Then one day I got called into the office because some pretentious @rse had made a complaint to HR that I had "stolen valour" in his words "parading in a paramilitary fashion" I vollied back that the particular complainant was wearing a prominent clothing brand that had an actual connection to a racist group, that the clothing I wore was purchased to do a job and that the money I paid went to a well known charity. I wasn't parading in any manner unlike my adversary complainant... Guess who got asked to politely remove and who got told to never wear that item again... Yup I still got the bums rush

You’re right that it doesn’t matter whether he’s sponsored or not but it would be important to make it clear if he was. In fact I think it’s a legal requirement as so many “influencers” have to include a paid partnership notification when promoting products on social media platforms.

This is what makes your channel so accessible to most people. You use and review items of equipment that's affordable to most people who go wild camping. Lots of other channels use really expensive brands like Hilleberg, Sea to summit etc that's not realistic for most people. Your channel is honest, down to earth, and that's why people like it. Dan, Best not to store your sleeping bags in compression sacs. Hang them up in a wardrobe. Keeping them packed ruins their ability to "Loft" and fill with air over time. Sandy

OEX is British. We are now a free country. If its good gear then use it. I also love OEX gear, especially pans. This channel is inspiring me to get out and camp again. Big up Go Outdoors all day long. iv'e used them far more for family camping stuff than hike/wildcamp/solo. When it comes to camping equipment its nice to still be able to go into a shop the old fashioned way and touch feel and see the stuff set up in most cases before you buy. Hands up anyone whos bought camping stuff online and been disappointed when they've opened the box? There was talk of G.O going bankrupt earlier this year. Thankfully that didn't happen.
Its entirely up to you what brands you use Dan. OEX make decent gear for not too much money, so are a good choice. I just got an OEX Leviathan sleeping bag and am amazed they can do it for half the price of the competition. You just carry on with what you do and don't worry about what some others say.
No need to defend yourself Dan, we all have our own favourite ‘go to’ brands that we use for no reason other than ‘i like it’ and ‘the last thing i bought from them was ok’. There are enough videos/channels out there that we can watch if we want to get a balanced opinion of gear before we buy anything, or we can just watch a few channels because we enjoy the content. I’ve never felt that you push any brands in your videos, you just use what you have. Some good, some bad, but you tell it like it is. Keep on doing what you enjoy, do it for yourself, those that like it will stay, those that don’t like it can find something else instead. Just keep doing what you enjoy as all of us both old and young have our favourite toys, its also good to see budget kit reviews as not everyone can afford a £500+ tent and set up from the off. Shame about your Rifle, had mine for almost 20 years now and would have liked to see you on the Range, there's a nice indoor one on the Doncaster Ring Road that is cheap if you still like to shoot paper they hire out rifles too. i just like the way you are totally down to earth, there are many youtubers that are sponsered and the dont even disclose it, they lie and say how good products are because they are simply just being paid.
I thought I had a big camping gear collection until I saw your's!! I've not tried any OEX equipment, started off with Vango and gradually upgraded my kit over the past few years. At the end of the day it's what works for you that matters. If you like OEX equipment and it's working well for you then who cares. I've had some more expensive gear fail on me from some well known brands such as Rab, Ticket to the moon, Berghaus, The North Face, Granite Gear to name but a few, but all of these companies and the stores where I've purchased them from have always dealt with the returns and exchanges without any problem at all. It doesn't matter what brand you buy whether it be cheap or expensive you will always get the odd problem here and there, you learn what works and what doesn't as you go. I don't have a Go Outdoors anywhere near me, but we do have a Blacks and Cotswold Outdoor, both of these stores have always been good to me, it seems most of their staff are all into hiking/camping etc and that helps a lot when you're looking for advice. Anyway, keep up with the vids, I enjoy watching your content. All the best for 2021!!

Hey Dan ... that stove you recommended ripped the first time I used it ... and the hammock you made me go out and buy warped after a couple of days out in the sun. Although I have to say, that kindling wood that you always use tastes really nice ;) On a serious note, it's great to see your channel doing so well ... you deserve it ... and it's great to hear that it can fund some of the gear that you try out. To be honest, I just imagined your kids sat at home on orange crates with bread and dripping whilst you were out in the woods cooking steaks and sleeping in a new tent every night ;)

Cracking vid as always, people who blame you for kit they buy that goes wrong need to understand that YOU have an example of one. And just because yours is good doesn't mean there's will be, but the person stood behind them in the queue with the same thing may never have a problem with theirs. ( Grown ups understand these things. ) People will always look to blame so done else. It's easier for them that way
The best way to judge a company and it's products, is how they respond when on occasion the product fails, because how many companies in the manufacturing business have a 100% reliability record....none.
I drive a toyota my mate a Peugeot and their mate a citroen.... All three are pretty much identical and come from the same factory which is in Eastern Europe... But they have different prices. OEX and MAPLE pretty much do the same and source from the same manufacturer.. It's good to hear you have a choice, and your reviews are based on your experiences as would I. And you are not dictating how others choose.. Far from it from what I've seen you have prevented others making costly mistakes. The fact others have experienced problems, well they should post that and direct that at their suppliers and purchase points not arbitrarily at you. So many people front other companies for far more expensive products and no one raises so much as an eyebrow. Stick with it. You are doing something worthwhile. It's amazing how others turn fact into so much fiction,,, that I feel too
Nice one mate, if you get a product and it does the job you want, you go back to that name. i also have a great big GO Outdoors store by me in Newcastle upon Tyne 3 minute drive, go in buy it go out sorted. Your a honest Man that talks from his heart, stuff the haters mate and crack on.
Mate, if you are happy using OEX keep using it! Simples, we do this to keep us happy! I have a few brands I’m confident buying without trying and that’s why they tend to be the ones I go for. I like your vids for the openness and genuine honesty! If you were sponsored maybe you would have to get your vids approved by a company in case they didn’t like your output and I feel that would be a loss!
I use Go Outdoors for the same reason - I've got a branch that is local & convenient and their kit suits my budget. Like most other brands, I've had good and bad kit from OEX.
English ( Unsponsored and totally honest) Woodsman ...It would be good if you had your own little range of products Go Outdoors worked on with you and sold in their store too though hey? The English Woodsman range....sounds like a good brand name too.
