@Mugwort Dont know who he is, I started following Arm wrestling a few months ago thanks to Devon and got at least 15 people from my circle interested after watching him, he is a great image for arm wrestling.
@Mugwort Todd gets a lot of flack in the "community" for his style. I'm not really a fan, either. He seems to be pushing the rules a bit, with a technique that puts his shoulders under the table a little too often. I dont want to be a hater. The first guy to do a Forsey-flop, in highjumping, for example, pretty much rewrote the whole game. But I don't think that'll be the case with Todd. I think It's more likely that rules will be introduced to limit the effectiveness of his style, as it irks many purists and is, imo, kinda' boring.
No matter where he is at as an actual competitor now, the best or worst, he is the absolute best thing in the sport. His character has grown outside of the small sport of arm wrestling. He is the face of the sport for lots of new faces, including me about a year ago! If you ask me, which i know that nobody has lol, i think his brain is as important a muscle as his arms. He's the man.
Every video with Devon on this channel has exponentially more views than the rest. For better for for worse I think he's the face of arm wrestling and part of why it's becoming more popular.
I loved your interview with Todd. He seems like a really awesome guy and a badass on the table. At the same time Devon is equally awesome. It will undoubtedly be a tremendous match!
Great rational analysis. It's just like powerlifting, strongman, etc. Training is training. No, Devon isnt #1 in the world anymore but he's definitely still elite and arguably top 10 in good shape. Plus he's at least 50% of the reason arm wrestling is growing so much in popularity.
Hi sir. Im Marc and im canadian and also a new armwrestling fan i am obviously very impressed by Devon im just mad at myself i havent paid attention to that sport 5 years ago so i could have seen my local talent raise and make his way to both arms champion of the world. He is very impressive but as you said with Cyplenkov around and bunch of other strong guys there is a lot to take on to come back on the champion of the world thrine and i believe he can achieve it and i hope he makes it back to the title. Still as you said and i agree to it Devon isnt over the top of the hill and on his way to end his career anytime soon. I think you have tons of class and knowledge about this sport as well. That i can benefit from it and just like Devon's channel i just subscribed to yours and hit the notification bell. Looking to hear more from you in a near future. What you said sounded very accurate to me. So props to you . Have a very good day. Stay safe, train hard and have fun. From Canada with respects. Marc
I think it comes down very simply to this, some people have never really played any sport at a high-level. For those people they do not understand the purpose of practice. And how all different athletes approach practice differently. They think if they see LeBron James let some high school player hit him with a crossover and a jump shot that it means LeBron James couldn’t stop him. These people simply lack this sporting experience to have a valid perspective. For those of us that have played sport a high-level, it is just an eye roll moment watching the nerds get all spun up on both sides. Just remember this nerds, the heavyweight champion of the world loses rounds to sparring partners you’ve never heard of when training to successfully defend his heavyweight belt. Count on it. This doesn’t mean I think Devon is the best, so don’t go jumping to conclusions nerds.
It's because the internet watches Devon's videos, and then spends hours or even days commenting that he's "skinny" or "struggling with lower weight guys." They assume he's taking every pull seriously, and that the only workouts he does are the ones we see on video.
Yes.., I am very very new to this sport. I have maybe 2 months of watching and learning and I have to admit.., Devon is already my favorite guy. I have others i really like and you are one of them but like you said., Devon is also an entertainer and he is pretty good at it. I am hoping to make Atlanta in September and see him live as well as Wildhorse, Haleraiser and I could go on and on. Super pumped to see live. Hopefully that is. You sir have been my “professor”!in learning it all and it’s much appreciated.
Devon has made this sport so relevant and that's what the greats do, i can see decline but maybe he pulls way to much but he is who he is and he has his belives..I want him to pull with denis again, but right arm this time.
Sounds about exactly right. On the sparring table it regularly appears that Devon allows his arm to become extended or angled into a losing position - then begins to fight.
Interesting Bowen.Keep up the good work!I said basicaly almost the same thing,I never took anything from danny, maybe I expected that Devon had more matches but whatever.
Good of you to clarify. First off, Danny Tesch is definitely a strong, skilled arm wrestler. Like you said though, when Devon pulls people out of competition he lets them get into their strongest position and lets himself out of position. Lot's of guys have given Devon good matches in practice and on side tables that he'd utterly smash in competition. I've seen it in person, I've experienced it. Don't ever think because you gave him a good match or pinned him in practice that it will go the same way in a tournament or especially a supermatch. And exhibition or charity matches don't really count because he usually let's guys have a win and pretends to struggle.
Devon is probably the best DEFENSIVE arm wrestler. So it comes down to dynamic versus static movements and taking position versus blocking positions. Armwrestlers are like entire teams of players. It isn't like comparing a quarterback to another quarterback.
