Idk about the rules for different states/countries, but how are you a master with only 4 years in the trade? In texas, you need 4 years/8000 hours just to get your jiw license, and then a few thousand more hours to even test for your masters. Thats damn quick to get there
@ThePewski
@ThePewski 5 месяцев назад
Let me break it down for you looking to get into the trade. If you're not a self motivated, mechanically inclined, adaptable person, be a plumber. Alot of states make you go through school, some 2 years, some 4. Most of these programs are just a way of the state making money. Being in the field IS your education. This does depend on your lead/teacher. Electrical trade is amazing and can do everything from simple service calls to 23k square foot multimillion homes. BUT!, you gotta want it. You will not succeed, if at all, like you can if you dont put forth the effort to learn. Its a art form, just like all the other trades. Eventually you'll tell the difference between a good tradesmen and a jackass. Do your homework on who you hire on with, learn what tools to buy off the start, what you can buy later. The quicker you learn and get a license the more you make, depending on that company. Man the F up. You have to show up everyday and be productive. Its an investment in life. Dont think of it as getting paid, think of it as becoming a more productive citizen, spouse and role model.
@handledright
@handledright 4 месяца назад
So you don't recommend going to a college to get a diploma in it?
@ThePewski

I would encourage you to read the standards and see what it takes to get a re-interview if you dont get an offer of apprenticeship when work picks up in the spring (for most places anyway). they arent going to contact everyone on the list, only the people at the top that get offers. there will be a timeframe like 2 years, when your name will roll off the list. normally you can apply to re-interview after one year if you do something related to the trade or school like take a math class, take some other related class, or get a job that is relevant like at a parts house, or material handler. good luck and dont give up. many people in my local had to apply more than once before they got in.

Hey, quick question for ya, if ya don't mind? Why would anyone get an AAS or any other type of certificate before getting a job as an electrician, if O.J.T. will get you the same outcome? I understand that some bachelor's degree's are becoming less and less economical, but what about trade schools? Are they still worth the time/expense?
@jamesross160
@jamesross160 24 дня назад
Some jobs require apprentices enrolled in a school/program. Some states may require an accredited apprenticeship to reciprocate your license. On the job training isn't really great about teaching you the code book which you need to pass you jw test. But you are right, in most states you just need 8000 recorded hours and to pass the state test.

So I would say make sure you're good on all aspects of Algebra and be able to answer questions correctly based off what you read, hope this helps

Google "IBEW "your city/town", drive there and ask to talk to an organizer and say that you want to apply for the apprenticeship (some locals have online application, others it's in person), you ll need the highschool diploma and a valid driver's license (also a car is a must), apply as soon as you can, you ll be scheduled to take an aptitude test that includes basic algebra and English reading and comprehension (since you re fresh out of highschool I assume it won't be much trouble to do well in it), you ll need to get an average of 4 out of 9 possible score, then if you pass you ll go to the interview phase, you ll be interviewef by a panel of 6 to 8 people (half of them are IBEW leadership and the other half is the contractors), if you convince them that you re serious and this is what you really want, you ll be accepted. Also you can RU-vid "Mad Electrician, how to apply for the apprenticeship" he is the best resource on the matter, also shares tips on every step.

About 3 years ago i bought some work pants online and didnt realize i bought "slim fit". I didnt wear them for about a year. One day i didnt have my laundry done and threw them on for work. Despite what you may think about not being able to move, these pants are actually the easiest for me to work in. They have a little stretch to them and now i wear them primarily. These are not skin tight but very little extra material. I get some crap here and there but idc.

Do not go through traditional trade schools like Apex or Berk Trades, they're no good. I don't advise the union apprenticeship either, because they make you take a grueling 4-hour class each week, and you can't get college credit for it. On top of that, they make you take a college degree in labor studies, which is useless. If you want to be an electrician, start by working for one as a helper, and take classes towards a 2-year electrical degree. If you can't handle a degree in electric studies, you won't pass the courses for the union apprenticeship.

Alright, I joined the apprenticeship in Ibew 11 Los Angeles in 2011. They taught us nothing practical. They do whatever they can to withhold your pay raises. They have people who are incompetent only because they’re woke people. You’ll work day and night during the apprenticeship, once you get to the 5th year they will lay you off and hire two fresh year apprentices and keep them working. If you don’t smoke, ride dirt bikes, snort cocaine you won’t fit in. It’s terrible as the electrical trade should be for the upper echelon of craftsmen not cons , send the cons to iron work. After the apprenticeship you’re on your own, Also, if you’re not WYT, you’ll be a hall rat. Seriously.
