Another ADVANTAGE of Cat 7 (because of the extra shielding) is reduced RF emissions. Which is why I was an early adopter of it because I liked to listen to distant AM radio stations and it helped tremendously, as does putting all electrical wiring in metallic conduit to shield it. It also made a huge difference in speed on a gigabit network over Cat 5E (I have no experience with 6 or 6E). I won't bother mentioning several other advantages because I see others have already mentioned them. I will say, I was hoping for more substance in this video, like comparison testing.

@fwaynedavis

You are technically correct concerning data rates and for sure most folks will not need CAT7. However you are way off regarding the shielding. Connectors for Cat 7 are indeed handling the shield properties, and doing so has massive benefits for reduction on noise. Your argument that the shielding is negated by "RJ45" is incorrect, proof is there are shielded cat 5, 6 that use the same RJ45 method essentially giving a electrical path for the noise to drain. Electrically the shielding is not negated at all with a proper RJ45 or Keystone termination. Your observation narrowly views the situation from a single cable. When used in a much more common (for cat 7) server/multicable environment, the shielding is impressive. Ethernet cables with shielding like this saves us from electromagnetic interference from common sources like light ballasts, transformers, AC electrical, and of course RF. A real-world Example: I manage Audio Visual equipment for my church. Our digital projectors were having trouble using HDMI-Ethernet extenders. We switched from cat-6 to Cat-7 with no change in equipment and the problem solved. The issue was the pathway paralleled the cable along a wall with AC power cables and an audio system snake. The shielding was the benefit. Also it does not need to be grounded on both ends to be effective, except for very specific conditions. This is well known in AV as the Ground-loop issue.

I recently worked an application extending the DMARC from P3 to the 9th floor of a downtown office bldg, approximately 490'. Cat 5e didn't make it down the dumb elevator shaft without breaking some strands, clearly, reinforcement is needed. Both distance and peace of mind shielding made this CAT7 the winning product.

Don't forget the increase of bandwidth from 500MHz vs 1000MHz. Also the improvements in shielding. If you're taking the time to install between walls in your home go with CAT7. Worth it as FIOS will continue increasing in coverage and speeds over the next decade.

You can't ever make use of the benefits of CAT 7s 1000MHz frequency and shielding if it's terminated to RJ45. i Would got for CAT 6a or wait for the next official standard from TIA (as CAT7 is not recognised by TIA)

Please explain why you contend that one can't find (make) a flat CAT6A(CAT7) cable. In other words could you explain why the available (there are many) flat cables where each of the twisted pair is individually shielded and then the whole shielded and drained are functionally inferior to the same construction but with a Rond cross section. I don't understand. Answers can be in the form of English, British English or multivariable calculus, Im trilingual.
@BuzStringer
@BuzStringer 5 лет назад
There are some flat CAT6a cables and there has been some innovations since I posted this video. But the Spec for CAT6a requires 23awg wire in twisted pairs. While you can lay 4 twisted pairs side by side a put a sleeve around around them it will still be quite thick and not very flat, it will be thinner but wider. There are issues with this, the wire can be pulled around tighter bends, but that increases the chances of the wire breaking. A flat formation also increases the chance of crosstalk/interference from other cables. I would always stick with the intended design for cat cables. If you have found success with good durability and reliability for flat cables please share them. But for cat6 and above i will always go for round over flat.

I bought a CAT 7 cable, 100 ft. in the hopes of boosting speed, and my speed was reduced to 40 mbs. I'm guessing the cable was bad, Amazon reviews had a number of similar complaints. Cat 7 has no speed or performance gains over Cat 6/a in a normal environment. No consumer equipment can make use of the extra grounding, it's for specialist applications. CAT7 is not an officially recognised standard, so the spec could be anything really. Go for Cat 6 or Cat 6a (for longer distances) which is a recognised TIA standard. You are not losing out on anything, in fact probably better peace of mind using a recognised standard.

@BuzStringer
@BuzStringer 2 года назад
Just FYI, flat cable doesn't meet the standard, the spec includes, the twists, core and wire gauge. It's impossible to have a flat in spec cable because it has to be twisted around a core and the flattest a cable could be, is the diameter of all the twisted pairs plus the core, which would make it larger than an in spec cable. What you have, is an out of spec ethernet cable that only by chance meets your requirements. Which is fine, but the whole point of the video is be careful. Because there are a lot of cable cowboys out there and when they label their product CAT7 it could be anything because they don't have to follow any standard.

cat6/cat6a/cat7 is rated for 10gps, whilst cat5e is only rated for 1gps. Cat 5e was introduced when gigabit internet and Ethernet switches was first introduced. So its quite old that's why its only Rated for 1gps due to the age and that's all you had back in the early days of gigabit. Plus its old tech, cat5e is still widely used for gigabit connections and fiber internet, but cat6/6a/7 is better for fiber internet. If you want better and faster connections get a cable capable of 10gps. but speeds are dependent on your ISP and distance from your ISP to your location.
@longlifeprinters9

Cat6 can go up to 10 gbps but almost nobody has equipment that can provide over 1 Gbps, comcast & fiber are usually throttling their speed to each user to under 1 Gbps, which is great speed by the way.
