Environmental Geosciences Undergraduate here: polyethylene is 100% not good for the environment. It causes serious deformities and reproductive issues in wildlife and while it is still difficult to completely understand the long term consequences we do know that it is negatively impacting the biological systems of marine life and coral reefs. Thank you for posting this! After learning this I looked into how many cleansing balms contain polyethylene, many of which claim to be "cruelty-free" and "clean beauty brands" (i.e. Farmacy, Glow Recipe, etc.). I think this is an ingredient we need to draw more attention to and make sustainably minded consumers more aware of. Thank you for helping me become more educated on this form of micro plastics!

Clinique changed my skin!!! Idk if I could ever give it up. I had cystic acne and I’m very sensitive, but I’ve never struggled with Clinique at all! Plus the alcohol that is used in the clarifying lotions is a specifically trademarked alcohol that is NOT the same as Isopropyl. Plus, it is supposed to be stripping, it strips off dead skin and dirt which increases absorption of moisturiser. It’s NOT to be used alone. I swear by it 👀

Moisture surge is literally the only thing that has saved my skin from constant cracking and drying. I remember in 8th grade, I went on a trip with my class to Rome and Spain, and I got the worst face sunburn I’ve ever had. I only had the tiny little moisture surge travel size tube my mom gave me and I PUT THAT SHIT ONNNN. It healed my skin in a week and I didn’t come home with this disgusting peeling, red skin. I’ve been a fan ever since and it’s the one skincare product I will continue to purchase.

@A Diana Grajeda try a hydrating toner, if you're not using one already. It's a nice way to add a boost of hydration to your skin without adding heaviness and greasiness. I really like the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner, but there are so many to choose from.
@Donteverlook4videos
@Donteverlook4videos 4 года назад
You are oily BECAUSE you are dehydrated. Use a chemical exfoliant and water based moisturizer as well as a really good hyaluronic acid skincare. Make sure it reads sodium hyaluronate instead of hyaluronic acid on the label. It’s molecularly smaller and more readily absorbed by the skin. Also if you don’t want to spend a ton get cosrx

Idk, the clinique clarifying lotion is my favorite toner, that I have used since my mid-20s. I'm in my mid-30s, and have tried many many brands of toners. It does NOT burn my skin at all, does not cause any redness/irritation, and is VERY different from the toners found in drug stores. It exfoliates my skin in the best way possible for me. I have seen my cotton circle dark with the day's dirt on my face when using this product, whereas i see nothing even close to that on having used other toner brands. Maybe my skin isn't sensitive, so it loves this product. My pores are nice and tight. My skin is left feeling fresh and clean. As for the dramatically different gel, I love that I can apply this and not feel my face is all greasy. You must really do have sensitive skin- I have never had any irritation from using this product. Those are the only two skin care products I use from Clinique at this time. The price is just right- the products are not overpriced. Guess if someone has a limited budget, I could see how the product would seem overpriced.

Except the toner which contains alcohol and I can't get near it.. I'm happy out. The last step which is foundation is like a magic wand on my face. Cleanser. (I use Simple product for toner). Serum. Moisturizer. Eye serum. Eye cream. Face primer. Moisturizer. Foundation. Loose powder. Everyday. I literally dont need Photoshop with my pics. Thank you Clinique.

As to the 3 step system: I absolutely LOVE the toner from clinique. I have been using it for about 10 years and when I used it after a few days I saw amazing results. When I replace it with another toner my skin texture looks horrible after about 10 days. The dramatically different lotion on the other hand has never done anything for me it just sits on the top of my skin. So I guess I have a total different experience.

