As someone who both loves musical theater and has been researching the strike for about a year and a half, I must admit, I went into this video hesitant and a bit skeptical. I was worried that there would be some misinformation that I commonly see spread throughout the fandom. However, after watching this video, I can say that I am truly impressed by how well researched it was. Very well done :)
Can't believe you actually got let into the Newsies theatre at Wembley Park and also that you visited New York City itself for this informative yet exciting video on Disney's Newsies.
The movie seems to have covered the strike much more accurately. The movie does make a big deal of Jack Kelly going back to selling papers and just seems to follow the historical events a whole lot closer.
Amy this was fantastic! I’m exactly the same, I come out of a show and I want to learn everything about what inspired it! I haven’t seen Newsies yet but hopefully will get to see it before it closes, I feel like I’ll have a good background knowledge now of the story ☺️ so cool that you got to film on the stage as well and in NY! Can’t wait for more in this series, would love to see a Hamilton video next!
Hi! I'm super excited I came across your video -- Is this appropriate for high school students to watch? They are viewing Newsies in Musical Theatre Class this week. Before I watch all the way through, I just wanted to ask and make sure it was "high school" approved by you :)
When the movie was first being made they thought about doing Hearst. However they thought Hearst would be to easy. Probably because of Citizen Kane so they went with Pulitzer.
Despite being an absolute Broadway lover, however in this instance I have to say that I LOVED the movie better than the play. The theater version merged Sarah & Denton & I was NOT a fan of that combination.
