Polaris dumped Victory because they brought a product to a brand fight. Doesn’t matter how good the product is when many bikers want to buy a lifestyle. HD offers that plug n play ideal. So they warmed over the Octane into a Scout and their cruiser into a Chieftain. They’ve been masterful with marketing. I want a Springfield badly. No point keeping Victory around when it’s taking money from the Indian line... and double the parts and development costs? This is exactly why Mopar won’t bring the Cuda back as a regular production car and GM won’t bring back the Trans Am. It’ll compete with their existing lineups.

Thank you for doing this video. The best part, to me, is when you say, "And the interesting thing is, as of right now, there really is no Harley-Davidson equivalent to this bike. Because this is the same everything as . . . the Chief Vintage and the big bikes, except, no . . . upper fairing and no saddlebags. If it had the saddlebags it'd be like the Road King. If it had the upper [fairing] and saddlebags it'd be like the Street Glide." Differently put, Indian has made a bagless bagger; a cruiser on a touring frame. I test rode the Chief Dark Horse earlier this week and found it to be the best bike I've ever ridden. (I have an '18 Softail Street Bob right now and was on an '18 Road King before that.) I wish the MoCo would do something to match up with the Chief Dark Horse in the marketplace. If not, my next bike is likely to be the Chief Dark Horse.

The Harley/Indian rivalry is a traditional thing and goes all the way back to 1907. What most people don't know is that it was a made-up show for the riders. Behind the scenes the Davidson's, Mr. Harley, and early Indian bosses Hendee & Hedstrom were good friends.........

@airtylerb
@airtylerb 4 года назад
Because reviving a brand that has as much history as the competition and making the same bikes, but better for less, is easier to make profits and steal a portion of the market than it would be to compete against Harley with a relatively new brand with slightly similar motorcycles.
@oneslave3318
@oneslave3318 4 года назад
tyler beyl Polaris only owned one production line. In 2014 they used that line to build bikes that had zero issues because the skill levels were all in place to build Indian. Only an idiot would have attempted to start with all new unskilled people. That group built the new Indian and flat killed it, those bikes were perfect from day one, I know because I own one. From day one, Indian has technology wise been 5 to 7 years ahead of Harley. I don't see that changing, without new ownership HD could be gone very soon, HD is a has been bike now with poor workmanship and little future.

It seems to me @Srkcycles, when you speak of the liking of bikes which we do sometimes, we are confused in our whishes. When we say, 'I love Harley Davidson bikes', it isn't about 'love' at all. It's just a matter of greediness towards the thing I want to be mine.. That might be called love by us, but isn't at all. Love does not separate, period. :-) That's why, 'loving' the HD makes automatically the hating of Indian, Yamaha or Kawasaki who looks like it. Cause the greed of thought, separates, as it always does. When we really Love.., it counts for all we see and experiance..the gras, the clouds, the sun, and also the 'me' riding the bike. As you've shown us many times by doeing it.:-) Cheers!

Love the sound of the thunderstroke motor, super, super deep rumble. What I don't like is their throttle, the 2019 Thunderstrokes have a bad delay on the throttle that gets worse as you turn down the riding modes, sport ends up so twitchy it is impossible to be smooth, and tour mode has like a 3 second delay on the throttle. I was able to test ride a Chieftan with the 116 and stage 2 kit, TONS of torque, and sounds incredible, but so twitchy it is downright dangerous to ride (the 111 was annoying, the 116 was so twitchy it is scary). To give you an idea of how crazy twitchy the 116 is, I was less worried about the back end breaking loose on a Super Duke, a vastly more powerful bike haha.

You said “metric” but I’m betting you aren’t buying the expensive BMWs or Ducatis.... hey man; the Chief Dark Horse is equivalent to a Soft Tail Slim in the harley lineup. aesthetics aside both are "big V-twin" w/ floorboards, 6-sp transmissions; no bags you go up _slightly_ in the lineup to the Springfield, and this is where a Road King or a Heritage Classic may lie. the nice thing about the Springfield is the suspension geometry is closer to the Cheiftan or Street Glide Special without all the heavy weight of the full front fairing. I'm convinced it does not matter how many american bike manufacturers there are, the Harley guys will continue to buy them, no matter what the cost is... Reason being, they would have to change their complete wardrobe if they changed manufactures. Think about it. XboobtubeX I have a Harley and have ridden both the Scout and the Bobber. I will be getting the Scout soon. I liked the Indian, it’s very different than the Harley...Does that make it better? No, just different. However, that being said: I think the Indian is all that. Bottom line: I love them both, equally.

Constructive criticism: If you're going to invite either an expert or owner of a bike, and you don't want to waste time introducing him/her. Use the same overlays that shows up the specs of the motorcycle to give us some info on the guy. It will make your video look more profesional

Great bikes but they are not retaining value. I got hosed on my 2016 Roadmaster. Sweet bike but I went back to a Goldwing. Not as attractive at the curb and gas pump. But on the road, the wing is superior
@johnayres2180
@johnayres2180 5 лет назад
I tried a Wing, but do not like not having floor boards. The Indian has huge floor boards, and mine also has the mustache bars, so I can always find a comfortable positions on long touring rides. The boxer style motor on the wing prevents forward controls and no place for "long" floor boards, or even decent road pegs. I'm used to forward controls and will stick with that. It's whatever you're used to.

I dislike the Indian branding for sales. If Polaris would have named it anything else it wouldn't be worthy of its hate. Victory vintage or anything but Indian. Kawasaki drifter could have been called an Indian would have deserved the same hate. Competition is good for any company, but all the suckers eating the word Indian like it means something is sad.

@skAhnaksA
@skAhnaksA 5 лет назад
@@bonnevillebagger9147 why would you say that? Indian died years ago. Let's say the Chevy makes a Camaro in 2029. If Mitsubishi buys Pontiac and produces a Trans am, would they be able to market it as a 50th anniversary? It was a good marketing trick, and now they're trying to resemble Harleys SMH. Talk about brand enthusiasts, most Indian motorcycle owners would probably be some of the worst.

Love the Indians but the owner is delusional. Factory these bikes make around 80hp and 100 to 106tq. With his mods he is probably at 85 to 90 hp and 110tq. If he is lucky. The flash that Indian puts on these bikes is garbage and is stupid rich. Hence why his fuel mileage is so crappy. My bike with the Lloyds 585 cams, full exhaust, and intake with a dyno tune only made 100hp and 120tq. Runs very well but not all the hp and two they are hyped up to be.

PatrolDog yeah I own a DH and he’s way off and doesn’t know what a stage 2 is vs stage 3 lol with Lloyd’s cams, intake, full exhaust you can get 100 to 105 HP but the freedom exhaust actually cost you HP which is why most go X-pipe

Old Harleys/Indians had a separate tank on the left for oil (the oil would leak out or burn up over time, by design, so it had to be filled up regularly... which is where the myth of the oil-leaking Harley comes from). These days the left hand cap is a decorative nod to the past.
