I just got accepted the middle of June into RU-vids partner program and made 3 cents my first day 🎉😂❤ People need to remember that these great big channels that make tons of money, they run it as a full business with employees. It's rarely a one-man show.
Yes! This is so true! I just watched an interview with someone who has a 400-people team of script writers and editors and anything else that might be needed. It's their business.
Congratulations🎉 Realistic videos like this one help content creators put things into perspective so that we can come up with a way to do what we love for a living and find different means or streams for making money. On the channel I'm using right now, so far I've been posting SHORTS and I am pretty much random. However, it's doing better than my niche channels with getting views. But I am optimistic. My desire is to share what I find entertaining, insightful and empowering.
Yeah, but did you catch the part about... The payout for a million views in SHORTS is less than $400.00 right now. What she's saying is have another stream or other streams of making money if that is what you desire.
I just wanted to let you know I started watching your channel when I was almost ready to leave mine. But I decided to implement many of your tips and THEY WORKED! This sounds like an ad but it’s not! 😂 you really encouraged me to continue and also to understand where I was needing to improve. I didn’t go viral but I’ve seen GROWTH both in subs and views, in a channel that was 6+ years old and didn’t know how to revive. Thanks for your content Katie!
As a very new, very small channel, subscribers will matter a lot until I get to that magic number. After that, it’s all about views, watch-time hours, and engagement. You taught me all of that! Thank you once again for a video I’ll watch over and over as my creator situation evolves.
Thanks for sharing. RU-vid is definitely the new 9 to 5. Unfortunately for most,so much time will be invested with little reward before burnout and fatigue set in.
😂 facts. RU-vid is going to eventually make 9-5s look like a dream come true. The day when Gen z and Gen alpha discover and praise real jobs is going to be hilarious.
@@LifeOfViette"real jobs" are going the way of the dodo bird before much longer. Same with better wages and benefits as more and more people are competing for fewer and fewer jobs.
@@tracy419 what do you mean by dodo bird? Who would be considered a dodo bird? Yes things are changing for sure. With large companies making it harder for smaller companies to find talent, everyone becoming “entrepreneurs” and platforms like Y T become content sweatshops you are right things are changing. My worry for the everyday content creator is mainly regarding how they would make something of themselves when more and more companies start doing that of what they are doing, but on a smaller (but large) scale to make it seem more authentic? If micro influencers are getting more direct deals, ad revenue I’m sure will see a huge dip. You can thank people like gray vee for prematurely saturating the market before it was supposed to hit certain milestones, all for his greed. But it’s cool. That’s the way of the game and even his channel has taken a major hit. His views are waaaaay down from 2017-2020.
I love the Coffee Chats with Katie series :) There are so many RU-vid advice videos out there all saying the same thing in the same way. This series is so much more personal and feels more like creators having a conversation about what’s working and what isn’t together (and not a hard sell for a product either!). Love it, thank you :)
I’m loving creating a channel with no real major goal besides creating community for remote workers and improving video editing skills with each video I publish! It’s been such a fun hobby!
I wish more people edited their videos like you do. I will look at the scrub thumbnails before watching a video, and if I see the same image the whole way through, no time stamps, and no graphics (other images, numbers for countdown, etc.), I don't bother to watch. Love watching you :)
I've had to limit the amount of shorts I post now because I too got sucked down that path. A simple short that's literally just mixing paint can easily gain subscribers, but those people are not interested in the long form videos so it's not helping the growth of my channel in the long term. It's a tricky one though because shorts are so easy in comparison and the reward is pretty instantaneous 🥰
Thank you for this video. It's so refreshing to hear from someone with a different perspective I don't agree with everything you said, but everyone's perspective is different For my channel, ads and affiliate marketing are the main sources of income. I aim at digital products with commissions that range from 30-50% and are recurring (so a bit more than the 2% that you mentioned). I also can't work with brands as they are too corporate. Anyway, you just got another subscriber because the content was really good. Thank you once again 🙌
you are so right about that dopamine feel when I see my shorts are pumping up the overall view counts of my channel, but you are right, long form video will make serve me better financially, unless my target platform is no longer youtube, but ins/tiktok instead
Do you know why my revenue will go down as the days go by on RU-vid Studio? 2 weeks ago it said $240 and today it says $200. I have not gotten paid yet either as I was recently monetized.
