There is so much misinformation about fertility. One common misconception is that passing 35 years old is walking off a fertility cliff and people often quote the statistic that 1 out of 3 women over the age of 35 will not be able to be pregnant within a year.
The statistics quoted:
(1) David B Dunson study:
- 82% of women 35-49 got pregnant within 1 year
- 86% of women 27-34 got pregnant within 1 year
(2) Boston University Study:
- 78% of women 35-40 got pregnant within 1 year
- 84% of women 20 to 34 got pregnant within 1 year
(3) North Carolina School of Medicine study:
80% of white women with 'normal weight' got pregnant within 6 months.
(4) Rates of genetic issues
1 in 100 for women 35 years old
2 in 100 for women 40 years old
13 in 100 for women 45 years old
(5) Down syndrome rates:
1 in 500 at 20 years old
1 in 400 at 30 years old
1 in 65 at 40 years old
(6) Blood pressure issues
2% rate at 30 years old
4% rate at 40 years old
Summary:
This data tells us 2 clear things:
1) Fertility decreases with age and complications increase
2) The VAST majority of women at any stage in their 30s will be able to get pregnant on their own
Simple guide, have your last child before you turn 40. After 40 you are rolling dice which may turn out okay or may have consequences.
And finally, as with all numbers, keep in mind that these stats only reflect the 100s or 1000s of women in the study. They may not represent all women trying to conceive. Each couple is unique.

I wasn’t ready in my 20s and not in my early 30s either. I got pregnant the first time trying and I’m currently 38 and 11 weeks pregnant. And everything is going well with the pregnancy. This is my first pregnancy.

@@rissa_mariposa thank you so much for the well wishes! He has been growing well and I’ve never received a bad report about him during any of my visits. I’ve been having regular pregnancy symptoms like nausea, extreme fatigue etc… but no bad news with baby. He can come any day now between 37-40 weeks. This Thursday I will be 37 weeks so he can come before the due date of April 13th, but at this point it would be okay because between 37-40 weeks is considered full term.

My wife and i married late and had children late - neither by choice. We have two sons. My wife bore our first at 39 by C-section, and the second at 41 by natural birth. Both are now grown, in perfect health, and quite successful in their chosen fields. It may be better to have them young, when you have the energy to chase them, but if that option is not available, don't be discouraged.

For three years, my mate and her hubby made several attempts to have a baby but all useless. Their counsellors informed them on most occasions where their problem was “unknown.” My pal made a decision to buy the t.co/Vps33f0mNJ and after months of sticking to the plan, her conception was a success. To find out further particulars regarding this excellent formula, please visit Google.?

Part of what makes me worried is not having as much years with them as I would if I have them young. But I have to remind myself of quality vs quantity. Do I want many years of scraping paycheck to paycheck while having no time for my babies, or do I want to be financially stable and give better wisdom and a better roof over their heads? I guess I’ll know when the time is right

@@erriiikk1 you're wrong. It should be discouraged. Your anecdotal story doesn't make the rule. Stats say the chances of of death during pregnancy is really hugh for you and the baby after 30. The people that didn't make it aren't here to tell the story but the few that did like you are trying to create this false image to women that its fine. I think the only upside of having children when you are young is your energy level. But the upside of having kids older is your maturity level. My mom had me at 16 she was a kid herself, we had a lot of fun growing up playing with her on the rain and eating chips and coke for lunch. But there was not serious guidance about anything! We all turned out ok but still.

I got pregnant at 36 with no effort. The biggest issue has been them treating me as high risk. When everything is fine with her. 2 NSTs a week and 1 OB appointment. It's ridiculous. We have'nt had one issue other than me getting stressed over excess appointments.

Everybody should watch this video. Very informative! I am 19 and I plan on earning my Master's Degree in Business Administration and then earn my law degree. I do not want children until I'm in my early to mid-30s; after I've been married a couple of years, done some traveling, and after I've been established in my career for a few years. But whenever I tell someone that I don't want children until I'm in my 30s, people will always tell me that that's too old. In my opinion, your 30s are the best years to have children. You should spend your 20s building your own life, earning your education, and gaining life experience. Then, when you finally do have children, you will be wiser, more experienced, more educated, and more financially stable. People who have children too early in life very rarely accomplish everything in life that they wanted to. There is so much in life those young parents will miss out on. There is nothing wrong with getting your life on track first. People need to stop making something ugly out of a woman who have children later in life. That's what people should be doing!

It's like this video was made by the Committee for Population Reduction. The fertility cliff is real. These pregnancy percentages for women over 35 are absurd and misleading. How many 38-39 year-old women do you see walking around with newborn babies? Practically none. That's because it's actually MUCH more difficult for them to conceive at that age. A recent study I just read said a 40-year-old woman had a 5% chance of getting pregnant. If that is indeed true, then a woman's fertility drops by 5% every year beginning at age 22. That means by 31, a woman's chances of getting pregnant are 50/50. By the age of 35, the classic "fertility cliff", she's at 30%. Keep in mind this isn't to say these women can't get pregnant but that out of every 100 attempts, only 30 have a legitimate chance of succeeding. You'll have to have a whole LOT of sex to hopefully get one baby. The fact is that women are born will all the eggs they will ever have, unlike men who produce new sperm daily. Upon first menstruation around age 13 or so, the egg count begins to decline. With eggs beginning to decline in the teens, and fertility dropping to 50% by age 31, it's VERY clear that nature designed women to have their babies in their 20's. Actually, peak fertility for women is between 17 and 21. That's why throughout all of history, women got married much younger, until the second half of the 20th century. The 35+ first-time mother is a very new phenomenon as far as the human species goes. The whole business of freezing your eggs to "extend" fertility is a lie. There is no such thing as extending your fertility. Even frozen eggs continue to age, albeit much slower, and most don't survive the thawing process. The failure rate for frozen eggs and the IVF to implant them is 79%. Whoever thought placing a "young" frozen egg into a 38-year-old woman's body that has continued to age at a normal pace could outsmart nature and beat the fertility clock? Egg freezing is just a scam to make tens of thousands of dollars off desperate women. Never do it. Time moves on. Nature wins. Every time. Have your babies as young as possible. Women who put it off for careers or any other reason are gambling with disappointment and regret later on.

