Dat lambo I can see where you are coming from but first he really has nothing to sue them on because they are exercising their freedom of speech and freedom to the press (though it is in Canada and I don't know about the laws like that there but I assume it is similar to the US) but even if he decides to sue, the news company can argue that they were paraphrasing a part that he said which he admits that a part of the highway should be increased, even then if he could get past that the news company would have better lawyers and Damon would just be wasting money and time

Y3H801, News laws between Canada and US are vastly different, this is the exact reason there is NOT a Fox News Canada even though they tried to get our laws changed so they could open shop here which they failed to do. News networks are not suppose to mislead the public in Canada period. Chek News screwed the pooch with this one.

It's slander, defamation of character (to a certain extent) and it tarnished his brand and company a bit. Also, if people were directly threatening him and his family because of the article, that has to give him some sort of a legal edge. Canada and the USA have very different laws for media. If you want more information on it, search up the CRTC. They regulate media on a national scale.

Look at the Cassidy Airport as an example, barriers brought in and the dangerous lefts all eliminated around the bridge.... what did they do to the speed limit after that? Nothing and it was the same before Cedar Road - driveways and all, open left hand turns etc. It took over 4 years for them to have a "study" done where that was fixed (among other unnecessarily slow zones) to be put up to an acceptable 90km/h instead of the super low 80km/h that only served for cops to meet their quotas. The malahat on a good day you might be able to travel 90km/h the whole way. But the odds are that's not going to be the case overall. Anyone travelling to Victoria already knows that breaking the limit is futile and pointless as traffic is so bad that it wouldn't matter anyway. The major problem with the malahat is the lack of passing lanes. This makes people want to drive more aggressively, and once again the train tunnel speed trap won't be bumped up by 10km/h anytime soon. And the passing lane that serves virtually no (legal) purpose whatsoever will remain in existence as eliminating that lane would cut down on 99.99% of the number of impounded cars on the malahat which would result in a total donut for the cops to meet their ticket quotas. Quite frankly, if you're behind a slow truck, you won't get there much faster if you pass it. If you want to talk about safety, talk about editing their prime speed trap down to only one lane and see their ticket quotas drop into the shitter. But at the end of the day what would lower issued tickets mean? A safer road... that's what. And nobody talks about how pointless and dangerous that ~600m passing lane really is as that's where you appear to be towed. There is a theory that disparity of speeds is the number one killer on the road rather than speed alone. If the speed got raised by 10 km/h across the board it wouldn't be the end of the world. But before that happens, traffic must be routed in a better way than it currently is. One last comment.... if you're in any car and you're ahead of everyone else and you're doing... only 128 km/h you could do just about anything on a barriered highway and it still probably wouldn't put anyone else in danger. Cars have improved so much in the last few decades that stopping distances are lowered, traction control is offered on cars, better tires are available even for ordinary cars, airbags, etc.... and when you look at how long the speed limit in the malahat has been equal (or higher) in most cases where there previously were NO MIDDLE BARRIERS.... which to me was just baffling how people had to die before the local or provincial governments would dump any money into improving the road in that way. Well, that's just sad. As for your car getting impounded... *We understand that if you go through a school zone which is 30km/h and you're doing 70km/h that might begin to justify the whole impounding law. To make more of a rational connection to the highway speed of 80km/h on the malahat which really should be 90km//h we understand that the impound speed there relative to the school zone should be roughly around 210km/h.* But then again who is smart enough to think of that? Nobody on the Island... lol.
