Mine will not go in and open litter box he will go next to it but as soon as I got an enclosed one he went in it and I've never had a problem since

Actually not always the case. Stripey👖 here prefers a closed one. It's in a corner so it's "safe" on 2 sides.

Yeah this argument kind of debunks itself because if you have an enclosed litter box and it's done well The cat feels safe and knows that no predator can get to them. This is exactly the reason a cat runs to a closed secluded area if they get scared.

My youngest prefers covered, she will even keep her back to the cat door while doing her business. I think it's nice to experiment so you know what your kitty prefers, but don't force them to use something they don't like.

My cat doesn't like closed space. He's so particular and a clean freak that when he's doing his business, he hangs on to the side and do it there with only one leg down the litter to balance himself then jumps out and bury his treasure with only 2 paws inside the litter to cover them. He won't go inside even though the litter box is 3x his size and I keep it clean every single day.

@@serenitytrek Not sure but it had always been what he uses. And I almost always bathe the litter under the sun to eliminate odor. It's really clean plus it's spacious so this really puzzles me out. But I sort of like what he does though because in that way, he don't get himself dirty and don't get sand stuck in his fur.

@@yeruchii7817 I love how you said "bathe the litter under the sun" ! 🌞 What a great idea! 🤗 I've done this with pet & human pillows, towels, bedding, etc., - but never the actual litter!!! The sun is a free sterilization factory-😁-gotta find a sunny window for that box! 😻

I have 9 litter boxes, 2 are enclosed! Most of my cats usually use the open ones but my oldest female prefer to use the enclosed!

Nah my current cat and previous cat turn their back at me when they use the litter back. They do want privacy. My old cat wouldn’t pee if there was anyone in the room with him 😂

It depends on cats. Some like it enclosed because they feel more safe because of the cover, it s like their shield from intruders or strangers then they dont need to look around and be nervous about getting eaten while pooping. I have open litterbox though

Most cats perfer an open design. Most humans prefer a closed design. A cat that's used to a closed design may still prefer an open one. I did a deep dive on the topic.

I prefer enclosed. It limits the smell, and hides the kitty-roaka. I provide my kitty food, a home, love, play time, I'm her personal chew toy and snuggler at night. She can live with an enclosed litter box.

Very different contexts! When they're doing their business they want to be in a relaxed environment and be aware of their surroundings. If they're running under your bed then they must already be frightened and are seeking protection.

Mine seem to like the enclosed better than the traditional open and open, self cleaning. I got the enclosed due to having a dog that likes to eat cat poop and they use the enclosed or they just like pooping in the living room more than using the one in the bathroom

It's made from soybean byproduct, so the stuff that's left over after making common soy products like tofu, soy milk, etc. Soy is highly absorbent, and when paired with corn starch it clumps very well!

mine doesn't mind any , as long as it's clean and comfy i just bought it yesterday finally . it's my so first litter box , enclosed and was kinda expensive for me 😂 plz he likes to play a lot , so if it was open , the litter would be found and spread literally everywhere

Enclosed litter box for us. My cat likes to throw litter everywhere. It minimizes the litter being thrown around (litter still gets out no matter what) so enclosed for us.

You might want to consider looking for a low tracking cat litter. A general rule of thumb is that larger pellets (such as tofu or wood) are more difficult for cats to fling and kick around, and they also don't get stuck in their paws

For me, it isn't about not wanting to see the litter, it's about not wanting to smell the litter. My cat has digestive issues and the food she's on makes any droppings stink. Cleaned litter twice a day and still stunk. An enclosed litter box allows for less smell instead of full smell. I have one of those transforming litter boxes though, where the open litter box is a pull out tray and can push into the cover

I want them to be comfortable, but I ain’t paying 200 dollars for a litter box… I’m a 13 yr old who wants to buy an indoor cat but my parents are making me pay for it since I want it. SO I CANT BE DROPPING 200$ WHEN IM BROKE BUT WANT A CAT 😭

Never had any problem with my tree cats ( out of 4)closed or not but one is a ginger and he is sometimes lazy, specially when he became pancreatic. Last time I talked too him for now he listened. Ps I feel now guilty ‘gossiping’ about him😢

My cat just used his new litter box but I prefer to just lift up the door way open so my cat can see outside also because I don’t like the smell to be trapped in the covered litter box and my cat loves his new litter box

My cats have two litter boxes, one open and one closed. I figured they would split them but they both use the closed one most of the day and only use the open one when I am asleep. I empty them when I wake up every day. Cats are weird and do what they want.

I'm inclined to believe that the preference leans toward what was used for training. However...if a cat prefers enclosed places for sleeping, why would they want open places for pooping?

If no enclosed litter box, cat go bathroom in wrong places. Why? you'd have to ask her 🤷🏻‍♀️ I need the hood to act as a bumper to keep her hiney in the right spot lol she has also stood on the side of the litter box with her hiney on the wrong side so I can't use walls. It has to be a hood- she's been like this since she was a kitten and she doesn't mind the hood.

We have 3 litter boxes, 2 open and 1 enclosed. My 2 cats prefer to use the enclosed one. We rarely find anything in the other 2 open ones. I don’t think that what you are saying is true for all cats.

Poor cat. He sprays litter everywhere in his high side enclosure, specifically towards the entrance, then exits over the side in a spray of litter, then tracks it up the hall on the wood floors. Enclosed box for him.

@@tuftandpaw it’s definitely the litter but better options for litter boxes would be nice . Currently I have three separate types of litter out for 4 cats . One is a paper pellet that’s great but there are some trade offs when scooping pellets . The pine pellets are getting voted out and I’m hoping to eliminate the clay litter that claims 99% dust free but is mostly dust ! I watched your tofu litter video and already had some on my amazon list previously but was not loving the cost ,one of my fur burgers is a long 18 lbs and requires XXL litter boxes . I’ll give it a try next purchase. Thanks for your response and advice 🙏.

This makes no sense. Cat loves closed places. They feel most comfortable in a closed place cause they KNOW they don't need to look out for danger since there are walls.

'Really Great Cat Litter' by tuft + paw! (AKA, our litter 🙂) It's a natural clumping litter made from soybean byproduct. It's unscented, minimal dust, and ULTRA low tracking.
