THE TRUE DUTY OF ASTORATH THE REDEEMER! 

I really do love how he refuses to allow another Brother, to have to take on his solemn duty to end the suffering of his brothers. It makes sense that he might have this ability, part of the precognition that Sanguinius passed to his sons. Even the ship traveling faster makes sense. The warp responds to strong feelings and emotions. Astorath feels so strongly about his mission it effects the warp around him.

Man, Guy Haley is just a Beast at writing these amazing characters.

I don't know what kind of 'music' calls Astorath from across the galaxy, but I'm pretty damn sure whoever he's about to visit hears boss music.

Imagine being the Lamenters and seeing this guy show up.

I've always loved Astorath the Grim, he was the first hero model I bought when I started playing table top 40k years ago. Guy Haley is an absolute monster with his writing!

Gabriel Seth of the Flesh Tearers himself couldn’t stand between him and his duty, and would have died if they kept fighting as Seth was furious at him for granting the Emperor’s mercy to a flesh tearer who fell to the rage (my own opinion on their short battle). Reading about Gaius Point and the trouble a single Marine had to kill a brother that fell to the rage and butchered an entire mining colony really gives you an idea of how much of a badass Astorath is considering how effective he is at killing some of the most dangerous Marines in the galaxy.

Khornes in the warp like, "Its alright guys, he's with me."

Job so depressing even the literal hell takes pity on you and provides you with swift passage. Where do I sign up?

The reason why he gets through the warp so fast? His duty is just too amusing to Khorne, so he makes sure that Astorath can follow the music unhindered... >: )

The Symbolism of "The Archetypes" and the parallels to the "End of Days"/Scriptural concepts is quite amazing to ponder and "connect the dots" of the pattern.

Just found this guy’s channel a few days ago and I’ve been listening to his content non-stop! Such endearing affection for the lore! I really feel like I’m just sitting with a buddy nerding out on our favorite characters. This is easily my favorite lore channel now and I am having a blast! The Grim Angel! Astorath is one of my favorite Chaplains in the 40k setting. I'd love to see a battle where Astorath, Grimaldus and Asmodai find themselves on the same battlefield, bringing the Emperors Righteous Fury to the traitors.

The fast warp travel makes sense. The warp is a psychic dimension. that means time and space don’t exist there; only the concepts of distance and duration. The psychic bond to his brothers, and the mental wait of his duty, makes Astorath close to his brothers on a conceptual level.

It’s characters and stuff that like this that make me absolutely love the blood angels. Their struggle, the way the characters handle the flaw, the unwavering love and reverence for their fallen primarch… I’ve only recently gotten into painting and actually reading the novels, but everything I read and every model I paint just makes me like the sons of sanguinius more. By the blood.

Such a tragic figure, really. Sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and do what has to be done.

Astartes that care for both common humanity and their brothers will always win my heart over the dozens of self righteous, callous, and arrogant bastards that form so many other chapters. I love this dude, he really does give off that grim but deeply compassionate vibe that the blood angels are often known for.

Thank you for all your hard work. I've heard of Warhammer & 40k, but never paid it any mind. You changed that and while I never played the games I am now reading the books about this amazing universe

This was one of the 1st full Warhammer stories I heard on RU-vid maybe a year ago. Listening to your video gave me context on who Astorath is. When I heard this, i just thought he was just a chaplain.

If Sanguinius ever came back what would happen to the rage do you think? Would they still get it and if so would they be able to bring themselves out of it knowing he's back alive and well? Or do you think it would just go away or perhaps nothing would change at all. I think this would be a very interesting topic to explore, great vids man!

Amazing... can’t wait to read. I think Blood Angels are Blood Angels whether they suffer the Black Rage or not. Because they were Blood Angels before the Black Rage was even created. Red Thirst always existed and that is more defining then the rage. Just my opinion.

I did not know really anything about this character save for the model looking cool. I love how noble he is about his cause and how makes sure to absolve the people of any guilt they may feel for someone getting the Black Rage, he really doesn't have to do that but that is what makes him a heroic character. Has Guy Haley written any books for Space Wolves?

The Blood Angels are in good hands with Guy Haley. Astorath is a great character, and you're right Rho, he's often been relegated to a minor role in past work. I'm in the middle of reading his new novel at the moment. I'm also glad my Astorath is well-painted and a veteran of table-top battles ;)

that tidbit about the ship is delicious. say any chance you can do a video explaining the extent to which geneseed passes on the characteristics of a marine and how over time they can be reinforced by picking aspirants whose nature fits the character of the geneseed resulting in all these different chapters cause i feel people these days are starting to believe that an ultramarine succesor has the in principal geneseed as a founding chapter. another idea is the fact that all the primarchs and a lot of chaos champions were chosen as so because theyre perptuals and chaos is pulling a sneaky by making them think their immortality is a gift of chaos. my personal theory is thats what really dictates whether you become a chaos spawn or not. it all adds up perfectly imho and no one seems to have noticed in the entire community

None can deny the purpose of Death, not even chaos. For Death is an anti-thesis to chaos, which is a warped life-force in essence.

