seen, on average are larger, taller, have a Square head/body, and a longer nose. I live in Germany, and bought My Stud, Beno , from the birthplace of the Breed, Rottweil, Germany. Although it depends on the Breeding pair the Small, short Rotti is not the Standard. Originally the Dog was used to pull the wagon of the butcher, and used to drive Cattle, so a Dachshund or German Shepherd wouldn’t do. You can still have a German Rottweiler while living in America due to the blood linage. If all those Pups linage were bred in Germany, they can only be a German REGARDLESS of where they are born. And there are certain body types attributed to the German Dogs as to the Americans and that’s a fact. But if the Breeding pair has HD, or Cow Hocks, ( weak hind legs) over or under bite, then it doesn’t matter what blood they have, the pups will not be of any good quality. My Stud Beno and Bitch Asta were trained for Personal Protection ( Schutzhund Ausbildung) and weighed 65KG/50KG and were 67CM/63 CM tall. I’ve bred for size and temperament. Aggressiveness is not desired because it’s already there and has to be Channeled with Love and Obedience training. But to the point, I was selling My Pups, with an unbroken German linage as German Rottweilers, because that’s what they were. I didn’t want any other Blood in My Dogs. Everyone should know that the ONLY Pure Blood race of People are the Africans or the San. Much like the so called Aryan race, but if You do Your History, Hitler wasn’t Aryan, and also didn’t have Blonde hair or Blue eyes. Actually, the Aryan have little to do with being Caucasian or White. Aryan is a Stereotypical reference to People of Turkey, India, or Iranian Heritage with dark hair, darker pigmentation and eyes. Enough of the Nazi Ignorance of a Super Race. But I wanted to keep the linage as pure as possible. I believe that’s the meaning of Pure bred. Like the Iceland Horse. NO Horse that leaves the Country can EVER come back. There are NO IMPORTS!! Much discussed topic, which depends on Ones determination of what Purebred means. I’m buying a Rhodesian Ridgeback from S. Africa, with African blood not one that was bred with a German, American, or English linage, but that’s just My Theory. Also with the RR, some pups are born WITHOUT the ridge. I personally believe that these pups should be put down, sterilized, and given another name, because they have no ridge. Like a Dalmatian without spots is a White dog, and shouldn’t be called a Dalmatian. Or maybe the Croatian dogs? In general ALL Breds are MUTTS eccentrically. The Breed name came from the Country where that Breed was initially Registered. Therefore to emphasize My point again, when not of a clear linage of the Origin of the Breed it should be sold as a Rottweiler with American blood or whatever Country, but not Purebred Rottweilers. One last point is the price. A Purebred ANYTHING costs more that a Mixedblooded WHATEVER. Arabian Horses price doubles when Originally Breed in the UAE. Or a RR price is higher when Imported from England. Folks are willing to pay more for Anything that’s as close as possible to the ORIGINAL (which stems from the root word “ORIGIN”) than for something that is half Original. I’m out.

I agree with what you’re saying because I know Germany’s breeding standards when it comes to these dogs they are very strict when it comes to bloodlines of their dogs and that what makes the difference between the German breed vs the American, but there are good breeds in America also you just have to do your research on the genetics of the dog

Speak the truth Brother. I’ve mentioned this numerous times that if You just go by a darker colored dog as being a German, that’s totally wrong. Because Your can drastically enhance the dark and light colors of Your dog by feeding it veggies like beets and carrots. The tan could better a dark mahogany color and the mask really dark. I live in Germany and have bred Rottis advertised as Purebreds because NOWHERE in their linage is a Dog from Somewhere other than GERMANY!! And to associate the Standards of the AKC with the ADRK (Allgemein Deutscher Rottweiler Klub) is also erroneous. I bought My Stud, Beno, from the Birthplace of the breed, Rottweil, Germany from a Breeder. In Germany in order to get pink papers You have to join an Association or Rottweiler Club. They hold the Standards to the Breed and You pay dues for the opportunity to breed and get Certified. Many Backyard/Hobby Breeders will either sell without papers or get Fake papers to make more Chips and sell to the Uninformed. If Butler is selling Rottweilers with Imported European Bloodlines, bred to an AKC or American born Dog, He’s selling an AKC/American Rottweiler with some European blood. No more and no less. We sold Purebred German Rotts. Also the breeding stock has to meet the Specifications. My Dogs were large, Beno being 65KG/68CM and Asta 50KG/63CM. We jogged 2-3 KM per day and longer on weekends. In general the whole situation of having a Rott in Germany isn’t comparable to the US. Included in the Membership of a ADRK Organization is the opportunity for Obedience or Personal Protection Training with a Certificate (Schutzhund Ausbildung). You also have to show proof of Insurance for Your dog. One of the main reasons for Rotts in the Shelters is lack of Obedience training, which is the fault of the Owner. The training starts the first day it comes home until it goes to the Light. I bred for Structure, Health, Temperament, and Appearance. My Stud was very productive with litters of 10-14 pups on average. Butlers Kennel is only profitable because He uses European Bloodlines. He even mentioned this. But REGARDLESS of which He uses they’re still just American Rottweilers. Not intending to throw Shade of the Bro, but I personally would want to buy a German Blooded Rott depending on Conformation, and Temperament as opposed to an European/ American bloodline Dog. But that’s My opinion.

