I love that newedges are starting to get way more love over the last couple of years, great cars and like you said common, cheap parts and a lot of aftermarket support

It helps to have company's step up to the plate make some parts specifically for drifting. Years ago I had a 93 Mustang and nobody at that time offered anything close to angle kit for them 👎🏻

I learned how to drive in a 2002 Roush Mustang. That learning experience included some donuts, figure 8s and entry level skids. 🙂 You're right about the terrible factory steering angle but other than that, these cars make a lot of sense. That Roush happens to be my mother's one owner car and I plan on taking it over when she's ready to part with it. It's a stage 2, recently supercharged with 330 whp and 350 tq. ❤

@Typical_Garage It was indeed! My first time out of a parking lot after figuring the clutch, I pulled out and began an 8 hour road trip. I also hit 100 mph with my mom's permission! Lmao 😂 That car is about as close to family as a piece of metal can get. 💕

How do you has the suspension set up is it stiff in the rear or soft and how is the front set up as well. I just put in coil overs and I’m building a drift newedge
@Drunken_Hamster
@Drunken_Hamster 3 месяца назад
OH, pro tip for the steering angle. Apparently, there are sleeves or pucks or whatever in the factory steering rack that you can shorten or remove to get more travel. Chris Fix did that to his SN95 and I believe he gained 10-12 degrees of steering angle, getting it overall into the low-to-mid 40-degree range.
@Typical_Garage
@Typical_Garage 3 месяца назад
I did this and wasn't that impressed with the difference. like from driving experience, there was much of a noticeable change
@Drunken_Hamster

BTW you don't need to LS swap it. Twisted Wedge 2V heads and a David Vizard spec cam will get you at or above 400whp. Could push it even higher with a high-compression build and some port-biasing work (like what David does) to the twisted wedge heads. As far as the exhaust issue, well, I assume part of the problem is that the driveshaft has to have a travel distance due to live axle problems. So a "fix" that I theorize might be a bit easier than a full IRS conversion (especially IRS with GOOD geometry and strength, quite unlike the Cobra IRS) would be to build and convert the car to a De-Dion axle with a Satchell Link. Bonus points if you do it with a Corvette-style rear-CV transaxle and use inboard brakes, too.
@Typical_Garage
@Typical_Garage 3 месяца назад
I agree that an LS swap isn't essential but it is one of the most practical swaps for guys starting off in a base model V6 car.
@claytoncsonka6847

I would definitely say upgrade the entire rear end on the sn95/new edge bc I put a LSD carrier in mine, 4.10 and 31 spline axels and I haven't had any issues with it
@Typical_Garage
@Typical_Garage 5 месяцев назад
I think gearing should depend on what type of power is being made. 4.10's with a stock 4.6 2v is a solid option. I went 3.73 because a cammed GM 5.3 makes a bit more power than that.

@JoeyMagana
@JoeyMagana 5 месяцев назад
I agree, this lack of steering angle just sucks to deal with. I just bought an angle kit and coilovers basically out of necessity. My clutch packs failed twice already in less than a year, so Im just gonna weld it after i slap a dual caliper set up on it. Why did you LS swap btw? I know the 2v aint really worth upgrading
@Typical_Garage
@Typical_Garage 5 месяцев назад
angle kit, coilovers and a good diff is really all it takes for these cars. As far as why I did the LS is because this car was originally a V6. After I sent 2 rods through the oil pan I decided I wasn't putting another V6 back in. lol

Could not agree with everything you said more man. I drift a 1998 gt. I did a tko trans with a twin disc, because trick flow heads, cams, forged rods and pistons, bigger valves, link ecu, 200 shot of nitrous. I did a full drift domestic front end, fortune auto coilovers, ksport front brakes and I built my own handbrake setup....just like the rest of the car actually. I built the engine myself (didn't even take it to the machine shopy car had 89,000 miles when I bought it. In the wrapper. I did all bbk rear arms because its good stuff. I got her down to 3020 with me in it. I'm 6'5 240. Still has a/c and I haul a Bluetooth speaker around with me for tunes when I have a good lookin passenger. However I built my exhaust out of oval tubing from vibrant. I paid the money for a 6 foot length of it and I gotta say, it was TOTALLY worth it. My headers meet into the 2 inch thick 4 inch wide oval, pie cuts to get a 45° bend, out right before the passenger rear wheel cut at the same angle as the body. It makes 440 barefoot and 650 on spray. More than enough for me. My car never breaks, it always starts and she's an absolute monster. 305s on the back 285 up front.

@@Typical_Garage brother ur a fellow slidy boi AND a mustang guy. You can ask me whatever the F you want. Honestly it depends on the layout. At grange I don't even use the bottle. But at my local track outside of Reno, Nevada the bottle runs empty after the 4th set of tires is dusted. The bottle lasts pretty much all day. I do have a full throttle activation. I put a floor mounted BMW right pedal in my car. They have that little click at wide open throttle which is what activates the solenoid. I arm the system with the fog light button, windshield washer is my purge. Lotta repinning but, it was worth it.

@Typical_Garage

@Typical_Garage
@Typical_Garage 3 месяца назад
I apologize for the late response but that setup doesn't sound like it'll work well. Lowering springs are still typically pretty soft and auto's don't do well in tight transitions. Is still welcome you to go out and give a try just don't set the expectations too high, ya know?

I picked up a shitbox 98 gt vert to use as a drift car, havent gotten to really do anything to it yet as other projects are ahead of it , but my main things I hate are the angle, and the 4.6, and the fact its a vert so I have to buy a cage
@Typical_Garage
@Typical_Garage 5 месяцев назад
If it's a 5 speed car, maybe you could source a hardtop and swap over the drivetrain unless you're dead set on having no top
@lowxpectations
@lowxpectations 5 месяцев назад
@Typical_Garage not dead set on not having a top, but prices on these damn cars are getting ridiculous and got the opportunity to get it off a buddy for cheap and even pay him here and there until it was paid off, plus it's in a condition that's probably just best used for drifting anyway, but it's a canvas I suppose and it's better than having nothing to work with at all, and it'll probably do ok with a little work, plus I suppose a cage would be cheaper than a whole other car, so I'll work with it, just those are the things I don't like about it is all
