Good on you. I quit cigs 20 years ago, and alcohol 8 or 9 ago. What "worked" for me was mindset. Essentially telling myself that the craving or desire will always be there. With cigs I will catch a whiff from someone else once in a while that smells good, most of the time smells terrible. With alcohol I can be around friends that drink, at times heavily. After a long enough time it just became my new normal as they say. I do not crave or desire either at this point. I had to accept that I would have a desire and be ok with that. I hope this makes sense. If you slip up don't beat yourself up, or worry about how far you had come, like you somehow lost all that work, you didn't, you learned what it takes, just start not doing it again. Just like riding a bike if you fall, get back on. The danger is in thinking it's ok to fall if you "want" to fall. You made it this far, so you likely know you have to want to not do it more than you want to do it. While also allowing the desire to exist. Happy trails!

I never cared for meth, but I understand why people can’t just stop smoking meth. It’s an addiction. Alcohol (along with pretty much every other addiction) gets you to a level of pleasure that life normally can’t get you to, and you keep chasing that pleasure. Before you know it, alcohol is the only thing that can get you back to baseline, and not drinking makes you feel horrible. That’s why people can’t stop drinking. Scientifically, alcohol numbs taste buds. There's zero evidence wine pairs with food. None. Wine pairs with food in the same way it pairs with sex. Beer goggles make you see and feel what isn't really there. Countless blind taste test studies have been done and even the most obnoxious bourgeois wine drinkers fail these tests time after time. Alcohol free drinks are at their most sophisticated manufacturing level, with alcohol free wines that match regular wine on the chemical level (minus ethanol). Yet people who pair wine with food couldn't care less. Because nobody genuinely drinks wine because it pairs well with food. They drink it because they have an alcohol addiction. Moderated or not. Imagine someone who moderates their smoking by only having cigarettes after a meal on weekends, telling you "I don't have a problem, I just smoke because it improves meals."

All this is extremely subjective especially the sleep part, as a former alcoholic (drank from 4pm - 2am almost every single day for 20 years) I can say that then I had the best nights sleep every single night with vivid dreams & also that was my favourite period of my life, sobriety to me personally is so boring 😂 going asleep sober is the worst, & this is my personal experience, also I’m not trying to promote alcoholism, again it was my personal experience

The thing is, here in Italy, as in any Mediterranean country, we mostly drink during meals, just a glass. In comparison, Anglo-Saxon countries either don't drink at all, or always need to full send an entire bottle. That's also probably why our average life expectancy is 80+

I usually have a few drinks a week like he was describing. Maybe sometimes a max of 7. I decided to stop entirely to see if my life would magically improve like so many videos suggest. Literally nothing changed. It seems that it’s for those who have an actual alcohol problem. Yet when I try to find videos about light or moderate drinking, all I get is “no amount of alcohol is safe” and paints it so one sided. I feel like there has to be an amount that only negatively affects your health that’s negligible in the long term.

Alcohol is not my thing either. I had it when I was a teenager and my eldest got married. I got drunk, puked my vanilla stomach out and decided from then onwards, never again and I have seen and continue to see the destruction it brings about. I wish I had more tools to help others because talking alone does not help.

Is it the primary factor? Some people wouldn't care, how long they live, but about their quality of life. Perhaps some people are happy to live 50-60 years, but not suffer from brain damage, addiction, higher cortisol levels, lower sleep quality.
@k8eekatt

@Mathias I was kind of making a tongue in cheek joke. 7th Day Adventists present a group of people with long standing sobriety as well as vegetarian eating habits. They are very social and as a whole, are excited about serving others. As you can see, when a group chooses certain behaviors, there are multiple variables. One consistent result of drinking alcohol is increased cancer, because it is directly carcinogenic. There are many more side effects. Sometimes people would rather drink than avoid the troubles, it's just how it is. My aunties on both sides of the family were tee totalers and lived into their mid nineties. Will that be common for people born into the atomic age? In 1945, cancer deaths were 1 out of 100 deaths. Now it's 1 in 2. As far as we know, 100% of people die eventually, and being healthy and able to care for ones self at great age is also very important.

I have this doubt regarding " alcohol consumption" ...it's my general observation , people who take alcohol upto one or two drinks , it's a very happy atmosphere , talking laughing , ( so does it not indicate that certain amount of alcohol in our blood is really good? ) ...but if the alcohol consumption exceeds after a certain amount then situation is really different where they loose their self - control.

And I've heard that the amount of quercetin and/or resveratol (the compounds in red wine that provide its health benefits) is fairly low so you'd need to drink A LOT of red wine to see the benefits. May as well just buy the resveratol tablets
@laurieellem186
@laurieellem186 5 месяцев назад
Yes though reversotol is just one component that happens to have been isolated and named "the" active ingredient that is responsible for the benefits. Same with curcumin and turmeric. But there are synergistic beneficial effects of the entire substance on the complexity of human biology, that can't be isolated to one component in a lab.

Think of the person you’d like to become; what you’d like to achieve, long term. Do you want to be a parent? Have a successful career? Be a healthy, physically strong person? Now realize that alcohol is actively preventing you from becoming that person. In fact, every time you drink, you are getting even further away from those goals. This might sound dark, but you will completely fuck up your life if you continue to drink. Things will not just magically get better; if you continue to drink, you will fuck up your physical and mental health, harm your relationships, ruin your career, and overall turn you into a shell of a human until you turn into an alcohol death statistic with nothing left behind on this world. You need to accept all of that and ingrain it in your mind, and recognize that it is completely on you to take the initiative and sort your life out. Nobody can fix your addiction but you, and it won’t just magically go away. That being said, don’t let this depress you or cause you to lose hope. In my experience, recovered addicts are some of the strongest-willed people on the planet; it takes far, far more discipline to overcome an addiction than it does to never engage in the activity in the first place. Right now, you have the opportunity to build discipline and turn into a person with enough mental strength to take on any challenge. I used to be highly addicted to weed, alcohol, and porn. If I could go back in time and never do any of those things… never have to deal with the extreme anxiety and depression that came with them, never sidetracked my career, never ruined my relationships with friends and family… I wouldn’t. I’m a better man because I conquered my addiction, and you can be, too.

I’d imagine it’s just like me drinking a can of Diet Pepsi during the week. I’ll usually have one during lunch on Wednesday because I need the sugar or what not. Or another one Friday after I get off work because I Feel tired and I still have to travel on the road for nearly 40 minutes. But I never drink more than two cans of Diet Pepsi at once.. too sweet. For these guys who can only drink beer once, twice, maybe three times and only in a week., it feels like we’re from two different worlds.

High fiber/protein diet, good sleep hygiene with a consistent sleep schedule, daily exercise… Problem is (speaking from experience), if you drink heavily, it’s very unlikely you can do all of that. Especially sleep, since alcohol reduces REM sleep pretty much by default.

The problem is the culture. Why do we even teach our children to start drinking? Be againts it from the beginning. It’s similar to how most people don’t smoke anymore. If the culture changes into being anti alcohol instead of pro, it would go down in sales. Make it more expensive. Limit the times you can buy it. Make it illegal to drink in most places, make it so that they can only drink in a box like when people smoke.
