He's not alive lol. He has a son named Dwayne Wayans who is alive though. In fact, here's a video where Marlon discusses Dwayne (though he doesn't name him). The interviewer asks about his favorite/least favorite brothers. Around the 1 minute mark, Marlon says "probably the dead one." ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F3mA3Wh-bhA.html Thanks for watching. P.S. I'm pinning this since it seems to be a pretty popular misconception.
Why is it laughable when Marlon, Dwayne's brother, is the one that says he passed? His death is also briefly discussed in Tommy Davidson's memoir and David Peisner's history of the show. In his memoir, Davidson discusses Dwayne's son being a musical composer. This led me to the conclusion that Dwayne Wayans (the son) is the one that the recent credentials are for. You can also look at Dwayne's IG and you can see that he's a different (and much younger man) than the Dwayne that appeared on ILC. Also, based on my research, two sources claim he's alive: IMDB and Wikipedia. Other sources simply refer back to those two. If you have a credible source claiming he's alive, I'd love to see it.
Considering that Marlon had 4 brothers and Damon, Keenen, and Shawn are still alive doing interviews and stand up, who else would he be talking about? You're not going with Wikipedia (which can be edited by anyone) and IMDB over me, you're going with them over Dwayne's literal brother and acquaintances. IMDB also says that Shawn is Dwayne's parent LOL. If you wanna be a contrarian, just say that lol.
True that. Big budget box office blockbuster biopic. Amazing American story. But like the narrator said, I rarely hear or see much about their story. I mean, there's countless movies and videos about the birth of SNL.
I loved Homey the Clown. I was working as a substitute teacher and when the kids tried to pull some sh*t I said "Hey, Homey don't Play Dat." They knew exactly what I meant.
It was but them saying it was the best 4 yr show ever is a little delusional. CHAPELLE SHOW was by far the best short run show/comedy/anything ever made and there's not even a close second.
I always liked how they all stuck together, not just the Wayans family, but as entertainers, Townsend, Murphy, Wayans, and Hall. It showed in Raw, you see their names in the credits.
One of the funniest families ever. Me and my family would sit around the TV Sunday nights and it was In Living Color, The Simpsons, and Married With Children.
Between ages of 6-12 I hated being black. At 12, I tried to end it. The next-door neighbor’s dog saved my life. "In living color" made me realize that erasing myself wasn't the solution. The show allowed me to see the genuine problem which was the brainwashing from the toxic people in my life. Thank you to everyone who worked on the show. Your work and your artistry appreciated. We need that to motivate us to think differently and fight for what is right. “In Living Color” gave me the chance to embrace my identity and to express myself freely. Taught me finding humor in an unpleasant situation can heal the soul. Now, I am in love with myself and proud to be a dark skin black woman. “Wrote a song about it, like to hear it here it go." IF YOU DON’T LIKE ME GO CRY A RIVER BUILD A BRIDGE AND GET THE F🦆 OOVER IT. CUZ I AIN’T GOT NO TIME FOR YO YO YO BULL🤬IT .
Do Y'all Dark Brown Skin AA PPL UNDERSTAND That SELF HATE IS CAUSED BY GENERATIONAL Slave Master's Mentality As Well As STANDARD White Ppl Blonde/Blue Beauty??? NEXT, The News Media SYSTEMICALLY Only Reports AA PPL'S DEMISES
This was honestly so amazingly detailed and put together it’s really a shame the algorithm isn’t promoting this well crafted piece of journalism Salute to you love
Well done!👏🏽 Also, Marlon wasn't lying when he said that the pilot show stopped crime for a day. I can remember the exact night it aired, I was 10 and it was a spring night in North Philadelphia and everybody stopped what they were doing, corner boys, kids, parents and the entire block, found a house to go watch the first In Living Color. And, all you could hear was laughs bursting out of the screen doors the entire time it aired. My favorite was fire marshall bill and homie the clown!💯
I honestly really love how Keenan genuinely encouraged his cast to create their own characters, and show their own unique talents. So very much a part of what made this show literally so magical, and now memorable. ❤❤️❤️
This show still needs to be celebrated. I grew up watching this show and it is amazing. The cast especially The Wayans where amazing. Thank you for making these videos.
I watched this as a little white child every Sunday, age 10-12, and I remember every day at elementary school on Monday we’d all be doing the characters and skits. I used to bop my brother with a Homie the Clown sock. The brilliance of the show made a real impression on me
I'm blown away.. this show meant so much to me... It was 10 when it premiered... Tried to catch as many episodes as I could.. I could if the parents went to bed early and I would sneak downstairs and keep the TV low.. I would sit right in front of it.. It was a 13-in TV.... With channel buttons running down the side. t... Of course, no remote... Kids today will never understand the struggle of changing channels.. And having to manually record episodes in a VCR.. Honestly it was stay up late and try to be as quiet as possible.. which was super hard because everything was funny Or you find someone you knew that had it on VCR. And we're willing to let you borrow it.. although we traded VCRs a lot... It sucked because You would have to return it and unless you had a dual deck VCR cassette recorder.. which was the only way you could make a copy... We did this with all the shows... Yep, the trade VCR cassettes... For living color... kids in the hall .. later Beavis and butthead.. South Park... Sifl and Ollie... Wondeshosen... Kids these days will never ever know how this felt... Not a clue
I bumped into Keenen Ivory Wayne at Miami International Airport once and he was very gracious and humble!!! I felt like my life had flashed in front of me. All of my teenage life passed in front of me!! Thanks for this Documentary!!!!
