What a beautiful house/ home. I love older homes.

Last year the critters (rabbits, deer, etc.) ate just about my whole garden. Then I bought the Premier1 poultry fence to put up around it. It worked to save the plants that were left, that tried to make a valent come back. Being half way through the season, it wasn't much; and we ended up buying produce to can salsa, etc. This year, the fence is up and ready to protect my garden from the start. Long live Premier1.

I think it probably would work very well as a garden fence!

This is excellent information. I've been scared of using this for years.

I think most farms/homesteads would benefit from it in some way...but it's a big chunk of money if it's only going to be used in certain situations. Thanks for checking in!!

Happy with my Premiere1 Poultry fencing. Using a energizer that doesn’t push well through even a little weediness/piled up mulch but cannot fault the fencing for that. Cons: Wanted the permanent net fencing cause i use it in my back yard and don’t move it much at all. Cannot get this type in Canada unless willing to pay through the nose on S/H and customs. Only has 2 Canada distributors and they only have one type of Premier poultry fencing type, which is NOT the type used for ‘permanent’/long term instillation. -Expensive -fencing netting with long sections Tends to stretch out /droop/sag overtime. Pros: -Very nice quality. -Comes with a nice repair kit. Lots of replacement fencing rope and clips. -Does NOT tangle up on itself nearly as much as another electric net fencing I bought the Premier fencing to replace. This seems to have something to do with the texture of the materials. This made for a MUCH easier installation and moving. -Comes with nice long ties useful for securing the fencing to another section of fencing or other object as well as great for parceling it up nice and neat for storage.

Thanks for sharing this honest video! When I went to the HOA conference this year the Premier One guys had a booth and I got their catalogues to look through for the future. I’ll keep this in mind. Also, I know you guys are busy but would you be willing to do a video taking stock of the animals that y’all have on the farm? Visiting the goats, head count and future plans with the chickens, checking in on the dogs, etc. I’d love to see it!

Thank you. I thought I was the only one who had issues. For me, goats are a no go unless I want to put young ones on area for a day. I can use for poultry on flat areas and for sheep. I will continue to use for flat and temporary areas but will keep working on permanent fencing.

Can you use green hedge like hedge lucerne for fencing?
@tsttrewes

Used all sorts of fence for goats - the Premier 1 is the best for all seasons on rough terrain (Maine) bar none. If you want electro netting, it's worth the extra money and their customer service is positively amazing

It has worked well for my buck goats. But I just can't keep my does inside the fence. They jump right over it now. I even tried to add an additional wire on top to make it taller...they jump clean over. Do you have any experience with goats that jump the premier 1 fence? I use the 48" tall fence with the extra posts in between.

Dang! We also have 48" and have Lamancha and Nigerian Dwarf, but have had no issues with them getting out orders even attempting to jump the fence.

I've used Premier 1 48" electric semi-permanent with the double spike for 5 years. It is extremely durable and we moved it several times per year. I initially had 7, 100' sections of this fence. I live in a hilly area and by utilizing the correct fence for the application, it worked famously. I had 7 goats and now have 12 sheep and NEVER had an escape. Please, buy the fence designed for the terrain and the specific animals. This is my personal experience with this fence for 5 years at Ponker Farm.

Thanks for the tip! This video is a few years old and we have since traded in the Premier 1 for turbo wire 5 strand. We still use the P1 for our chickens and ducks, but the turbo wire is a much better fit (and much less expensive!) for our goats and landscape.

Most people I saw use them in the woods or anywhere, they weed whack/string trim a path, you want to keep it clear.

have any info on double or single spike? can you use another charger unit with the Premier 1 fencing?
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 5 лет назад
Sorry for the delayed response. The double spike is more stable, but the single spike is easier to move (one hand holding gathered fence, other hand pulling fence out of ground). You can use other chargers, just make sure they are low impedance and use a pulse shock, not continuous current. I bought a stronger charger for the goats and use the Premier One charger for the chickens.

HA! Great question...I'm STILL trying to use this...and it still doesn't really work for me. It truly shines as a temporary solution...but make sure and put in permanent field fence (woven wire) before you get your animals. We've been saving up and will be installing field fence soon (HOPEFULLY!). Thanks for the question!!

