I find it helpful to skip one of my regular grocery shops. For example, shop 3 weeks and then skip the next week. I find this helps me to use up some of the ambitious bulk purchases I might have made. ‘Cause I sure can get ambitious in the grocery store, lol!
Don’t forget you can absolutely put extra loaves of bread in the freezer until you’re ready to eat it. I always buy 2 or 3 loaves at a time and put the extra in the freezer. I wouldn’t stock up 6 months worth but a couple in the freezer at a time is worth it.
We are a family of six and buying in bulk we discovered only makes sense of I am going to take the time to separate and store things correctly. I have a food saver and a canner, if I don’t break things down into appropriate sizes as soon as I get home we either end up eating too much because we don’t want it to go bad or we don’t finish it in time…
With 8 kids, not only can we eat everything in the bulk package, but we spend enough at Costco that the $120 membership now pays for itself. And since our current month's budget is based on last month's income, I have a whole month's worth of grocery money at my disposal when I go to Costco at the beginning of the month.
My husband and I are paid 2x a month. The Saturday morning after we get paid, I go to Sam's. My main purchase items are dish detergent, laundry detergent, and a few grocery items.
Pro Tip - if perishables spoil before using them, then simply start a compost bin and add the spoiled perishables to the heap (especially greens), once the compost is ready use it as fertilizer/soil amendments for your gardens or lawns.
I go shopping for groceries at Netto, Aldi or Lidl like once a week (Friday) and it has made a huge difference 😀 Of course if I need milk one day in the middle of the week, I can still buy it.
We have to drive over 45 mins for the nears Costco or Sam's Club. And this is exactly why we don't have a membership it either. I'm a saving shopper so in the end I get most things for cheaper then the drive, membership, and items would cost. Just got GF pasta for $1 each box (regular price over $3 a box.) Yes I bought all 29 box they had on clearance!!! )
I love WinCo because it doesn't have a membership, is almost always a buck or two cheaper (or more) whatever the item, and they have an amazing bulk bin section. I grew up going to Costco and really like them too if it's worth it for your family but was less impressed with Sam's when we moved to an area where that was the only thing
Fighting 7.5% inflation (more like 15%) with a 1% fed funds interest rate is like stopping a Forest fire with a bucket of water. Folks prepare accordingly. Make investment in other not to depend on the government for funds
It's surprising to know that "99.9% of billionaires are secret investors in bitcoin!!! It's where they grow their billion dollars portfolio. The rich does what the poor is scared of doing!!!
Everyone needs more than there salary to be financially stable.the best thing to do with your money is to invest it rightly, because money left for saving always end up used with no returns.
@Annabelle Curtis Interesting. I have a lump sum doing absolutely nothing at all in my bank account, I wanna get something started with it. You seem to be doing excellent for yourself, how do you achieve this?
Of all the physical stores in this item, we here in the UK only have Lidl - none of the others even exist over here - yes, we have Amazon as an online outlet - we have things like Tesco and Morrison’s and Iceland - some areas even have Waitrose and Farmfoods and Heron - but, with some places being cheaper than others, going to some of these places is out of the question if you have to do a 100+ mile round trip to get there - you make no savings if you have to do it by bus - even if you get one of those all-day tickets!
Batteries in bulk but ONLY if you go through a lot of batteries. We bought a big pack at Sam's but we don't use them as much as we used to when my son was younger and had a lot of battery operated things....they do loose some of their power after time if you don't use them often.
I personally dont think costco saves you much money unless you arent willing to do any coupon clipping or have time to search for the best deals. Toilet paper, trash bags and most household items are cheaper when bought with coupons and store deals even comparing name brand to their store brand. Diapers are significantly cheaper at target if you use coupons and store rewards, among other places. Most food items have negligable differences outside of their produce, their produce is a great deal if you will go through it or are able to freeze it but i think most americans dont eat much produce anyways from observation. Yogurt would be cheaper buying in a big container instead of those little cups and you could use coupons or store discounts for that too, or just get an off brand somewhere else. Theyre great if you have a large gathering to host just for convenience but i spent more shopping at costco then i do almost anywhere else and still dont get half the items i need, plus they are no longer close enough to me to be worth the trip.
Should you buy in bulk if it's only 2 people living in the home? I love to eat and grill out and she doesn't eat that much but we enjoy going to Sam's and BJ's. We have to drive over 2 hours to go to a Costco and did not renew our membership, but man I sure do like Costco.
We live in a rural area so the Sams plus membership is awesome for us. Almost everything is free ship. Saves big on gas for us since the nearest Sams is two counties away. As long as the items are in stock 😅