its usually 1st - oil based cleanser 2nd - water based cleanser 3rd - exfoliate (as in personally I use something like a tool like Foreo to gently exfoliate the skin everyday it’s used with your water based cleanser) 4th - toner 5th - a chemical exfoliant (If you wish to use one, like lactic acid from the ordinary) 6th - serum 7th - moisturiser 8th - an optional face oil if you use one (like rose hip seed oil)

im in a water treatment program at my college. the stuff that goes down the drain goes straight to a waste water treatment plant via a sanitary sewer. sanitary meaning it goes straight from the house to the plant with some pump stations here and there to keep it going (there is also a stormwater sewer and a combined. combined are usually only used in DENSELY populated areas and require a very high capacity treatment plant, or many small ones, at the other end. very rarely do these overflow and usually the plants will make sure it has some form of treatment if that does happen OR the water is so diluted, from rain usually, that it wont have a significant impact if any. when i say "some form" i mean it usually goes thru the plant quicker. not just a splash of chlorine. most of the time when a plant is having high influent itll just reduce the detention time of everything or pump excess into a pond specifically for holding excess water that the plant cant handle) waste in the water received at the plant is filtered out using bar racks, chemicals, and clarifiers ( clarifiers allow the chemicals to work their magic and make the waste stick together causing it to either sink or float where it is then scraped off and put into another area to be either incinerated, dried out and taken to a suitable landfill, or converted into fertilizer. ***fun fact detroit sends ALL their waste over seas cause some company in europe likes it and uses it as fertilizer. these ppl litterally purchased it MANY yrs in advance. crazy right?***. there are also other clarifiers like trickling filters which use existing organism to clarify the water but that is also followed by a traditional clarifier cause these organism reproduce and fall off the media its on need to be filtered out) so really not a lot of the stuff we put down our drains really ends up in the ocean. (granted some of it probably does, but not a huge amount. which ya. that little bit is still realy bad) it, for the most part, ends up in landfills, the air, and our feilds. which is still a reason not to use these things. like do yall really wanna be BREATHING that stuff in? so really it ends up somewhere even worse than the ocean. cause in the air, itll slowly kill anything on the land including trees. which are like.....the main reason earth is habitable. and here is where i plug teamtrees.org/ $1 equals 1 tree closer to saving the friken planet from the sun's fiery rays. in other words Hyram says " YALL SHOULD BE WEARING SUNSCREEN" and he is friken right. so why not help earth put her sunscreen on? hmmm? HMMMM? you heard me. you heard hyram. suncreen is important. trees are earth's sunscreen. lets plant some trees. ***another fun fact. the world has lost about half of its original trees since the rise of humans. thats concerning dont ya think?*** have a beautiful day fam

I’d be wary of using something like that for that long. For anything DIY like that you’ve got a week, tops. Anything longer than that probably shouldn’t be used. Not that you should be really using DIY skin care because you’re not filtering anything, there’s nothing to preserve its freshness and integrity, which means it could start growing mold and bacteria. Plus, how do you know for certain that you are using the right amounts and concentrations of everything? You run a very big risk to your skin and your health with DIY skin care, so please be careful.

Biggest thing with the clarifying lotions: the skin type two clarifying lotion is one of the only clarifying lotions they make with no salicylic acid. If the alcohol bothers you, there's the 1.0 clarifying lotion that does still have a chemical exfoliant in it without alcohol. I used to work for Clinique for 4 years... I'm not saying he's wrong and I'm not here to sing the praises of Clinique (there's a reason I left) but I didn't really think it was a great analysis of the clarifying lotions since he covered the one formula of them that is pretty different from the 4 others that exist (it's also the only one, to my knowledge, that has menthol in it). Also, with moisture surge 72 hr: the point of the 72hr thing is NOT to tell people not to keep it on that long, the product is supposed to be made with ingredients that sink into the skin and continue to help repair/strengthen the moisture barrier even after you wash your face. I'm no scientist so maybe that was bullshit that they told us when they trained us (I'm not counting this out) but in no way is that company telling people to not wash their face for days at a time 😆
@layniewolfe
@layniewolfe 2 года назад
I agree about the clarifying lotion!!! The 2.0 is way too strong for me, but I use the 1.0 and it’s my favorite toner of all time!!! Doesn’t irritate my skin at all and it makes me feel so refreshed and it actually removes excess debris off my face. sometimes I’ll use it without the cleanser and the moisturizer if I’m in a hurry. Question for you since you used to work there, what is the difference between the dramatically different lotion and the gel? Which is better?
@izzieferreira10
@izzieferreira10 2 года назад
@@layniewolfe the difference is that the lotion is for dry/normal skin. The gel is for oily/combo skin. The best one to use depends on your skin type. I personally like the dramatically different jelly because it’s also an anti pollutant and it also helps restore the skins barrier.