The Australian Armwrestling Federation has the rights to the tournament and supermatch videos. I believe they have released the vid on their Facebook so far
Thanks for this video! I had to mute notifications cuz I was tired of people telling me that I'm fool and Devon was trolling. Devon is faar stronger! 💪 But Danny is a total beast too! Waiting for Devon Vs Todd.
He could never win again and I would root for him simply because he is fun to watch. Devon wants to spread the sport and that is why he pulls the whole expo.
Devon rules and Denis the Roids Cyplenkov, kidneys cant keep up as everyone can see. Great pull by Tesh, plain and simple and has a great future in the sport for being a small guy... See you guys in Kingston
In an old Livestream in the WAL Facebook page. It was 2017, the year WAL fell over with their finals. Danny outlasted him in a hook and finished with a press
who wouldnt support devon? hes very competitive and uses every tactic available. the only thing i might even consider gripe worthy is sometimes during the square up he has issues keeping his hand straight and shoulder away from center of the table. which of course leads to fouls and whatnot.
Very carefully and logically adressed, thanks Ryan for taking the time to do so for everyone. With that said, about Devon and Todd, I think it will probably be very similar to Devon vs Ron Bath. Todd is very good with his style but it's probably going to be hard to take the whole match off him, though I don't want to doubt that he can take maybe a round or two.
Larratt is a favorite of mine. Some of these fanboys have some serious dumb logic? Why would Devon allow just anyone to just pin him even if it's an afterpull? He destroys everyone he can out of respect: noobs, starters, mid to experienced arm wrestlers but all of a sudden allowed the favorite-to-win at 95 kilos to win? Devon would have preferred to give Danny the all advantages of positioning and then STILL beat him to prove to himself he was more beastly than anyone. But to lose just means Danny has his own level of beast. At 95 kilos to 115 kilos, no one on earth would ever think Danny could beat Devon on a championship match (not even Danny). But guess what... as expected the only guy to pin Devon also won his class.
That's true and all, but then i think about what Cyplenkov did to Devon in their 6th and 7th rounds, which was essentially the same, but Cyplenkov didn't move an inch. It's becoming harder to believe that anyone will be able to beat the top 8 guys.
Excellent explanation. I recently watched the Laratt-Cyplenkov match, and it was kind of embarrassing. What happened there? Denis can't be that much better can he?
It's a combination of several factors. 1. Left is Devon's weak hand and Denis's strong hand 2. Devon had 2 elbow surgery on his left quite recently 3. Denis was huge at the time of the 2018 match 4. Denis has enough explosiveness to plow through Devon without letting him drain his stamina.
I've never asked either directly. But my answer would be highly like yes to have these guys used some form of traditionally banned PEDs. I've taken over the counter pro hormones years ago when I owned a supplement store. I didn't feel value and thought they were overpriced and had too much risk of being bogus so I stopped after a couple of gos. But with Armwrestling having many leagues that don't care for WADA standardards yes the vast majority of elites have used something in the banned list at some stage. Also consider that every gym bro you see has done the same....the wired thing is....many if the things taken by athletes are not illegal in society, but are still banned by WADA. If we ever end up Olympic I am sure the vast majority of elites would get off anything they are on so they may have a go at that gold medal. But until that day, while professional leagues are paying, then 100% yes athletes will use what they can. As said, I've used stuff that can bought from GNC but it's banned at WADA....where does that leave me?
@@ryanbluebowen Thanks a mil for the honest in depth reply Ryan. Much appreciated. I was surprised to see Devon getting beat by Denis so comfortably and thought it could only be because Denis was on PED whilst Devon was not. For me it'd be great to see athletes claiming a win based on their natural strength / ability within a set of rules rather than how much PEDs they're prepared to take. Thanks again Ryan and all the best.
Ryan what do you think the issue would be asking Devon what he has taken? Do you think he would be offended somehow? It's an area shrouded in mystery, but I think it has a profound impact on the atheletes performance, Denis especially.
Also Ryan, do you think the fact the sport is so unregulated regardng ped's that it doesnt really create a level playing field, where some pullers may take high doses and end up in hospital and others are more moderate but that in turn gives them a slight disadvantage to the guys that push thenselves to the limit. How do you feel about all of that?
Devon always allows the other guy to hit first and get a good position, that's the way he trains for endurance. The problem in armwresting is it's getting more like heavyweight boxing, too many of the big guys calling themselves world champion but too scared to face each other and lose. Tim Bresnan at least having a go in the super 8 soon. Where's the other guys like Devon, Bagent, Told, Chaffee etc. I think Devon would be right back up there if they drug tested these guys.
So this is basically what we saw with Cyplenkov and Laletin practice. Denis letting Vitali get into position and him being far too strong when he does.
