Would Srila Prabhupada approve of Vaishnavi Diksa Gurus? This contested question has been the subject of debate for the GBC, ISKCON leadership, and society for over 20 years.
In 2019 the GBC mandated that vaishnavis can act as diksa gurus, and in 2022 Narayani devi dasi, a senior lady and disciple of Srila Prabhupada, initiated one disciple. By November 2022, mainly due to pressure from ISKCON leaders in India, the GBC once again put a hold on vaishnavis giving diksa.
Kalakantha das (ACBSP) has been at the forefront of the Vaishnavi Diksa guru campaign. He and other advocates argue that allowing vaishnavi diksa gurus, is in line with Srila Prabhupada's mood and mission; and is essential for the Krishna Consciousness movement to be relevant and relatable in the current social climate in the West.
But several questions remain disputed, 'Is vaishnavis giving diksa in harmony with varnashrama?", 'Can women serve as leaders and simultaneously be chaste ?", 'Why did Srila Prabhupada explicitly state in a purport that Dhurva's mother Suniti, could not be his diksa guru, as she was a woman?', 'Can vaishnavi gurus be accepted in conservative societies such as India?" and ultimately 'Will this debate inevitably lead to a schism in ISKCON?"

Thank you for facilitating this conversation. Why has the SAC report not been made public? Since it is so emphatically proves that there is no reason why women can't give diksa? In theory, women are supposed to be offered the highest respect as mothers, but in many places ISKCON, and especially in India, the abuse of women is prolific. So, these people who are promoting traditional values are not even upholding the most basic Vedic values of never abusing women and children, EVER! In varnasrama, there would be a zero tolerance for abusers in any form. The Indian leaders would have more credibility if they stopped enabling abusers and paedophiles.

To your point about Srila Prabhupada not differentiating between men and women: I remember reading in one of the books written about Srila Prabhupada..an early female devotee who was a resident and very close to Prabhupada felt that He was dismissive of her and that Srila Prabhupada often spoke " down" when He spoke about women... This woman Devotee went to Prabhupada and told Him how upset she felt... Prabhupada told her that He did not see her as a wan! He saw her as Vaishnavi...