Listen, I could just watch the Arsenio sketches for the rest of my life and be GOOD. That long finger was so ridiculous lol. There's also the fact that Keenen was 6'5 (and generally chill) and jumping around like he had no sense. They're all just 💋🤌🏾 *chef's kiss*
@@beprettylife My cradle robbing grandfather, who beat on my grandmother, and her had 12 kids or so with a few miscarriages and child deaths. That's the story of many of our grandmothers, great grandmothers, etc.
@@squarebear619 and many of our grandmothers had many children because they were in love and raised their children properly. All of us didn't have dysfunctional ancestors. But many people like to push the negative narrative
That was an enjoyable 1 hour and 20 minutes lol. I'll watch part 2 tomorrow. To the person(s) who made this video.. Great job! 👏 it's a crime this documentary doesn't have at least 100 Likes.
I remember the first airing of the Michael Jackson sketch. The audience was MAD when Tommy said "I guess I AM black". The DVD and current TV release has cheering over it but you can hear the first "OH!!"
This is so awesome! Met Keenan at the “Hollywood Shuffle”premiere after party on Sunset Blvd, he is the person who got me my first entertainment attorney Stephen Barnes who I’m still with to this day. I love this family, when they see each other in person, the give each other a kiss and hug, no matter where they are in public. I met Damon at his first Comedy Special on Hollywood Blvd. Thank you for spotlighting this family!
i recently finished watching the show from start to finish. mind boggling how many people were featured / mentioned that are still relevant today. great show. when homie met sally and carrey hypnotized as a chicken are some of the best skits ever. great show
You did a fantastic job! I love the story of the Waynes as they built an unorthodox legacy that often goes unnoticed. Keep up the great work as I know, this took a tremendous amount of time and effort!
IKR. My Great Greats on my moms side had 11 and were farmers in GA. I don't think it was a consistent every day thing. I know when Kim, Keenan, Damon, Shawn, Marlon, and a couple nephs were on OPRAH, Kim told a joke/story how their moms would trick them into cooking the family dinner.
I know the writers were known for raunchy content, but if not for In Living Color, we may have never gotten other series that push the limits of what's viewed in primetime. Pushing the envelope with unbelievable skits that were funny and intuitive of the culture at the time. Pioneer writers of this show deserve a writer's award like Kendrick got but for outstanding comedy writing of TV and film.
When Damon was sitting with the hat on talking about the comedy club you can really see how much him and Marlon look alike they even move their mouth the same when they talk
This was a well created, edited, researched, and produced video about one incredibly talented and funny family! "In Living Color" aired before my time but it was and still is a hilarious series and an important part of American entertainment on television! Bravo, Jane for Short!
Something that I think they never knew they would do is my husband and I grew up in a poor immigrant neighborhood. Our grandparents immigrated to the United States from Yugoslavia and our parents also struggled through prejudice and being poor. We all would line up in front of our television sets and watch them on TV because they broke down the barriers of racism through comedy and showed us poor kids that we can make it too. We all loved and rooted for them and we understood that hard work could get you out of whatever poverty you were in. Sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore but I think times are going to change again. Thank you for sharing this.
I don't even know how I ended up watching this, but it was well done! I didn't know Keenan went to Tuskegee, that Kim Cole from Living Single was on the first season of In Living Color, or that Damon was on SNL.
Thank you for this! I grew up watching them, this is a documentary I will have to have my sons watch. The Power of family and sticking together bringing your family with you so everyone is successful. I love it
RIP to the patriarch of the Wayans family Howell Wayans who transitioned around the beginning of April 2023....while me an my siblings were growing our mother stressed the same thing as the Wayans mother she took us to the laundry to teach us how to wash clothes properly...taught us how to sew an hem our pants...to cook .,..she said I don't want you to have to depend on no one to do anything for you....
Howell Stouten Wayans (August 26, 1936 - April 1, 2023), a supermarket manager, and his wife Elvira Alethia (née Green, July 23, 1938 - July 22, 2020)…
I have not seen or heard of this show in sooooo long. I use to anticipate going to our cabin because it was the only place we ever got it on TV, with one of those old huge satalite dishes. So glad this vid was on my feed!
Thank you!!! Yes, I've been waiting for something like this. In Living Color was my favorite show when I was a kid. I was born in 82, so I was like 10 when the show peaked. It's one of the only good memories of me and my mother. She was a heroin addict and prostitute and I hated going to visit on the weekends with her (I grew up south Florida). But, there were those nights where we'd get pizza and watch this show and we would love it. Growing up I took a lot of that comedy from the show and used it in school to get attention. In middle school all the black kids would want me to do impressions and "act crazy" and I got most of it from the characters on this show. The favorite was me screaming "BAM" like Funky Finger Productions. I had all the DVDs when they came out, and it's so noticeable to see the quality go down in the later seasons. Especially without Damon. Damon was the biggest driving force of comedy on that show. I absolutely love that show and think it is light years beyond any other sketch comedy show I've ever seen. Nothing compares to it. It's ridiculously smart, funny, and over the top. Everything I love. And if you guys wanna laugh... like really laugh... Look up 'Tommy Davidson on Square Dancing!'
