If I’m Travis Hunter, I’m going to JSU with Prime. Prime is tapped in with a lot of CEO’s of fortune 500 companies. Prime got the largest company in the country to donate a practice field to JSU. Having Deion Sanders in my personal network is more attractive than a big time booster from Georgia or Florida State.
@rootofallevi
@rootofallevi Год назад
It’s easy to say that when you not Travis. If Travis went to Georgia believe me he would be a automatic lock for the nfl draft when eligible
@kickegueadimenia6494
@kickegueadimenia6494 Год назад
So that’s more or less proving Doug’s point. Travis Hunter going to JSU was 110% about Coach Prime-nothing about the “cultural” significance of being at an HBCU.
@Matt-cr4vv
@Matt-cr4vv 10 месяцев назад
Oh that’s 100% obvious. You aren’t going to see a recruit at Travis Hunters level electing to attend a JSU over a Georgia or FSU without Prime being in the picture. Frankly, it would be negligent as a mentor or parent to even let your kid make that choice without a Prime being there because as harsh as it is to say the underfunding and lack of resources at those schools in normal operations without a Prime would be a serious risk to your development and potential of going pro. But with Prime involved you still keep those things on the right path to reach your potential. But I also think multiple things can be true. It’s undeniable the top reason to have attended that school if you had other options available is Prime but it’s also just as possible that culture is an added benefit some enjoyed while there. But the idea of culture being the primary recruiting attraction there was never realistic but may have been said by some as it appears more noble to them than just saying what everybody always knew that the entire allure of JSU was Prime.

Deion’s philosophy: “Imma get mine,” now if you come up in the process of me gettin’ mine, then cool, but imma get mine!” Everything he did at JSU was for Deion!!! JSU and HBCU’s got what was leftover. They call him “Coach Prime,” not Coach Sanders, he has theme music that HE comes out to “The Man Right Chea!” He walked into his meeting with Colorado players to “All Eyes On Me,” how much more evidence do you need to see that DEION is a narcissist!! He walked around the stadium before each game to hear the cheers of the fans!! Don’t get it twisted, it’s all about “Coach Prime!”

Now the logical steps would be to begin to make nois in the fcs playoffs of which I belive both jsu and nccu could have made it past the first 2 rounds in the playoffs thos year. Just as the p5 conferences are changing yearly we have to also. I belive the byou classic has to be moved in order for our season to end in the same time the fcs playoffs start so that we can have representation there. That's how you begin to level up the playing field. And as our student see that we can play non hcbu schools and win they will give our schools a chance. Second instead of playing the money games as coach said we could play say the univ of Memphis, Tulsa, Western Kentucky, Ohio Toledo and win. ( just think if jsu, famu, southern were to play Memphis that city would be rockin) doing that further makes the executives at the television networks see that our fans will travel and would come up with favorable television contracts to show our games. Hell if the MAC can do it so can we. Once that happens we won't need an ex star player to come we could land the assit coached from the p5 schools to come and bring thier recruiting talents with them. That is how you lay the foundation and then build upon it.

Yes he said IF a power 5 was interested he would CONSIDER it but he also made contradictory statements that made it seem like he was there for a bigger purpose. All in all, I understand why he took the Colorado job, I also understood the dream he was selling was never going to happen nor was he sincere about it. If you're trying to recruit athletes away from a power 5, what else can you offer other than doing it for the culture.

@@Overseabro is it though? While I get your argument about people just complaining and not doing anything, there are some questions looming. Since Coach Prime left, are those sponsors, donations, and resources gonna leave with him? Remember, Coach Prime got them that stadium, those multiple uniforms, the chartered Airline flights, Gameday to come to JSU, and those top level athletes to switch going to a Power 5/PWI institute. No one was even close to produce even half of what I just stated and we expect what, that someone with less clout, less charisma, and less celebrity to keep the train moving? Coach Prime said it himself multiple times, “There’s only one Prime now.”, if that is true what does someone with less plan to gain? Who can convince a top athlete to flip going to a Power 5/PWI school to come to an HBCU to get less exposure and be looked at as less then by the very league they’re trying to go to, cause the coach the can left to go to a Power 5/PWI himself. So if it’s good enough for him to go, why not me (obviously I’m speaking as the recruit). Not trying to be combative just asking some legit questions that have come up as a result of Coach Prime’s departure.

@@Overseabro we aren't tearing down what coach has done we are measly stating our opinions as to the reasoning he left. Most of us knew coach wasn't going to be at jsu for the long haul, personally I figured he would stay until his sons graduated. Many says that his son practices with Tom Brady and he has coach zimmer on staff. So if both of them cosign for his son don't you think he would have gms looking at him even if he were to stay at jsu. Hell if he was putting up Steve McNair type numbers he definitely would have gms looking at him. But thats not my point. You spoke of a blue print that coach laid down. Well to me the it entails to hire another larger than life proven winner celebrity style coach who's done it on both levels. I just don't see anyone else out there who would do that. Even after all of the accusations of stealing and terrible resources one would have to deal with. As coach left he made it seam as though jsu was a terrible villain. Now how would that attract and high profile coach or get the tip athletes to come. Both go hand in hand. I think the only one on the short list that could do something like that is the former coach of Stanford he is a proven winner given the fact that Stanford like northwestern has high academic standards that aren't relaxed for athletes. If you want to take from the pri level Leslie Frazier whom I don't know why they won't give him an offer. Hell I'd even role the dice and resurrect Mike Singletary, every linebacker in the nation can learn something from him. But as for now we have coach TC and I think he will do a fine job of keeping our miss boys home and give jsu first right of refusal when selecting a school.

Outside perspectives, actually match most of the inside perspectives. They are people who would be the target for HBCUs will not be talented enough to make it in pro sports. This isn’t because they are HBCUs. It’s because they don’t have a global mafia able to bring cash into their coffers enough to attract top level talent. They will never have enough money to buy the loyalty of anything. But a quick lesson in history: HBCUs, all of those names of these schools/institutions were named after white military colonels, were put into existence shortly after the United States ended private ownership/indentured servitude/slavery. Since their inception, their purpose was never to create students that had a dominant position in the society. They merely were to acclimate a particular population into what the elite society felt was proper and safe. In short, HBCUs, like many other things that evolved at the beginning of the 20th century was a socialization experiment. Every black leader who is entrusted to guiding those universities and understands the patronage that keeps them in existence, coming from the dominant elite society. Outside of several success stories of mainly football, where most of the league is undrafted, those programs in HBCUs will never attract those top-tier programs. The Deion Sanders case should’ve been seen for what it is: add someone who was using those institutions to make a larger point. Every black entrepreneur in the United States does this on the regular. Percy Miller/master P proved, just like today’s start up businesses, that he could create markets, which enabled him to get independent distribution deals for his music and media projects. Deion Sanders use a similar blueprint to build up credibility as someone who can put together a football program. Jackson State, or anyone who romanticize about HBCUs should’ve seen this coming a mile away. This is where hope becomes delusional and goes wrong. Even if one is 1,000,000% dedicated to building up HBCUs so that they one day become competitive in this billion dollar market place dominated by elite, NCAA, Division I institutions, it would take something beyond a lifetime of anyone currently living as well as it would take something a kin to a military offense to have happened. This is what happens when idealism meets reality. This is what happens when frustration meets someone who has far bigger pursestrings. This is the nature of anyone in the United States, who have skill and talent, and their ability to find better opportunities.