Greetings from New Zealand, again excellent points raised here. Lie 5 is probably the one i can definitely relate to the most. I thought that having a ton of subs would translate into a ton of money cause you know they will ALL watch our videos right? Nope. Only a few do keep a tab on the channel while 90% is just passing by and moving on. I am in my first month monetised and got 60 dollars. Wont be quitting my 9-5 any time soon! 😂
Thanks for this very helpful tutorial! I’m just getting close to monetizing (2.8K watch hours!) so time to start thinking about all of these things seriously!!!
Great video as always! I always thought I'd make money on RU-vid if I just upped my subscriber count, but it's really my loyal Patreon folks and my courses that keep me being able to do a job I love! Thanks for your content!
For most people, it's not worth it. The time and effort is not worth the money in return. For most, it's a poor use of time. You can make more money with far less work with a traditional w2. For the 1% that make it fulltime on RU-vid, seems they all reach a point of burnout and quit. If you're not willing to sell yourself to your audience, its simplly not worth it.
You just struck a chord, I’ve been thinking about this recently. Would I actually do this again? Ehh probs not, maybe just do Uber or get another side job and enjoy life.
It's great for community don't get me wrong. Just not ideal to make sustainable income. You have to become a sell out and bow the knee to companies. Statistics are straight from youtube: 90% of people who start a channel will quit before reaching 1k subs 9% will reach 10k subs 1% will get a silver play button or be able to go fulltime amd quit a traditional w2. Most fulltime creators are extremely stressed and burnt out. Keep youtube a plan B. Maybe even a plan C. The juice ain't worth the squeeze, especially if you have a family.
@@KevinNordstrom I kind of doubt the 9% reaching 10k subs. If 90% are quitting before 1k subs that means that the remaining 90% of those people make it to 10k subs. Seems doubtful. The number I've seen for reaching 10k subs is more like 2%. Subs is a lousy metric anyhow because lots of subs does not guarantee lots of views. And as we know just because you get to the silver play button in no way means you're making FT income at that point. My guess is that the actual number of people making FT income is well below 1%. Wouldn't be surprised if it's more like 0.5%.
Buena enseñanza gracias 🎉 Yo soy creador de RU-vid. Y tengo mil suscriptores. Y ahora me falta la 4mil hora de reproducción de RU-vid. Para ganar dinero 💰 en RU-vid. Con Dios adelante. 😊
Amazing video! I'm soon monetized, but I never counted on that💵 I make money with manifestation and spiritual life coaching already, and I'm working on my first course that will be launched soon. And there is so much more planned😊 RU-vid is just a plus and I think it's only worth it if you love making videos, which I do❤
Wow, that’s amazing! 🌟 Your success with manifestation and coaching is truly inspiring. I’m so excited for your upcoming course-your passion for creating videos and all you’re planning is incredible. Keep shining! ✨🚀
Katie, i love you. Thanks for being transparent and honest with us. I appreciate that. Sometimes I get this huge high hopes for "viral" views on short form, but they never pay me the same ammount as the long form content. Please do talk more about ideas on what to include in those subscription only videos. For exampe, I am a video gamer who is sharing content about creating sims, building sims homes, challenges about sims or more specific nintendo switch games. I totally appreciate you. If you can include the answer in your podcast or email list I would totally love that. Sendings hugs from Puerto Rico, espero verte algun dia aqui jejeje :)
Thank you so much for the current and one you recommended! I have been watching your videos for some time now and almost every one of them has at the least 1 thing I can use in my own journey. Thank you for the work you put it
I think the reason people think they can make a full paycheck from RU-vid is because there ARE RU-vidrs that do! The main one I think of is The Tim Tracker. Their channel makes enough money that neither of them work and they have two kids. And they have said this before on their videos too. BUT they are an old channel that started a LONG time ago. So, did they get "grandfathered" in? Cause it seems that way.