Tell me about it. Coming from a rather chaotic family background, I have focused on getting financial security through my life (age 19-34) and I am now ready to focus on building my own family. I found out I would need to go under the knife (i.e open myomectomy) JUST to qualify for pregnancy when I was 26, but it is only now age 35 that I am fully able to commit to this journey. Am I "late" or "out of sync"? I don't know. I am just doing as best as I can for my progeny with the circumstances I have been given. All the best everyone!

But based on research, advance maternal age does increase many risk for the mother and the baby. New research now also shows advance male age also increase risk of baby anomalies. The increase risk is what they are, an increased changes. It doesn’t mean that every pregnancy will have this. So don’t bring your good example in bring down the research. If you can, have them early.

What about a man's sperm? And why are you looking at only women? It takes two to make a baby! I never got pregnant until the age of 39, even though I was married and not on an birth control. My ex-husband was 15 years older, a heavy drinker, and although we weren't actively trying, I'm surprised I never got pregnant in the years we were together in my 30s (and in retrospect I'm very happy). Fast forward a few years later, got into a relationship with a much healthier man who is 7 years younger and bamn! Unfortunately the first time we had a miscarriage, but I got pregnant again right after at age 40. Even though I'm older, fertility hasn't seemed to be an issue. In my experience, I think the big difference was my other half.
@lifelonglearners9784
@lifelonglearners9784 4 года назад
That's a fair point, it could absolutely be the man's issue (at least physically his issue). Research indicates that male fertility also decreases with age. I choose to not address this here however as I felt the most misconception is in regards to female fertility rather than male - congrats with the pregnancy.

You may get lucky on the first few tries, but that does NOT mean that your fertility hasn't dropped or that it's the same as it was at 25. It's not. Nature wins. Every time. Have your babies as young as possible. Women who put it off for careers or any other reason are gambling with disappointment and regret later on. It's almost like this video was made by the Global Committee for Population Reduction to convince women to wait far too long to have children and then end up having only one or most likely, none. Hmmmm.
@missxmarvel
@missxmarvel 5 лет назад
lcowles peak fertility is at 27. I’m sure you post this crap on every fertility video. Women should not have kids as young as possible because they will be a burden on the grandparents since it costs a lot of money to raise a child and egg freezing works not 100% but it’s not a scam.
@L1623VP
@L1623VP 5 лет назад
@@missxmarvel A woman's fertility at 27 is 70%. Nature doesn't care about "burdens" or "money" or "maturity" or anything else. Those are all subjective issues. Fertility is not political; it's biological, and most women who wait too long will be sorry. Nature wins. I just wrote an extensively researched article for a medical group's journal on egg freezing and the fallacy of extending fertility. There is no such thing. Corporations like Facebook and Apple will pay foolish young women $20,000 as part of their health benefits package to freeze their eggs. Why? So they can keep working and slaving away for the corporation, while valuable years of their fertility pass them by. The company won't care when they're 38 and realize their frozen eggs all failed because it was never about helping women. It was about getting more productivity out of them and avoiding having to deal with the accommodations that come with pregnant employees. If the companies really cared about women, they'd institute policies that allow women more flexibility in their schedules to deal with family issues like a newborn, additional leave time on top of FMLA, and other family-friendly accommodations. Butt that's not what corporations are about. They're about maximizing productivity and profit, and if they can get women to delay motherhood and work more years by giving them a bogus guarantee to "extend their fertility" by paying to freeze their eggs, so be it. It's the women that end up the losers. It was the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) that lifted the "experimental" label from egg freezing several years ago. Egg freezing was ONLY approved for women with cancer and other serious illnesses as a way to protect their eggs from chemotherapy and other damaging treatments. It was only offered as a slim (very slim) chance for them to possibly have a baby after their health crisis. It was NEVER intended for healthy women as a way to extend fertility because it's impossible to extend fertility. Because the procedure could no longer be considered "experimental" after the ASRM declaration, profiteers began targeting healthy women with the costly and near-worthless procedure that has never been studied for efficacy or risk. In fact, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) along with the ASRM do NOT recommend egg freezing for healthy women as a way to delay conception or "extend fertility" for all the obvious reasons. Women were meant to have their babies young as nature still intends.

lcowles Yeah and Technology doesn’t care about your bullshit facts. Times have changed, it’s like saying you can’t live longer than 30 because back in the day ppl only lived that long. Things have changed we live longer and have a better healthcare system. This is a video for women who might want to get pregnant and all you do is make women feel uncomfortable with nonsense because I have met women who got pregnant in their 30s naturally. Seriously if you got nothing nice to say then don’t say anything at all. Unless you are a doctor you have no business telling women with a dream to have children that egg freezing is a lie because it’s not. You don’t even realize how heartless you are.
