The Trust Test 

One of the biggest mistakes I made in my corporate career was assuming that others trusted me. I place a very high value on trust, and I mistakenly assumed that everyone knew I had their best interest at heart. But the truth is that trust is earned, built over time, and requires intentional action.
My misstep damaged working relationships and even eroded the trust others had in me. Once I realized my error, I had a good bit of clean-up work to do! I also had to reassess how others earn my trust.
How can you avoid this pitfall? You start by asking yourself:
1. What am I actively doing to build trust?
2. How do I know that others trust me?
How can you tell that you have earned a colleague’s trust?
