You could preach a tape sermon on this point. I think we as black women have struggled with hair growth because many of us have the goal of doing no work on our hair. You have to do something no matter how you style your hair.

@@RochelletheRealtor true, but people will spend 5 hours, slaying, laying, melting, bleaching, bald capping a wig but not their hair, it's ironic that I wanted to get a wig and gave up because I got so tired watching wig videos, I was like natural hair is less bother than this and after all that work I'll actually have my own "inches" and more money in the bank, the wig's reward for all that hard work is too short-lived.

I lightly moisturize EVERY night and put into about 13 twists, stretch with scrunchies and a scarf. Wearing a moisturized protective style each night allows me to wear it out without fear each day. It takes diligence but I’ve finally reached below boob lol.

I use aloe vera juice that has a fenugreek tea bag in it-in a spray bottle used lightly. I seal with a little bit of jojoba oil. I use a scrunchie to put my twists in a ponytail then I basically use the scrunchies like a threading technique all the way down my ponytail, wrap my head in a scarf and thats it! The next day I have an elongated twist out.

I do "low manipulation protective styles" where I loosely twist and tuck my ends under in a low, tension-free bun at the base of my neck. I still have to tidy it up every day, but it is a serious time saver! I spritz and re-moisturize every 2 days. I wash and deep-condition weekly. Since doing this (after watching your other video on protective styling), I've noticed significantly less breakage! Also, it gives me an opportunity to "baby" my crown area which tends to get drier and is more brittle (I think menopause has affected this). I still rock a wash 'n go occasionally. I share your videos with all my natural family & friends! They are so informative!

My hair is 95% of the time in a 2strand twist and put away until it's time for a big event. I experience an average 3/4" of growth a month and oil/massage every single day. I started my natural hair journey after my friends and my hair is now longer than theirs. Keep your hands out of your hair, wash on the same day of every week, massage/oil daily and celebrate wearing beanies and headwraps. From rocking a fade for 20 years, to now having hair just above my bra strap in 16 months.

Long term protective styles ruin my hair especially if they involve added hair. I have found that low maintenance, short term, 3-5 days max works best for me. I put my hair in 7-15 sections depending on the type of braid or twist (15 sm/med French braids 13 individual braids, 9 chunky twists, When I do more flat braids I can moisturize my scalp and use light cream or oil to seep through the braids. If I do fewer chunky twist I can gently take them down every other day, massage my scalp with oil, and moisturize my hair. No matter what I always bunch the ends together and wrap them in a silk band then pin them up. These are all techniques I mixed and matched from Green Beauty advice.

Currently I had gotten so burned out with doing my 2 sisters, 2 daughters & my own hair as well that I had paid someone to do my hair & they had braided my hair so tight that my edges straight feel out smh. I'm so sad n/c my braiding rule is NEVER put more extension hair in the braid than the clients actual hair in their head. . The braids were beautiful and uniform don't get me wrong but when you are a hairstylist or having paying customers come to you you need to know HAIR e to no hair, not just money but hair. You have to know how yo keep the hair healthy while braided & do your part in that as at braider. Anyway that's my shpill for today!!!!!

I hate protective styling without added hair. My hair shrinks up when properly moisturized and any drop of moisture makes it shrivel up. Mini twists and braids shrivel up and look like worms on my head. Two cornrows make me look baldhead and tuck in hairstyles are not my friend cuz of shrinkage. Wash and go’s doesn’t go hand in hand with my current job. My armpit length hair shrinks up above my ears and I hate it so much. A blown out style will end up looking like a smushed ball after 2 days. I keep my hair in knotless braids, moisturize prior, during, and I make sure I’m not yanking the hell out of edges. I spray with aloe Vera juice or a leave in mix, then I seal with oil or grease. Cleanse with ACV. My go to hair style that are not knotless braids is two pigtails with 1-2 strands of Marley hair.

@aramideodunlade1209 2 года назад
@@cspann33 one reason your hair might be locing is if they aren't tight and firm enough. It shouldn't be too tight but it should still be firm. Another reason might be pouring water on it everyday.
@aramideodunlade1209
@aramideodunlade1209 2 года назад
If that's the case, you need to create a moisturizing routine that wouldn't require you to moisturize for at least a week. Don't take the relaxer just yet, research has it that it might be carcinogenic. Remember Jesus loves you and your hair's beautiful

Short marley twists have been the best for my hair! Easy to keep hydrated and doesn't pull on my strands. It also easy to wash and keep my hair out the way since I do a lot of high intensity work outs.