A very insightful and thorough story of one of THE most innovative shows in television! I LOVED this program as it was soooo funny!! I remember many of the sketches and continued watching these talented ppl as they grew their careers. Told everybody I knew(before social media ya know) about the show. I'm up in Toronto Canada and the humour absolutely flew as the folks I hung with at that time, ate it up! Great work by Jane for Short in pulling all of this together. Will watch part 2 later. Thanks for giving history to one of the BEST shows. I miss seeing the Wayans family as they are an extremely talented group, and their love for each other is awesome to witness!!!
Jamie Foxx, J-Lo & Jim Carey were really the only ones whose careers took off from this show becoming more wealthier than the Wayans. Such handsome men. I hope they have more opportunities for successful projects.
I feel am soooooo very gratefully blessed and highly favored by my heavenly God and his son, Jesus Christ, my Savior to have lived to view the premire of "In Living Color," As well as many of the episodes it presented that had my sides splitting with laughter, so many times as I did my homework, after a school day had ended. Thank you, Waynes family members and its many writers, producers, and treasured groups of outstanding talented guest artists!!❤🙏😁
Thank you for this great documentary! Very nostalgic! I was 12-13 yo when ILC premiered, and I was instantly hooked. It was a must watch for me and all my friends. Then later in the night was the Arsenio Hall show, which I also loved. ILC was the younger, hipper version of SNL, while Arsenio was the late night talk show for the younger, hipper demographic. Rumors were swirling about a possible ILC reunion show/season with most of the original cast agreeing to return. I read somewhere that FOX was all for it, but wouldn't give Keenan complete control of the show (production, direction, editing, etc) so he refused to do it. Maybe they can get a deal on another platform like Netflix or Hulu. 🤞
I actually cover this in part two. Keenen was onboard for the reboot and they shot most of the pilot, but Keenen thought it wasn't feasible. Also, Keenen was the only OG to sign on. Damon refused to sign on because Fox wouldn't pay him adequately. None of the other OG cast members mentioned it to my knowledge. Thanks for watching!
Its funny that the narrator and even others around the show were puzzled by David Allen Griers Jamaican accent for the Hey Mon sketch sounding Irish but this is actually historically accurate as that is where the Jamaican accent actually comes from as the very first slaves in the North Americas and especially the Carribean were white and Irish. Yes.dont get it twisted, they were slaves, some also were indentured servants but treated exactly the same. They were eventually housed with the African slaves that the Europeans bought in African slave markets from the other Africans who had enslaved them. The use of Irish slaves started to die out early on because they could not physically withstand the relentless tropical sun like their datker pigmented African brothers could. But by then, the Irish slaves who had taught their fellow black captors english, had left their irish accent with them and then the accent evolved into what we know of today.
I am so thankful for your work on this Waynes Documentary. Their family has been just as much impactful for for society as the Jacksons were musically! They did it for hip hop culture, as well racial connections. Inspired generations of Classic comedy and beyond!
Great video and info. Can't imagine the amount of time that you spent researching and editing to put this video together. Great job. I love this show growing up. It was definitely a show that you had to watch on Sunday night in order to talk about when you got to school Monday morning. That's all the kids would talk about. Thank you for putting this together.
For all of ya’ll making negative comments, its not necessary unless you will complete your own video documentary or have the means to produce and write (motion picture status) a movie about the WAYANS’ life . This was well put together and I appreciate learning so much about them that I did not know.
This was my favorite show to watch to take me away from my stress filled life in the early 90's🎉❤😂😊 I used to dance on stage to Heavy D songs and the crowds loved it🎉😊❤ I think this show paved the way for Dave Chappelle's show🎉😂❤
The day after every episode, school friends would just be discussing our favourite scenes and sketches. This is clearly what TV is lacking today . Risk takers and innovators. Much respect the Legends associated. Big part of my child hood viewing.
Man they’re such a beautiful family my family is huge if we wasn’t playing football it was in living color, Wayne’s bros, and all of there movies man they kept us out of trouble!
WOW! This was so well researched and put together. Thanks for the hard work and I appreciate your talent. I grew up watching this show but didn't know anything about the origin story of the Wayans brothers.
I'm just starting this so I can't comment on the video itself, but I can say thank you for the idea and all the work you did to bring it to us. I was in the 8th grade when ILC started so this brings me back to happier times. Thank you.
My uncle got his first job as a producer from in living color. The Wayans made such an impact on him that he (a white Jewish Midwestern man) mostly produced black television shows including Bernie Mac show, black-ish, grown-ish, and mixed-ish.
Oh my God, I've been looking for a Wayne's family documentary for such a long time. I will also like to see a Robert Townsend one. Thank you for uploading this
