I feel a lot has to do with the alpha male mindset. These men know they are what they are, they know they can physically dominate and in some cases hurt most others.. they realize this and become gentle giants and only/filter aggression into the iron.

I imagine it has to do with the topic of this video as well. Basketball players and (American) football players make a LOT of money. Idk about other sports, but I imagine a lot of them, the fame and the money goes to their heads. Strongmen, on the other hand, are just your average guys who happen to be really strong. They work really hard to get really good at their sport, but it's basically a hobby.

Very valuable information. The sport needs to grow and to get more money in it, but for that to happen the fans need more ways to support the sport. As a fan who can't travel the world to go to shows and don't need a lot of merch, I'm not supporting the sport as much as I could.

Why is it like this in the "fitness/strength" world? Everybody needs and sponsor to do what they supposedly love to do? People that race cars as hobbies is not like this, say a Drag Race team, often there are several people that spits in money for the chassis, some own maybe the engine and trans, and then there is transport, trailers and tow rigs you need, a place to have it when not in use and garage, food and other expenses. If there are any sponsors it usually only a couple tires here and there, some oil, fuel etc. You must use all your vacation time to travel and race, your time after work to maybe wrench on the vehicle to get ready for a race. It could be a very expensive deal, especially if you aim slightly higher than just participating, if you do road racing, then just fuel consumption of the race car is VERY expensive. And there is no prize money there either. This goes for other sports as well, but it seems many in the "fitness" industry is some of the laziest people around. I do find that most Strongmen do not seem lazy though, yet, but the BB and fitness people.. Most strength sports and fitness stuff is very cheap to do compared to a lot or most of other sports where you need "stuff" to compete.. Sure, it depends on the level of commitment, but the lowest levels of almost any kind of racing is way above what an average Strength sport person needs in money to compete.
@TwoBlackMarks
@TwoBlackMarks 5 лет назад
@Anal Creampie So, do your average Strongman eat that much? Eddie Hall was going for the best in the world at that time, balls to the walls everything, is your friend with the EVO the best in the world at what he does? There are different levels in anything. And you could compare whatever you want, Nr.1 in WSM to an average MX5 Autocross participant. Or an backyard average strongman participant to a Competitive NHRA Pro Stock where the engine alone is (atleast was) around 100.000$ But average for average, strongman is not very expensive for most people, but like I said, there is different levels in everything, and of course, some stuff is just more expensive than other stuff. If I suddenly started to eat up £3200 each month, I do not think I would be that much greater in anything. And I certainly could not afford it or manage to eat it anyway. But that is still just half of the value of an Pro Stock engine alone in a year anyway.
@hussainthebane

Racers tend to love their cars. Strongmen and bodybuilders are killing their body for a sport.

Awesome video, great information/advice. I'm pretty new to strongman competed for 1st time few weeks ago in BNSF wales strongest man under80kg and won now qualified for british absolutely addicted already. I've competed in powerlifting for few years which like u said in video i think build a decent strength base for me to start strongman, wouldnt look back now after switching sport really enjoying it. Not many strongman friendly gyms close to me so i ended up making most of my equipment to train with, yoke farmer/frame, loadable block, duckwalk etc. Also invested in few things like atlas stones but saved myself loads of money making the things i could myself. I'd love to get in to using RU-vid more for vlogs of my training only really use fbook and insta at moment for sharing my training videos but find it very hard to speak on camera haha

I was at a novice and inters strongman competition on Sunday watching a few friends, they all work full time to support themselves, some have families too, and have to find time to get to the gym They are not expecting a sponsor to give them a living while training. As mentioned Mariusz Pudzianowski actually earned more from his bodyguard training school and truck company than his prize money from strongman and even MMA fighting.

Ive noticed this in every industry. Every young person thinks they deserve so much from sponsors just for saying their name or wearing a t-shirt. They don't seem to realise they need to see noticeable gains in revenue directly from their sponsorship ands they need to b e a big name to make any real effect

Hafthor was a first division basketball player. If he had made it to "world class" of basketball as he has in Strongman, he'd make a lot more money with much smaller risk to his health. It's very positive talk from Loz when saying that people can use their passion to eventually build a career in strongman, but really the same advice applies to many sports where someone with that passion and effort can make a better living. Just look at prize money for crossfit and see what mass market appeal means, and how could strongman ever be as attractive.

You have to earn notoriety and aggrandize your brand. The way to accomplish that is to work hard; harder than the next man so that you place and then win s few comps. Loz is right unless your placing in the top 3-4regularly at WSM, Arnold Classic, or any Giants Live affiliated comp you won’t be garnering much bank from strongman affiliated sponsors.

Hi... Great info. Do you think WSM Strongman competitions could be divided into body weight classes like Boxing and Bodybuilding etc.. So we could find the strongest 80 Kg or strongest 150Kg guys and girls etc... and generate more overall interest in strongman sports. I bet there are some really strong people out there but, invariably, a monster size human will win all the major events available today.....So, if your less than 135 + Kg...you aint wining anything....which is a shame. In weightlifting body weight is handicapped etc... to even the playing field a little.

I recently joined a gym that has strongman equipment so after my next meet I am planning on devoting a few months to strongman and preparing for a show I'm very excited lifting heavy things is fun and you are right with the way Instagram is it can be difficult to be proud with your own accomplishments sometimes when you see how far ahead some people are, but I think its important to us strength athletes as a community to help build each other up since we all started somewhere.

The sports that pay really well seem to be the ones that are played at school. If schools could pickup strongman as a sport it would increase the money to what it should be. There are a lot of fat kids that spend most of their time playing computer games who are naturally strong but it doesn't translate well to most sports. Prime example would be Martins Licis who said he was a fat kid who spent all his time playing computer games.
