As a black boy I started my hair journey 2017 . I’ve been doing everything the past 3 years but NOTHING has ever worked for my hair (4c) no matter how much product I applied scalp was always itchy always dry and flaky . My hairstyles could never last more than 2 weeks cause it’ll get just wayyy too itchy , I’d cave in and take my shower cap off and just let the water run in it . Nothing felt better . My stylist told me to try this thing called sulfur 8 and it worked great ! I just couldn’t take the smell . Fast forward my hair is for the first time and 3 years healthy because of my mixture of doo grow, sulfur 8 , jbco, and peppermint oil. Never will I ever go back to Shea moisture , Cantu or those other fake fancy hairproducts (besides their shampoos and conditioners they actually work)

I’ve been using the Sulphur 8 clean & fresh from a local beauty supply store since 2016 because I never liked the smell of the original in the yellow or blue containers. I love it when I have box braids, crotchet hairstyles or sew ins helps keep me from scratching my scalp raw

Yes; same here. I am learning that parrafin and petrolatum help SOOO much to protect my scalp skin. Further, pomades containing those and BEESWAX are helping with length retention... I can't wait to braid for the summer... And then press in October.. it'll be like 14 inches!!!!

Most of us grew up and grew our hair on grease. My mom used Dax on our hair and even the Dax pressing oil and curl wax. So crazy last week I went to the beauty supply to buy them all now a week later stumbling upon this video confirms what I was thinking that old school in many cases works the best especially in this regard as over the past few years of having new hair struggles I've never had before. Thanks a million for this video and sharing with us all.

Today/last night I essentially slathered myself in grease and Vaseline from head to toe. Best skin day all winter. And yes I thoroughly moisturized the night before after my shower with olive oil. My skin soaked it up. But guess what stayed moisturized? My knees, elbows, and feet which I used Vaseline to top off. Keeping that same energy all the rest of the year. ✌🏾👌🏾

I remember when the majority of little black girls had super thick long 4Z ponytails. I grew up with mom, grandma using stinky sulfur 8 and grease but my hair was healthy. Tragically, lye based adult and kiddie perms came along💀 black women/girls began to struggle more with damaged hair. I'm glad we are doing better and going back to natural, protective styles and old school products or techniques that work. While grocery shopping 2 mo ago, I stumbled upon the discount section and BINGO there were several dusty jars of $1.99 Blue Magic. I thought about the "olden" days then happily threw a few in my basket. I forgotten that I tucked them away - until now. Guess what I'm doing while watching👀 TY EfikZara💜

My sister told us to stop using it, her hair is more 4b, my other sister's hair is relaxed and mine is 4c. She used my sister with relaxed hair as an example, being as she does her hair, and now it's just past her shoulders. I wanted to get on board however I dont want to relax my hair and that's seems to be the only way the mini bottles and creams will get into hair, plus it's so bloody expensive, keeping in mind I started doing my own hair at 16, so where am I going to find the 30 plus pounds for hair products along side the £30 for braids? I stuck to hair grease (hey blue magic!) and I'm so glad to find a youtuber who still promotes it!

I did focus on applying certain stuff to certain parts of head like you did. One thing that grew my hair faster was having monthly steaming of hair with essential oils, and keeping hair twisted up as often as possible

My mom used to use blue magic in mine and my sisters hair when we were younger it’s been a fat min since I’ve used that!! I’ve used Indian hemp and Africa’s best/pride ( been off and on ...just started using it again yesterday) . I’m trying to keep my regimen simple and recall what was used in my hair when I was younger because my hair was thriving with the grease 😂tbh. I used some of the newer brands now it makes my hair feel soft but my scalp is crying of dryness after like 3 or so days 😭 so I’m just gonna start reimplementing grease on my head 😂

I never had a problem with a dry scalp/hair (even when I straightened my hair literally every day, surprisingly) until I started listening to a bunch of hair gurus saying grease wasn’t good for hair, so I stopped using it, even though grease was like my best friend. That was almost a year ago (also when I started transitioning, I thought transitioning to my natural hair texture was the cause for my dry hair/scalp, which it probably is part of it but whatever) and for an almost for an entire year, I’ve had such a dry, flakey scalp, and me currently transitioning back to my natural hair texture doesn’t help with that. My hair is super dry and thick, and I had no idea what to do to help with my dry hair until I came across this video. Luckily, I got sisters that use grease and they aren’t transitioning, so I’m probably gonna steal some of their grease and hope that it helps with my dry scalp. I was too busy investing into expensive hair products, that I completely forgot about the stuff that actually did good for my hair 😭🥲

I have low porosity hair and I keep my hair well moisture because the weather is cold.i I have to tell one or two African women in my college to keep their natural hair well moisture because it will brake off In the cold weather. I noticed how dry their natural hair is and I don't like telling people who and what to do with their hair. They just said thank me for tell them. I think that they are a little bit afraid what the white people will say about their hair looks to greasy. I feel that it non of the white people bisnes what people put in they hair, but they own bisnes. I go to college with my hair well grease to keep my hair in good condition. My hair is always in corn rows. I also tell them to look after the ends of their hair. If they don't look after their hair it will brake off. I been through it and it wasn't enough black hair care around.

@adayinthelifewithaltoriapope
Our parents used grease from the Royal Crown, Blue Magic to Sulfur 8 and water all of our young lives and we grew long, healthy hair. Who hasn't had an mayonnaise or egg mask? Or V05 Hot Oil treatment? These things worked as long as your hair was clean and your scalp was healthy. I never really thought about it when I had my sons. They always had hair that grew like a weed and I just kept it clean, twisted or braided and didn't really go product crazy. I admit I did stop taking care of my own hair. But in the last 3 years I've definitely been refocusing on my own hair journey. Sadly, they were grown before I started back focusing on myself. My hair would go in phases. It'll grow. Then fallout out or just seemed stunted. I'll cut it and rinse and repeat. I've been natural since college. But I never learned my hair or what works for my hair. It's been fun. Making my own oils, butters, waters etc. has been really informative teaching me what works for my hair. I just added Sulfur 8, MSM, Bentonite clay to my routine as I still haven't figured out why my hair knots at the ends and why my hair mats if I don't do it every couple of days (my hair doesn't do well in protective styles beyond 1 week). That's actually how I tend to lose length.

she is right though about the bad rep for grease ...back home we basically use grease and raw shea(orie?) to keep our thick hair moisturized/hydrated and healthy. Never had any issues and these were two or one basic thing and our hair stayed healthy. All these millions of new age products just lead to confusion and stress of trying to choose the 'one' or two or four that works. But if it works for you great, just know coconut or almond oil or whatever else is not for everyone. (P.S, our diet, from what I remember back then (not necessarily now since everyone wants to eat like the america and china) was healthy so that definitely also contribute to healthy hair/skin/etc........so

Same. I'm not gonna lie. I was one of those naturals that screamed to the top of my lungs that grease is bad because all of the natural I looked up to said the same. I looked down on people who used grease, but now I gotta swallow my words because it's not bad at all. Last month, I used grease for the first time in a decade. My itchy scalp went away IMMEDIATELY! My scalp was so bad I had to wash my hair once a week and no later or else the itching would be unbearable. I could not wear braids for more than two weeks. Now my hair feels amazing and soft and my scalp feels so relieved. For me, this is a perfect reminder that: 1) Don't follow the bandwagon blindly. 2) Let people do what THEY want with their bodies and stop judging them. Lesson learned.

We do not need a perm. Grease helps 4c hair grow long. I lost so much hair trying out this other stuff.