I wear my hair in a protective style but after a week the end of the braid always tangles & knots 🪢 ending up cutting it and/or pulling long strands of hair out to remove the knots. Now I know why and will begin moisturizing the braid taking especially good care of the end. Thank you 💕

This is bullying. I feel bullied and shamed. 😂😂😂 I do some cornrows and rock a wig without touching, moisturizing or doing anything to my hair during weeks. Yes, it breaks, yes, it becomes dry and stiff. And then, I dare to complain that my hair don't grow.

I love protective styling. Me leaving my hair alone has always helped me. I keep my hair moisturized more when in my protective style to keep it fresh. I do a lot of crotchet styles. I LOVE IT! I also wash my hair while in its crotchet styles.

My ends dry out really fast and i always had to re moisturize my hair over and over . the dryness also caused my hair to break at times. This video really helped me so much . I started doing loose twist and tucked my ends in and it worked ! there was less breakage and my hair was moisturized longer . THANK YOU GREEN BEAUTY :) LOVE FROM SOUTH AFRICA

This video is great education. I have worn twist outs forever, but it was a low manipulation style, and not a protective style. I need to leave my want of always wearing my hair to placing my hair in protective styles in order to protect my ends which have a lot of splits and breakage.

Protective styles have been my holy grail along with low manipulation however I have also been going through some personal issues and the one thing to suffer has been my hair. In a fit of frustration last week as I was undoing my protective style (which had severely dried out) I started yanking the strands out and knotted clumps came out. All I needed to do was sprite my coconut water on my hair and slow down but frustration caused me to hurt myself. The other suggestion I would offer to this video is switch up your parts. Center, side, zig zag and even just comb through into a loose 2 strand braid with no part can be a life saver. The part about tension is so true. The only part of your hair that is "alive" is the part at the follicle. If you kill that then you will see bald patches and in some instances you won't recover so if your are doing your own hair don't pull and don't let ANY stylist pull too tight.

Love your take on on this much, thank you!! As protective styles are always considered the HG and must do I did as well- with meh results for the longest time. It only got better when I adapted them a lot to my type of hair (fine, thin, too much oil hating, moisture craving, highly shrinking hair). For me that means a high bun with sealed/ carefully tucked or sealed ends and absolutely no edge laying most of the time. They are to my waist now, but thin so I mostly focus on volume (scalp massages and scalp care is mandatory for me. This begins to show, my dentist slowly increases. In general my hair thrives under the less is more treatment. Next goal: greying healthy and in style. I would love your thoughts on tat topic as well. I did henna but so want to embrace my grey now. Thank you in advance, Love and Blessings!

I use low manipulation protective style and refresh every other day. My hair use to be very dry, but since I have been steaming and massaging my scalp with hair cream ( the way my mother took care of my hair) my hair texture is improving..

Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge with us. Be well I believe that I have been protective styling before knowing what it was. This allows me to save a lot of time, keep my hair moisturize longer, keep my hands off my hair and my hair out of the way🙂 My hair is the happiest when left alone. I find that if I am misting, moisturizing here and there during the week, I see more shedding and breakage the next wash day. So I do not touch it Typically, I wash my hair, add moisture, braid or cornrow it and make a loose Bantu knot style bun with the ends avoiding putting tension on the edges. A week later I wash my scalp to remove sweat rinse and re-moisturize my scalp and hair. At the end of the 2nd week I pre-poo, wash, deep conditioned with steam, rinse, style and REPEAT 😀 I keep it stretched, lubricated and moisturized.

Good explanation regarding what is a protective style. I needed these video a few weeks ago! I worn a protective style for 3-4 weeks and finally when I shampooed my hair, it knotted! I had to cut a patch/plug of my hair. The only good thing is that I am transitioning so it probably wasn’t that significant to my new hair journey. If the future, I will remoisturize earlier. Lesson learn!

What I heard is that natural hair must be detangled before the water hits it. Or else, you'll get knots like the one you did.

Protective styles have helped my progress, but so has just... realizing the moisture thing and taking it very seriously. I have a spray bottle with water, aloe juice, a bit of tea tree, just a drop of cinnamon oil, mint and blueberry hair growth mix, and a rosewater + glycerin toner in it. I spray that on my hair and scalp twice daily to keep from drying out, and I don't experience dandruff much at all anymore (unless I forget for a couple days). That and making sure I drink plenty of water have had a great impact on my skin and hair over the past few years. Also I smell like a snacccc and that's fun. :) I felt sympathetic pain for 5:04, woooof. I do all my own protective styles specifically to avoid tension alopecia. No matter how many times I'd tell braiders to do looser braids, they'd always try to pull super tight, and snatch my edges. Nope nope nope. DIY has been way less stressful, and less painful.