i‘ve been struggling with my skin since i was a kid, having not pimples but many little bumps on my cheeks. my skin skips between rlly fucking dry to way to oily. i‘m also allergic to pollen and dust which make my face sometimes breakout or at least worsen the bumps which i then have on my whole face. i had a hard time buying skincare products as i didnt find any labeled for the issues i had. i went through a lot of overexfoliation and overmoisturizing. one year ago i bought the clinique set for dry combination skin and after i stopped using the clarifying lotion (which made my face burn like hell) and only going in with the liquid facial soap in mild and the dramatically different moisturizing lotion (the one for very dry to dry combination) i never had to touch any other skincare product again. it took away all the stress my skin caused me, holding it in balance. i just love how simple the products are and they made me realize that most products i used before only caused more problems. the only thing i wish is moisturizer also containing spf as i hate going in with another cream which often make me break out. i hope they never discontinue this line as these products are my holy grail

@jenniferrobinson139
@jenniferrobinson139 4 года назад
@@maticbukovac6966 I'm aware there's many different compounds in most essential oil formulae but the issue is the oils themselves are often irritants and the benefits for them being applied directly to the skin are backed up with sponsored research done by the people selling these oils. Natural products do work; aspirin is found in tree bark, it's just we now have the facilities to concentrate it to much higher amounts making it considerably more concentrated and therefore more useful. Pure essential oils can be useful; peppermint oil is used all the time with IBS, but applied directly to facial skin it would cause damage. Essential oils in cosmetics are often at very dilute concentrations so probably aren't harmful, but to get the benefits you'd need pretty much pure essential oils which would be damaging to the face. My point with water facilities was that scientific research has progressed massively in the last 2000 years so why would I copy what people did a millennia ago? I wouldn't follow their medical advice why would I follow their skincare routines. Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever agree, as our views conflict on most issues- farming and big corp. Big corp are buying up natural beauty they don't need to sabotage it- burts bees for example (I used to love them before they were sold off, I don't hate all things natural lol). Here is a full sourced article with links to official published data regarding organic; blogs.scientificamerican.com/science-sushi/httpblogsscientificamericancomscience-sushi20110718mythbusting-101-organic-farming-conventional-agriculture/ this just covers it better than I could. And finally I went to Durham University, a UK top 5 University, and world top 100. The Pharmacy school has now moved to Newcastle University where the school currently stands as no.1 Pharmacy school in the UK. The way you asked was a tad patronising as I'm not sure why it's relevant but I felt the need to defend my position. If you want a copy of my degree or my pharmacist registration number I'd be happy to send it directly.

@@maticbukovac6966 You seem to be under the impression that just because essential oils are "natural" they're good for you. Just because something is natural, it doesn't mean it's good for the skin on your face, which is the most sensitive skin tissue on your body. Doesn't matter what it's called in Eastern Europe, they called "holy water" holy and guess what, it doesn't do anything. If they work for you, great, your skin isn't as sensitive as others, however research shows that for the majority of people it's a known irritant. This isn't some sort of crusade against natural remedies, it's just scientifically proven facts.

As a skin therapist and esthetician, I would not recommend using moisturizer under the eyes as it can cause milia. The skin around the eyes is extremely delicate and thin so anything too rich/heavy like moisturizer would lead to milia formation. You can however blend your nositurizer with a little water to dilute the consistency to prevent that from happening, but I would recommend an eye gel (ex: Yerba mate gel from Good Molecules) or lightweight cream for around the eyes.