Do your research. As he said genetics play a Hugh part in both breeding, looks, and health. That is with any dog or animal. You giving Great content.

But in reality.. born and raised in the U.S. makes it a american dog, just like we the people are americans.

Facts! People are mistaking where a dog was born with the actual breed name. There are other breeds like the French Bulldogs. Doesn't mean they were all born in France, it's the breed name. Rottweiler is the name of the breed. Research has to be done to understand the quality of the dogs this an important factor people don't understand. Dogs that compete in the American Kennel Club shows have specific requirements on how each breed needs to look. My grandma had a very BEAUTIFUL Rottie, she became the standard to me on what a Rottie should look like. She looked like she could be a show dog. There are differences in coloring and coat lengths which might signify the dog's bloodline might not be 100% purebred or a result of bad or overbreeding.

Tony I’m not knocking your game but a true ADRK breed Rottweiler will always be superior! From what I can see from your website and videos you’re breeding good looking dogs but they are Black and Tan Goldens. Where’s the ZTP? Where’s the working titles? For those that really want a true Rottweiler education is key. A true Rottweiler is a working dog. Their parents and many generations before them have all been tested and have to pass a breed suitability test. If the dog doesn’t pass they are not breed! That’s the difference!!! For those the want a true Rottweiler do your homework.

Bro this is the best video you’ve made you are telling the pure honest truth. Most German dogs that are brought to the US is trash if that dog in Germany don’t pass the breed suitability test then the breeder will sell or export that dog to America but they are not sound and that’s why we have so many dogs who are sold to the wrong people who have no idea of how to manage a sharp dog.next video could be how to differentiate between a sharp dog and a confident dog rotties are very into their owners but if he’s sharp and or over confident or just a bad temperament if you’re not a person with a lot of patience then you and your dog will have problems. So I do prefer to let breeders sort out that part. But be careful some breeders have no class and will sell you anything and say it’s a German rottie but they don’t say that he didn’t pass the BST or the IPO

I do agree with using the title as a selling point, but an average German Rottweiler Imported are different than Rottweilers in America. Germany helps their dogs to a huge standard and aren’t able to be registered unless it is held to Germany’s standard. Germany and Europe in general’s dogs have better GENERAL health bc of the breeding standards. I’m America anyone can breed, in Europe that isn’t the case. The best thing to do in finding a reputable breeder is asking if the puppies parents are dna and health tested.

Let me offer a different perspective. There are different breed standards in the US, Germany, Serbia etc. These standards are made by people for people. Differing standards will absolutely produce different looking dogs in each country. Germany is a stickler on their standard so, outside genetic variability their dogs will look more like each other. Lineage matters but was it left out of this video? A pup bred solely on Serbian lines to Serbian standards (think cultivar) is a Serbian pup no matter where she is born. Let me be a little basic: A Florida orange grown in California is still a Florida orange. Would a Chinese Panda born in the Brooklynn Zoo be a Brooklyn Panda? Technically all Rotts are Roman (this is a type as well)/German. Lineage and country standard matters. If breeders in a country breed to a country standard/aesthetic there will be a country “type”. For a very clear example, look at the American and German GSD.

I know for a fact that the European and German standards are not the same for Doberman and Rotties in America. That’s why the dogs looks heavier and have more substance. To be fair I am a Gamebred Pitt guy, so l don’t have a lot of knowledge about Rotties. However I do know the standards for the dogs they have are different. That includes German Shepherds and many other breeds. Look at Japanese Akita and American standards. That’s why there dogs look different also. They are both Akita, just like the are both Rottweilers.

Bred to a standard... thats what you get with AKC. The thing is that standard get so loose over time as not all will look exactly alike. My take has always been that American rottys have been bred with a different breed, like German Shepard Rotty mix... i personally love the look and size of them. but thats me

To be honest that’s common sense the dog has to be imported directly from Germany but that doesn’t mean that the bloodline has change so if I say I have German Rottweilers I will be telling the truth same thing with the German shepherds of course they were born in America but they’re still German

There is no such thing as an American Rottweiler. All Rottweilers are German by breed origin. Reference to a name of country is simply because it is registered with an association or club if it is a pure bred dog. They are from a town called Rottweil, South west Germany, from where they take their name. They were a herding working dog originally for the Romans. Modern breeding allowed for two types, herding and pulling/draughting. In Europe and the UK one can sometimes see the difference in the conformation and size, the larger being bred from a line which was used for pulling, they are longer in the back and legs, although this is not as prevalent as a smaller stockier type which is seen almost entirely in the show ring.

True Facts, now I've been told that the difference is that the German Guidelines are stricter than the American guidelines where when they first started, and that when backyard breeders in America started using fraudulent paperwork to register dogs that were Rottweiler mixed as purebred it helped to add to the physical differences that you see amongst what we consider German and American, now granted since they the American kennel club became more aware and the guidelines became stricter people breed strictly back to Rottweilers and bred out any distinctive discrepant DNA, like how you can breed out Shepherd like if the shepherd is like 12 or more generations away and your dog has been bred to nothing but Rottweiler you get that dog tested and it's going to probably come back Rottweiler? If the author or any one knows differently plz elaborate, mean or malicious people with the intend to belittle or ridicule need not respond as I am a new Rottweiler owner and I'm just curious?