We started our RU-vid channel but we definitely don’t want to wait to be monetized, so we created websites (one of which has Adsense), we have an ebook and we also use Amazon affiliate links to start generating income now!!
Really informative.. I've literally just started my RU-vid journey last week. I'm such a newbie 😂 I'm a mother of two babies so if I can get one video out a month that would be a success! Thank you for all your value Katie 🙏
Great video Katie! Loving your stuff. Could you dive in a bit more about what kind of exclusive content/products could be offered to members? Thanks! (And about shorts, I’ve had them kill one channel and damage another. I’m done with them.)
hey Beti! I can definitely add that to my list for future content :) generally though, I would say for educator-type creators, you can share the "why" on your youtube channel, but save the more in depth "how" for the membership. it's also a good place to share the kind of thing you know is valuable, but doesn't perform as well in the algorithm. and more personal behind the scenes content as well!
I just found your videos. I'm still watching them, but I'm curious, what about small business shops (like an Etsy shop) searching for people to test their things? I'm interested to find people to give me feedback on what I make. Ty for this content you make! RU-vid has filled the gap so much in things I wish to learn
Can you make a video elaborating on the point of making your content brand friendly? More specifically on how the brand can fit organically into your content. thank you in advance
Thank you for sharing this video has definitely given me some inspiration!! 🎉 As well as ideas on how to elevate myself to potentially make money while sharing what I love to do!!
Thank you for the great content - again! I started my channel a couple of weeks ago. I'm just focusing on enjoying creating content that I want to vlog about. I find your content to be very valuable and enjoyable to watch! I always learn something. So glad i found your channel!
BTW I did buy that gimbal that is in this video, so 2% from me! :) It's been great, but I need to use more of its abilities. Part of the learning process!
I was trying to be a content creator and an influencer at the same time and now I think I ‘just’ want to be an influencer for the time being… and was looking for a community to talk about being an influencer with ☺️ but I think that might not exist
the creator club is a great place to connect with others on the influencer path!! we've got a mix of biz owners, content creators, and influencers in there :)
I always keep up with your videos about RU-vid and they are always SOOOO helpful! You make truly great & engaging/valuable content. I post more vlogs/routines but am about to branch out into some more "valuable" concepts sitting down talking to the camera that are more searchable. Learned that from one of your videos! I finally made a posting schedule and I'm really trying my best to stick to it -- wish me luck!
This was very helpful as usual but as a creator that started on TT i still have a huge affinity to shorts lol. I prefer posting 3 times a day small amounts of content but I'm working on doing more long form!
Ugh, I really don’t like shorts. I have another channel that’s monetized and I make some shorts on that channel. My shorts revenue are like a couple dollars compared to just long form.
Katie, I've watched 2 of your videos. I plan to watch more. Your videos are highly informative and give me hope that someday my little woodworking channel will make it. Thanks for that!
Hey I have a very specific question I don't see anyone talk about... Do I start with my now existing RU-vid account that's connected to the email address that I've used for 15+ years privately, or should I create a brand new email address to start from? I'm mostly just worried that emails about my (future) channel get mixed up with all the random clutter in my mail box.
Followed the link and its landing me in a page to book a demo. How do I sign up (or view) the workshop? Is it the demo? Sorry not sure if im on the right page or if booking demo gets to the resources you mentioned 💕
Nice video Katie. A little audio overlap at 15:05, can’t recall if you use an editor so wanted to make sure you knew. Since both parts are speech it seemed to be competing.
that's issue i have idk how use my sponors if did i have 3-4 line up already and not like they send you stuff either to promote im been trying figured it over year now cause I don't talk in videos either