I want to know more about the black wings. I suppose angelic wings are considered an acceptable mutation? Or are they decorative and not real wings?

I have a question, are the wings on their jump packs… articulate? And if they are, do they provide any practical advantage?

Astorath bodies Black Rage Marines on the regular with ease. I wonder how he would fair against a fellow badass like Tyberos or Asterion Moloc.

Astorath once started killing members of a chapter who thought they were sons of Gillimon. That's an interesting way to discover Sanguinius is really your gene sire. No idea how Astorath would handle an entire pissed off chapter.

I never owned the previous Astorath model. I wasn't into 40k then, and I don't really buy characters unless I have some connection. Astorath despises Mephiston so I was like "well then EF that guy!" But now I am about to own the brand new model, so I am glad to understand a bit more about him.

So has Astorath mastered the black rage similar to Mephiston?

Since hearing the theory about an alternative last fight on the Vengeful Spirit, I really can't stop reading entirely different meanings into these Blood Angel stories... In short: What if it wasn't Horus who killed Sanguinus, nor mortally wounded the Emperor? There's no way Sanguinus would lose a battle against the Warmaster, who nearly lost to Russ, even if somewhat tired after singlehanded holding the gate against Chaos forces and Greater demons; and very unlikely that the Emperor would have stopped short of obliterating Horus and allow himself to be mortally wounded by him. What if Sanguinus went full rage mode in his battle against Horus, killed him, and then attacked the Emperor himself as his rage could not be contained. That would be much more reasonable as to why the Emperor didn't want to fight back at first, but eventually was forced to kill his most beloved son, and then destroy Horus and kill everyone else in the room so that none would know of what actually happened there. Then, what if those who fall to the Black rage does not just relive the moment of their gene-father's death at the hands of Horus, but rather that of the entire battle; from when Sanguinus finally succumbed to the Thirst, to the shameful moment his madness drove him to attack the Emperor himself. Would it make sense if someone like Astorath has been chosen as one of the Emperor's "saints", and is led by him; not only to free the fallen of their torment; but also to keep them from ever telling anyone else about their father's final moments...?

So what was he doing when baal was attacked by the Tyrannids

I think not only should Astorath, but his entire retinue should cross. After the initial success they should be crossing a company at a time as fast as they can.

Personally I think Sanguinius's TWO souls returned to the warp and calm the warp for him.

I wonder why the Iron Hands don't have something like this? And the Salamanders? The Salamanders should be absolute nut cases if the death of a primarch causes madness.

I never was a huge Blood Angels fan. Don't get me wrong, I liked them well enough, but they were not amongst my favourite chapters, as I just simply seen them too overpowered and their theme too convoluted (being emo angel vampires is like something out of a teenage girls' novel... superficially of course). I loved Dante for example, but Mephiston always just felt out of the charts powerful to me. But with this story you really started to get me loving them as much as I love the Salamanders or the Fists. I just love chaplains, they have long since been some of my favourite characters, and this is just awesome. The first 40k trilogy I read were the Tomes of Fire by Nick Kyme, and chaplain Elysius' charcter just endeared them to me so much. As I immerse myself more and more into the lore of 40k, I realize that I'll probably end up loving every single loyalist legion by the end and won't even be able to pick a clear favourite.

Frankly the Blood Angels are a lost chapter. Sooner or later they will all fall to the rage. Why even waste more Primaris on them ....

i strongly suspect that the perpetual gene is a lot more present than originally believed, but that in most cases its not activated which is why the cabal could grant it to grammatticus. its also clear that kharn at the very least was a perpetual its the only way he could have survived the landraider during the istvaan betrayal. same thing for angron getting consistently buried blacking out (just like vulcan did) then waking up seemingly unstoppable even when he has been skinned at the same time lorgar is getting shot and crushed by a titan. morty, horus, the khan, sanguinius. every primarch has these moments in the novels that get skimmed over and ignored and i really think theyre the biggest clue of all to the treachery of chaos.

So, the Black Rage, supposedly buffs Blood Angel by a significant margin but makes them insane, is slained by one man who's literal job is just to kill Astartes who had the black rage

I disagree with the idea that it's some left over aspect of Sanguinius which helps speed Astorath through the Immaterium. You kind of mentioned it yourself, how power in the warp is amplified by the embodiment of concepts. We know that large groups of people believing in something is how something gains power in The Warp, which is why Slaanesh formed through the debauchery of the Eldar, and how the Emperor of Mankind is akin to a God now. I think, simply put, that the infamy of Astorath among the Blood Angels, how he's tied to a painful aspect of them, and how to them he embodies Death, is what speeds him through the warp. Because, really, what's faster or more sudden than Death?

I really don't think it's Sanguinius smoothing the warp out, I think it is genuinely the strength of purpose he has. That's how the warp works and what is described, after all. They could easily have said it was the Angel, but they didn't.

Whats with the...Chaplain(?) in the bottom left corner? He isn't in all black armor (or even some black armor, since the jumpack chaplain (Not Astorath) also has red armor) And his shoulder pad with the blood angel symbol doesn't line up well. You see too much of the symbol and u wouldn't from that angle
