The Truth About the Banjo Minnow 

We had Bass imported to South Africa where they thrived and I caught a lot of them. I liked to catch them on a fly when I could, but I bought a Banjo Minnow kit and was amazed at how effective it. was. I caught Bass when nobody else got so much as a sniff. One afternoon I hooked the same fish 4 times. The first 3 times he got off, and the 4th I got him. I know it was the same fish because the water was clear and I could see him going back to his home each time. For me the best feature was the elastic weed guard which allowed me to cast into places where other lures would be lost and where the bigger fish hung out. That was how I was able to out-fish other people by going where they couldn't. A magical lure.

I've been using this lure for many years now...from the original that me and my cousins purchase all the way to the 006 version I have had a few problems, but more so because of my rod not being able to create the action that I would get from a thinner tip. The only other problems I've had is using the wrong size for most fish that were banking. I really like it and if you take your time and let the banjo minnow sink they definitely go for the head as it dives periodically after you whip the tail. Sir you have given the best view and overview of how to use it because many doubted and start speaking right off the top of the head thank you for your RU-vid video.

*The truth about the Banjo minnow* ..... 1. The original was quite a bit better! 2. Most of the kit is stupid and frivolous. 3. All you need is the "minnow", worm hooks and splitshots (and steel leader for pike waters!) I only use the larger ones (light belly/dark top works best...more natural). I rig it like a rubber worm, through the "lip", out the "chin" then stick the business end of the hook into the back of the minnow(just deep enough to keep it in place). A small splitshot at the nose....twitch, twitch, BOOM!!! "Lots" of minnows and eyes can be bought on ebay. I don't even bother with the eyes though.

I like the original banjo minnow better which is harder to find. The screw in cork heads were the best part of the bajo minnow. I think most people knock the bait because they expected it to catch fish when ever they casted it. The action of the banjo minnow is way better than most soft plastic. I love to use Zoom flukes but they dont come close to the action the banjo minnow had. At least the ones i had. I only got to use the newer 006 banjo minnow for a few weeks cuz they weren't mine. I wonder where i can find the original one cuz all i find is the 006 version. I'm planning on buying the 006 kit & try it out respectfully. Before i forget , these are perfect for Striper Fishing. They work awesome.

I use banjo system to fish snook in Brazil. Better than other soft lures as shrimp.

All these comments and no one is gonna mention the banjo frog....

It kills when Bass fishing in ponds and I caught some nice trout at a small lake while camping. Smaller ones (no more than 3 inch) work best and they must appear wounded... in other words, let it sink and give it a small tug every 15 seconds or so to appear as a dying fish. The weedless hooks are awesome!

It does work. most people who hate them are just plainly using it wrong.

I bought this about 20 years ago....had tons of largemouth grab the bait and not let go til it came to the surface...but was never able to set the hook on any....user error no doubt,but i still have some to this day in my tackle box

I've caught a 13.4 on a zoom Water melon black flake. And a 9.3 on a wacky rig with a rattle in one end. That's one the fish in my profile picture

They work better with regular bass hook or gigs them . They like a floating worm

All the ones I show came in one kit. Not sure why your's had fewer. The number if parts to carry is the one disadvantage of this bait. With the minnows, hooks, eyes and rubber bands, it's a lot of little parts to carry with you. But the results are often worth the effort.

Fish eat head first. This is the first drop shot. This rigged drop shot style works amazing

The orignal banjo minnow that came out back when I was in middle school was excellent this is not it and can't find that set no where and that set worked all the time

You got a lot more eyes than I did, all they sent me was like four. Lost two of them already.

With that hool style. The hook up ratio will suck soo bad.

Dude i kill bass on them....the trick is a light action rod and workimg the minnow. And i hate the minnows they provide, i like sluggo

No, not really. I don't find it necessary with all the great swimbaits and weighted swimbait hooks available.
