What happened to him was an absolute disgrace for the scientific community. And teller rightfully deserved being black listed and shunned by everyone until the end of his life for what he did. My grandfather worked for Sandia in the 60's and met Oppenheimer when he was doing the lectures in the universities. He told me he could tell Oppenheimer was intensely depressed and hadn't recovered from the security hearings much at all.

The actor who played Teller said he was doing research on him for the role. I guess years later after the hearings and Kennedy invited them to the White House, when he stuck his hand out, Kitty didn’t do it back. She never forgot his betrayal. I guess he went home and cried. Good on her for that. She basically couldn’t do anything about it, and seeing her husband deteriorate and see his life and friends betray you like that.

People in those fields, especially considering the context of the topics in their scenes, do tend to do a lot of talking. It would be unrealistic if they didn’t, so also realistic for there to be so much in the movie.

Truman had personal blood on his hands.. It's a lot different.. Truman was an officer on the frontlines in WWI in 1918. A film like this is analogous to a large, intricate hieroglyphic description of an epic historical event/person expertly carved into an ancient Egyptian temple wall. It elaborately describes a great historical event to the masses with a larger-than-life character manipulating the world to suit his needs, with all the pomp and embellishment that the hieroglyphics would illustrate. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

So he was already a potential murderer in his youth, but escaped judgement because the apple was not eaten, and the whole thing was brushed under the rug? How such a small detail changed the course of history. Had Hitler been accepted in Arts school, WW2 could have been avoided. Had Oppenheimer been tried for attempted murder, maybe we never would have gotten so far with nuclear weapons? I don't have a doubt Cillian will be excellent in his role. He always is. What a great actor.

Not being accepted into art school wasn’t the primary reason hitler became hitler. He was already a trouble person at a young age due to an abusive father. Would the development of nuclear weapons be a bad thing? If we didn’t have the scientists producing them during the time of war, Germany would have had the first nuclear weapon and the United States, along with its allies, would have been under their mercy. Hitler would have won.

Even at the age of 62, J Robert Oppenheimer looked like he was 85 or 86. He aged like spoiled goat milk.

So sad that such a brilliant man was overtaken by cigarettes…62 is incredibly young. Happened to Walt Disney, too. I hate cigarettes.

Robert Oppenheimer had to hold that burden after the murdering of killing hundreds of innocent, Japanese civilians, families, and children in which that he will never forgive himself for, but hopefully he will now find peace and forgiveness for what he is done

Used his brilliance to create weapons which could/did kill people. The man was a monster. There is no winner in war and no deterrent either. Odious man

Who exactly does Roosevelt come to a point where he calls for the creation of something that doesn't exist and no one has ever seen? I'm failing to understand how Roosevelt could have been knowledgeable on a non existent technology.

The poisoned apple story is much more interesting in real life. They made it so silly in the movie.

First and foremost i thought the 2023 film was great. I have such mixed feelings on oppenheimer. Great admiration and respect for the work hes created and his contributions. But its hard to fully respect a man who tried poisoning his Professor and had an affair(s) while married

Just saying. That photo of Oppenheimer as a child standing next to his dad. Pretty sure his dad has been reincarnated into Casey Affleck. Pause at 1:26 mins in. Try deny me 😎

No matter how intelligent boys take longer to grow up. Being from a protective background middle class back ground would have held him back. The poison apple and the lack of understanding about the damage of the a bomb makes me feel he lacked feelings of humanity.

So... How did the rest of the world get the receipe to how to make an Atom bomb too? Or did they each had their own Oppenheimer?

Watch Oppenheimer. There were spies within the testing group at los alamos. Germany was also ahead during the earlier stages of creating a nuclear bomb bc they had better physicists and more time to develop it