Would you say that you could use this to set up a dog kennel area?
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 4 года назад
I've used the netting for my dogs a time or two, but only as a temporary run. They definitely respected it. But I'm not sure that I would use it as a permanent kennel area. Little dogs might be able to squirt through the holes near the bottom and athletic dogs would almost certainly be able to jump it. But it would work in a pinch if you need to keep them out of the way for a few hours. Thanks for commenting!!

How would this work for protect my gardens from rabbits and groundhogs?
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 4 года назад
If you make sure to keep weeds/grass off the fence so it stays really "hot", I think it would work. Groundhogs might dig under it. BUT it would probably be cheaper to buy some chicken wire and t-posts/wooden posts AND you don't have to worry about a charger. Thanks for commenting!!

Thank you for making this video. I see the Premier 1 fencing in virtually everyone's videos and wondered about it. It seems awfully expensive to me. And I live on hilly, wooded property, too! Thanks for the heads-up!
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 5 лет назад
You might be able to use it in the woods if it was semi-permanent...only moved it once every month or every few months. But moving it a few times a week in the wood would be a pain! Thanks for stopping by!!

I raise a small breed of pigs...and properly trained them to Premier 1 Pig netting for pastured pigs (the kit, with energizer). The net doesn't reach the ground (6" gap) and within a couple months, they figured out that they could quickly push the net up and run under it. Then, BOOM...just like - hundreds of dollars totally wasted! The clips and caps just slide onto the fiber rods...they aren't threaded, so when the clips slide up it leaves an opening the height of the rod for all the other pigs to follow through. When the caps are pushed off, the net falls to the ground and the pigs just walk over it.
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 2 года назад
We found the same issue with our goats…so we only use the Premier 1 with the chickens. It was frustrating because the fencing is so expensive!

I have three big neighbor dogs that already killed one of my rabbits. We will have ove 50 chickens here soon.. Do you think this will keep those dogs out?
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 3 года назад
If you're careful to keep the grass around it trimmed and make sure you ground it well, it should be a great deterrent for even a really motivated dog. Unless the dogs are really big and athletic and can jump over it!

Sounds like you need a pos/neg fencing. My ground a very dry but it would keep your sheep/goats from going underneath. my dog have tried😬
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 2 года назад
We still use the P1 for our chickens and ducks, but moved on to Turbo wire for the goats. They can't get under OR over it and it gives them a good zing if they try. It's worked out much better for the goats!

Would the fencing keep groundhogs and rabbits out of a garden?
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 2 года назад
Probably not, it can be dug under if they are determined (which ground hogs usually are!)
@Silvermoonhomestead

I have had a problem with the netting getting caught stuff as well. We've kept sheep and chickens in it temporarily. But our property got pretty grown up before we got our riding mower and there were lots of saplings coming up. Now that it's all mowed down, the netting gets caught on all those little sapling stumps. My netting also only has the one spike at the bottom instead of the double that you can step on. It can be really hard to push into our clay ground when it's dry or frozen. I also have trouble keeping the netting taut. But I'm pretty sure that last part is user error on my part.
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 5 лет назад
We've got the double spiked posts and that seems to work pretty well. I don't have too much of an issue getting the fence tight, except on some of the hills. I think it just depends how you want to use it and what type of farm you have...it'll work great for some and struggle for others. Thanks for dropping in!!
@Screamingpinesfarm

With all the people that use premier 1 no comments (ok only 17 people looked) so far however I do rotated fencing with perment fence and move animals not the fence It works better for me. Animals dont exscape, do to fence charger not working.Premier 1 starter fence cost close to 500.00 dollars with the same money can get 2 rolls of 330ft of fence plus t post. Of course when premeir gives youtubers the fence to push, for us to buy then it is cheaper. Thanks for the pros and cons of premier 1
@TealHouseFarm
@TealHouseFarm 5 лет назад
For people like Joel Salatin moving it behind cows, I see it being the perfect solution. But it's definitely not for everyone. I'd like to get our entire property fenced permanently and then use the Premier 1 fence on an "as needed" basis. Thanks for commenting Wes!
