"My industry doesn't teach me about it so it's automatically invalid" Reason why we try things for ourselves guys. A lot of people went to the dentist after oil pulling and the doctors say that they have really healthy teeth and gums

I've been doing it for many years now, twice a day with coconut oil, I reduced my hygienist appointments to once a year, and she always said there was very little she had to do on my teeth, my gums are perfect and my hygienist said she has never seen such well maintained teeth and gums, no pockets at the gums around the teeth at all...just pristine, in fact she was so impressed she took details of my oil pulling regime and said she was going to try it..she did and she still does.......it works for me....I would recommend it, you need to do it twice a day for 3 or 4 months to see and feel noticeable results, the coconut oil " pulls" bacteria from between the gums and teeth and helps prevent plaque forming, include it with your regular teeth brushing and flossing habits...it is not a replacement for those.

all this oil pulling nonsense might be due to dentists being too expensive for many people so they talk themselves into believing that oil will have the same benefits proper evidence-based procedures will.

Well said! I know at least in the US cost of dentistry is high. Currently working on a video on the topic and possible ways to get care at a lower cost :)

@@thetoothfiles its not just dentists being too expensive though, many ppl simply hate the pain you have to go through to get a cavity refilled/filled/removed/root canal etc and while thats a necessary evil, sometimes ppl have things that their dentists dont give enough solutions to either due to lack of communication and understanding between patients and doctors or depending on the places you are in its common to have been either treated incorrectly for an issue hence ppls lack of trust in doctors.. For eg. There was a case where a persons root canal wasnt done well by a dentist so it kept paining despite root canal having finished, and they had to go to another dentist and that dentist said that most dentist in that area arent taught to remove the pulp fully and correctly so they end up leaving it, and hence they had to reopen the root canal remove the pulp and then finish it up again (meaning you cant blindly believe a medical professional simply because of their degree and even experience without understanding and checking the logic behind it,sometimes you have to which is why medical profession is such a sensitive and important career and nor can you ignore what your body says,or not take multiple second/third opinions, trying to look at alternatives and so on) , then years later they had to do the re-root canal of that same tooth due to it getting infected and though the root canal is done the infection is still there and it may cause the teeth to have to be pulled out and whether that happens or not only depends on their immunity (is what their dentist says). And other case i have seen is that though dentists eyes are trained to discern small cavities etc, they still arent foolproof, since i have seen a case where person ask for oral check up and dentist missed the oral cavity in a form of small hole, that the person saw in the mirror for themselves and felt it with their tongue. Hence dentists working with patients will really be helpful. So most ppl can be desperate to improve their oral health.. Especially if they are having cavities for no reason. Point is there isnt enough communication between patients and doctors on indepth preventative care/nutritional/alternative care/fixing the root causes/analyzing a patients lifestyle without judgement to reduce the issues etc, we only see that online, which is why so many patients turn to self care and self study on these topics online and trust online doctors and sources more (of course even that has pros and cons since its easy to scam ppl online too, but still once you get used to discerning the facts vs fiction it gets a bit easier). .i understand that doctors dont always have the time to discuss all that but i feel like today's day and age if a patients want to improve their preventative care and want more information from doctors they shouldn't have to work so hard to get that information, i kinda wish that every doctor had a blog/fb pages/place where they share their suggestions for certain things online + offline pocket books at a small price so we knew what they suggested for certain issues and they won't have to repeat everything to the patients either. And may be depending on whether country/city is a developed one or not the doctors practices would change a lot.hence i understand that there can me places where things i mention already happen, but there are places where patients really cant trust their doctors depending on their behavior and personality (i.e if they dont openly communicate well especially despite having the time to do so and patients willing to communicate) especially when they have commonly gone through misdiagnosises, malpractices, ineffective treatments and so on. And while no one is willing to address it but they just ignore the patients words.again i am not blaming the doctors alone because i have seen both good and bad doctors/medical systems etc just like i c both good and bad patients/their relatives causing harm to medical professionals. Point is i have seen so many such cases of misdiagnosises, malpractices and so on go without being addressed by any one or doctors plus having no way to report them without having to sue but actually just so the doctor improves that patients dont even say anything to the doctors if they know that doctor wont listen because they have tried saying so before. So they just quietly change to another one, its not just a painful financial blow, but a blow to their trust because they feel scammed at such high/even low prices, harm to their health and so on. Other than that people these days know that mant doctors are sponsored by big companies depending on their department, in many countries despite the generic medicines working just as well doctors sometimes refuse to write a generic drug thats not the brand they are told to prescribe and the doctors that refuse to write them are sometimes tormented too may be theres an answer and exceptions to this as to why ppl write a branded drug but most ppl dont address this issue either. Which is why theres so much mistrust about the medical industry/doctors at times. And especially just saying that its not scientifically proven by a study isnt enough sometimes when theres enough anecdotal evidence, the study also has to explain why the people see the differences and improvements they saw in their oral health despite oil pulling supposedly not being effective as well. Other wise just like in the previous comment in main comment section people can presume its the big pharmaceutical companies that only push their products and their research without focusing on natural solutions and preventative care.and that their studies are biased due to pharmaceutical industries and doctors having financial incentive for it. Plus people presenting their anecdotal evidences can really be a hope, especially if it works for them. I agree that oil pulling shouldnt replace flossing/brushing, but most ppl incorporate it into their routines without replacing it with flossing/brushing, they may replace it with a mouthwash though/or not even that. I also wonder if coconut oil isnt effective then whether other studies were conducted on other types of oil pulling that are anti-bacterial/fungal like neem/tea-tree oils and so on. Again this isnt a personal attack on you as a doctor/dentist/professiona though, i m just stating the certain things many people ignore in our health care system from both the perspectives of doctors, nurses, patients, relatives etc and all sides have their own hardships and can face unfairness. I understand that as a doctor these issues can be hard to address.because since you are a doctor too and ppl i am talking about are doctors too, you feel personally invested, related as you are in that field and it feels like someone is questioning your personal integrity, especially when there are plenty of doctors working so hard. But its really a necessity for patients and doctors to have a trusting relationship.

You should not go to your dentist only if you have a cavity! My job is disease prevention - you should visit your dental hygienist at least every 6 months for cleaning and checkup - that’s going to prevent cavities and gum disease 😊 hope this helps
