this plot twist added the depth and complexity to itachi's character. if he was just a bad guy, which is not necessiraly bad ofc then i don't think he would be this much popular. there's a reason why he had chosen the village over the clan but you'll see it in the next episode

I remember watching this as a tenn, I was mindblown. It was at the times where you watched Naturo once per week so this was multiple years into my Naruto journey, and to find out a character that was depicted as evil, was mostly just a tool of government and didnt really have a choice if he wanted to save at least his brother (coz if he wont carrry out the mission, sb else will)...that still lives in my mind10 yrs later.

One of the saddest backstories imo. There’s much debate as to weather itachi was right or not but there’s much more context you need to make your own mind up fully.

Worse thing about the whole Uchia backstory here is that it is a self fulfilling prophecy. Madara claims to want what's best for his people and fear that they will be oppressed so he warmongers and attacks the Leaf village twice. However, the only reason why the Uchia end up facing discrimination is because of his own attacks against the Leaf. Then to make matters worse, he deliberately stirs the pot in the Uchia clan after things get tense to urge them to rebel, causes them to be MORE distrusted and discriminated against.

Itachi sacrificed literally everything for the Leaf, and for his brother. He should be worshipped as a god in Konoha, if you ask me. Also (while trying not to spoil anything), we don't get a full flashback here. This person known thus far as "Tobi" is saying these things to Sasuke in order to make him act a certain way. He says here that he is Uchiha Madara, but even though we see Madara's face in these past scenes, this person is still wearing a mask, so we can't verify his identity. There's also the fact that the Kyuubi knows him personally. Meaning we can't trust that he had absolutely no involvement in the Kyuubi's last appearance/attack.