Hey, Hyram! Any chance you could review the e.l.f. skincare line? I’ve only been using one product (the Hydrating Water Essence) because some of the first ingredients are good ones: glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and niacinimide. There’s a lot of product for a low price which I love but I wanted to know your thoughts.

Ashley Lynn Waldron so hyaluronic acid on the label is a no no. You want to look for sodium hyaluronate instead because it’s molecularly smaller and more readily absorbed by your skin.

I've always had the curiosity on male and women skincare: is our skin so different that we need separate formulas or is this just marketing? one thing i noticed is that in the men skincare Alcohol is higher up on the list always.
@chazitybontempo2681
@chazitybontempo2681 4 года назад
Abydos1star I think generally men’s skin tends to be thicker and more oily. But all in all, I think that skincare isn’t gender specific when it comes to the ingredients. I think you just have to identity what type of skin you have, and use ingredients that react well with that skin type. That is a good point though considering women especially have so many different hormone fluctuations, that men don’t experience, And hormones play a role in our skin.
@MollyFC

I think the one thing they have to account for is facial hair but I dont think they should be too different.
@daveault3379
@daveault3379 4 года назад
Generally speaking, men have more facial hair, thicker skin, larger pores, and tend to be more oily. But to differentiate men’s skincare vs. women’s skincare is strictly a marketing ploy. At the end of the day, skin is skin and as long as you are using products for your specific skin type and skin concerns, that is all that matters. Most of the time brands will put “men’s” products with the word “men” on it with black, grey, blue, or orange packaging, but 99.99% of the time it’s the exact formulation for the “women’s” version.

I used to work for Clinique and it used to HURT my SOUL to sell the Clarifying Lotion to people. I literally stopped recommending the 3 step system to people because I couldn’t handle convincing people putting that on their faces was a good idea. I also hate the Liquid Facial Soap. It’s just bad. Verrry drying. Moisture Surge is the best and is what I ended up recommending to most people who came to the counter looking for new skincare. I’m glad you agree!

Hey, your comment is super interesting.. what do you think about the clarifying lotion for very oily skin ? You consider all the clarifying lotions from them as not good for the skin? I read some very good reviews about it and is currently thinking bout getting it. I hope you reply, thanks in advance

@KentuckyLiz 3 года назад
Interesting...I like the liquid soap for oily skin and the clarifying lotion 3 but these only make sense if followed by a moisturizer. DDM gel or jelly for me. If I did Moisture Surge only, my face would be one huge patch of milia. The exfoliants are absolutely necessary as part of the process. Thanks for sharing your perspective from experience!

Also I get what you mean about the clarifying lotion but using it once or twice a week is the only thing that kills my body acne.

Kay Knofi I use Clinique’s Moisture Surge Intense. I have super-dry skin and the Intense is, in my experience, the most moisturizing in the Moisture Surge line. I’ve been using it for years and still love how dewy and moist my face and skin are when I wake up. I haven’t tried the 72 hour Moisture Surge, but I have read some comments that it leaves your skin feeling dry/dehydrated or the opposite. I suggest getting samples of both and comparing them. Hope this helps!😊🌼

I have an extra sensitive and allergic skin, and Clinique is the absolute only brand that both doesn't give me any rash and personally ever since I switched to Cruelty Free brands, to this day, I've never found any other skin care products that leave my skin as soft as Dramatically products ever did. I finally gave up and I'm buying Clinique again. My face needs it and also the chubby sticks lip moisture, dear god it's the only thing that makes my lips actually moist and not look all cracked. I'm going to share with you some wisdom from my dermatologist: you can have the most expensive beauty product and it can simply not work on your skin, and some times just a cheap hipoallergenic ingredient is going to do it for you, so I'm sorry you had a bad experience with some Clinique products, but I think saying that it's 100% bad or 100% good is a bit over the top because everyone has different skin types. I agree though that Clinique has ridiculous prices 🙄 Some people like me have a delicate skin that can only use their products and their prices are very abusive.
