I remember those apple pies in the 80s & 90s that seemed more crispy and flaky. Was it really just the deep frying part that made them taste better? COuldn't they revert to the old recipe and air fry? I wonder if air frying would produce a healthier option that brought back the original crust.

I grew up with McDonalds. Hamburgers we're 15¢. Cheeseburgers we're 20¢. They've changed many things. I haven't eaten there in the past 8 years.

When i worked at McDonald's at closing time you can take all the pies that were left over in the oven i ate those pies everyday for all summer also chicken nuggets after that summer i dont eat pies no more i over did it

we all have to wait for the arrival of jollybee here in the states. (new yorkers can visit toronto.) they've also got mango ones, fried just as mcd's USED to. i believe the reason they only use the baked, steamer tray, heat lamp version now isn't ONLY because of health consciousness. it has to do with fryer times, and expensive vegetable shortening oil changes. the armour lard bricks used back in the hayday of the blistered, crunchy delicious apple pie was more durable, and always had a kind of animal tallow flavor through countless batches of french fries. the shortening cake oil tastes just like fries now! ..perfectly suitable for potatoe hash browns at breakfast.

I'm in Toronto but throughout most of Ontario and the rest of Canada we have a burger chain called Harvey's. They've still got the deep fried apple pies that is 98% exact to what McDonald's used to have. They go by "turnovers" on the menu. And I think Burger King also carries them too. For me, they're one of the yummiest junk food ever. So any Canadians that crave a McDonald's original deep fried "apple pie" in those unique packaging, they got them at Harvey's. Maybe BK too. lol But Harvey's for sure. I just had 3 a couple days ago.

I remember working at McD’s in the ‘80s when it was fried apple and cherry pies with a seasonal pumpkin pie and those were good. What they have now is ghastly.

I’m 46 and I haven’t been to a McDonalds since I was in my early teens. A few months ago a friend and I happened to be at a McDonalds and I ordered a pie not knowing they had changed the recipe so drastically. It was awful.

As a McDonald's employee....let me tell you. These things are a pain to make. It takes 12 mins to make one which is a long time for fast food. They are frozen and annoying to refill. Ecspecially with the new 6 dollar meal deal. The oven we make them in is loud and annoying.

Rally's in our area sells the deep fried apple pies, though they coat them in a cinnamon and sugar dusting, you can ask for it without. While it's been a long time since I had a pie from McD's, they do seem to taste the same as the ones before the baked pies :D

I miss the original pies, for sure. SOOOO much better tasting than the baked version they offer now. I don't even bother. And because of my age, I remember they also used to sell different danish rolls that they would place on a steamer and offer you butter if you wanted it. My goodness, those were good as well, but they are long gone and only a memory in the mind of an older person. However, the original style pies are still being made and sold in other countries, but not the U.S., AND in some really amazing flavors. Why? I have no idea, but it sure is unfair. Taco Bell no longer sells their apple Empanada, at least not where I live. The closest to the original McD's apple pie is the one sold at Popeye's, and I have to say, they are quite delicious and will help to satisfy the desire for the one that is no more at McDonald's. I love the cinnamon sugar on the outside which was not on the McDonald's pies, so when I really want some apple pie, Popeye's is my go to place; plus, they are very affordable. In my area, it's just under $2 for 2 pies. Can't beat that price!

When I lived in Costa Rica in 1997 the McDonalds in San Jose still sold the fried apple pies.Not sure about now but it was a treat for us every time we went to the city.

I found the original Fried Apple Pie in Indonesia and eat them every day! They cost roughly 95 cents American money. The Big Mac combo in Indonesia costs about $4.50 in 2024.

I really liked the pineapple pie. So much so that I'd buy them uncooked so I could bake and eat them fresh at home.

McD's fries used to be fried in lard (the only good french fry is lard fried). People don't know what good tasting food is nowadays.

I remember biting into a Mikky Dee's apple pie when I was 10. It burned my mouth and tongue, but I was hooked. When they went to the baked product, I never ate them ever again. As to the cherry pie, it's called cherry pie not "cherries" pie for a reason.

I once bought a McDonald's meal (more then 20 years ago) that included an apple pie. When I was eating the pie at home I found a hair in the middle of it. When I pulled out the hair it was attached to a clump of hair. True story. Never ate a pie from there since.

Sweet corn is a big deal in Illinois where I'm from. I had the McDonald's corn pie and pineapple pie in Bangkok. The corn pie is so good! It's basically a cream corn filling. The savory\sweet combination with the crust really works, and they're fried like the original US McDonald's pies I had as a kid! I'm glad they mentioned the Thai corn pie here.
