When I was growing up, kindergarten was more like preschool. Three hours only and a nap time. We colored, played with blocks, sang, etc. Our moms who had to work part-time or full time usually had several moms on the street who were always there for us. I could never have left my son at 6 weeks. I breast fed him until he was almost two, and I would never get that back and the fun we had if I had sent him off to so-called preschool.

My toddlers are going to a montesori center and while I love it, maybe next year we will skip for a few reasons. One is that they are very attached to me and it is still hard for them on many days to see me go. And the plan was for me to work but no one hires a mother who is on a tight schedule and may take many days off if the kids get sick.

I’m a SAHM so we simply couldn’t afford preschool and I was happy to be home with them. But our Kindergarten is a 7hour day, so the year before we are sending our oldest to a two day a week pre-k program so Kindergarten wont be such a shock to her system. And at this age she seems to crave lots of interaction with kids her age…. And I could use a little break. 🤞it all works well for us.

As a former preschool teacher with my degree in child and family studies I fully agree. If you don’t have to. Don’t. I was happy to be there for the families that needed me to be there for their child. However these little ones are not all doing well. Some thrived. But most were just waiting for their parents to come back for them. I will also add I taught at a full day preschool. So these little ones were with me for 8-9 hours. It’s just too much for most kids.

8 to 9 hours. Holy moly. Both my kids went to preschool at age 4 and they both loved it. However it was 4 hours a day twice a week program.

If a child doesn't have an enriching home life or the parents need additional support, then it could be good for the child.

Absolutely. This is why I say you need to do what works for you. Some children need to go because of work schedules or they really are better served outside of the house. But as for the academic push of it? I'm my mind, not necessary.

A lot of places here in USA have it income based on to if your kid can even get into prek or not. My 4 year old didnt get in last yr or this year. We were told we make too much money both times. It made a relative of mine mad saying my son wont speak well or have friends til age 12 if he doesnt go! Wow! Some people don't think kids will survive the world if they don't go. It's not up to us parents sometimes even if they can go. Its up to the state.

This morning in my home based "preschool,"which is three hours of early handson learning , we read two great books, learned a letter sound and 3 sight words,were introduced to a poem and Bible verse,played in learning centers,made a veggie pizza .. can preschool NOT daycare but preschool be very important in your childs life?

@@user-dm3eo5yh8h the idea of preschool, like you are doing with hands-on activities and introducing concepts is great. This is a great foundation and is important. But it doesn't need to be full-time and doesn't need to be in a program. You are doing the right things!

@@LearningLifeMB These things could of course ALL be done at home or church or grandpa's house. I'm blessed to be paid to do it.

My daughter is in Tk and we are not happy with her class placement. She is high functioning and has mild cerebral palsy. They couldn’t find an inclusive classroom she’s segregated from the mainstream kids. I feel her day is too long 8:15-1:30 and it’s M-F. Drop off have been so hard. She clings to my leg 😢 and cries.

@@Moss_Pillows I'm so sorry you're experiencing that. It's a long day for sure, esp when she's not in the right placement for her. I hope you can get it changed and that it will bring you peace.

Thanks for this important video. I was thinking of sending my 4 years old to preschool who has delayed speech. He can read many books and knows his numbers and shape well never went to daycare. Do you have any suggestions regarding his speech ? Thank you so much
@LearningLifeMB
@LearningLifeMB 3 месяца назад
Sorry for the delay. You had a question about speech? Are you concerned there is a delay at the moment? Or are you concerned that his speech might not progress if he is not in a preschool? If you are concerned about any delays right now, it can be good to get an assessment. If you are concerned about him not progressing - as long as you talk to him during the day and he has plenty of opportunities to talk to others, it will never be a concern. Even allowing unrestricted free and imaginative play will boost it - just listen and you will hear how his language develops.

Hi, I don't want to send my 3y to peek but sometimes I feel guilty because we live in Canada and I don't speak fluent English yet, My husband is afraid of him being behind the others at Kindergarten

If you don't feel comfortable in sending your child to prek you don't have to. 3 is still very young. And, as long as he is playing, being read to (in any language), has opportunities to explore books and even his surrounding area, and playing some more, he will not be behind others in kindergarten. There are children who come to kindergarten with some skills and there are children who come with none... And guess what? By the end of the year you can't tell those children apart. Follow your gut on preschool. My girls never went and I don't think they missed out on anything.

Also, you may be able to opt for a part time school schedule when you are ready.

Is there a difference between preschool and pre-k? Do you think it's necessary to send children to pre-k?
@LearningLifeMB
@LearningLifeMB 3 месяца назад
Preschool and Pre-K are the same thing. I don't feel a need to have your child do a Pre-K (preschool) program, even at home.

@LearningLifeMB thank you so much for your response 🩷 and also for taking the time to make this video. It has truly helped me in navigating this new step and it's been a blessing to me. As a child, I never went to preschool or pre-k, and in Kindergarten I was one of the advanced learners and was part of a reading program because I was advanced in reading. I only say this because I think that shows that preschool/pre-k really isn't necessary for everyone. And I have strong convictions for my babies as well. I just want to keep them closer to home and mold their character within the home as long as I can 💗 until Kindergarten. Thank you again 🩷🙏
